Chapter 4 - The Knife Comes

After buying the knives, Dui reunited with Bilbo, and then they returned to Bag End together.

On the way, Bilbo looked at the two bone-chopping knives Dui bought and couldn't help but ask curiously, "Du Yier, why did you buy two bone-chopping knives? Don't we already have some at home?"

Dui held the two bone-chopping knives, striking a chopping stance, "These aren't bone-chopping knives; these are my weapons! In the future, I'll use them to defend against enemies!"

Bilbo opened his mouth, momentarily unable to connect him with the image of a Wizard.

"As long as you like it."

Seeing Bilbo's gaze, Dui's mouth curved slightly.

The two bone-chopping knives in his hands shot out with a whoosh, directly embedding themselves into a roadside oak tree, half of their blades sinking into the trunk.

Bilbo was instantly dumbfounded.

"Sword… Ah, no, knives, come!"

The knives pulled out from the tree trunk and instantly flew back into his hands.

Bilbo was utterly astonished.

After showing off, Dui simply brushed his sleeves and walked away, looking like a master.

But in his heart, he silently wiped away a bead of sweat.

The knives were stuck too deep; he had to use all his strength to pull them out, almost making him lose face.

That was close!

After returning to Bag End, Dui's new round of training began.

He started to focus on controlling the two bone-chopping knives, trying to make them move as if they were extensions of his arms.

Each of the two bone-chopping knives weighed two catties, which was precisely within the limit of Dui's magical control.

To achieve finer control, he simply controlled the bone-chopping knives to chop wood.

Although the process was difficult, and at first he could only maintain it for a short while, as he persisted longer, Dui found it easier to control the bone-chopping knives, and their speed became swifter.

The result was that the firewood for Bag End's winter was completed by Dui much earlier, with some even left over.

Bilbo was beaming with joy about this.

After all, while Hobbits loved life, they weren't averse to laziness, and stockpiling firewood before winter was always a daunting task.

Now that it was completed early, he was naturally very happy.

However, looking at the two bone-chopping knives around Dui, which were almost invisible and only produced whooshing sounds as they cut through the air, Bilbo was both amazed and worried.

He always worried that Dui might lose control and get hurt by those knives.

After all, it looked incredibly dangerous!

The two flying knives danced agilely around Dui for half an hour before reluctantly flying back into the sheaths hanging at Dui's waist.

By now, Dui's control over the flying knives had reached the point of being completely at will; within a five-meter radius of Dui, the flying knives could arrive in an instant.

This caused a qualitative change in Dui's offensive power, giving him a certain degree of self-preservation.

Moreover, with continuous control and practice, Dui had successfully managed to float a hundred-pound object and maintain it for a period of time.

For this, Bilbo was the first to experience the thrill of flight, being floated in the air by Dui like a kite.

The surrounding Hobbit neighbors also witnessed Bilbo's feat of flying over the Hobbiton hills, and for a time, Bilbo became a prominent figure in Hobbiton.

Of course, Dui, the instigator, also received attention.

However, due to his identity as a Wizard, no one dared to approach Dui.

Nevertheless, the title of Du Yier the Wizard began to spread from Hobbiton throughout the entire Shire region.

Dui had been staying in Bag End for two months.

One day, Dui suddenly bid farewell to Bilbo.

"Bilbo, thank you so much for hosting me for so long; I'm afraid I need to bid you farewell."

Bilbo was somewhat caught off guard.

"Du Yier, have I been remiss in any way? That you would leave so suddenly?"

Seeing the Hobbit become nervous, Dui quickly bent down and patted his shoulder to comfort him.

"Don't worry, my friend, you've done well enough! This isn't your fault."

"I'm just planning to go and see other places, after all, besides Hobbiton, I haven't been anywhere else yet!"

He winked at his friend with a smile.

"Of course, when I get tired of walking, I might come and stay with you for a few days. You won't be unwelcome then, will you?"

Bilbo relaxed upon hearing this and immediately shook his head rapidly.

"Of course not, you are always welcome here, Du Yier."

But he still asked with some concern, "Du Yier, where are you planning to go?"

Dui shook his head, "I don't have a plan yet; I intend to see as I go, but for now, I don't plan to go too far, so I'll probably travel around within the Shire."

The Shire is neither big nor small; besides the small town of Hobbiton, there are many other towns where Hobbits reside.

He planned to see if he could sign in there.

"Oh, by the way, Bilbo, you must be very familiar with the Shire. Do you have any towns to recommend?"

Hearing that Dui was traveling within the Shire, Bilbo was even more relieved.

He quickly went to the study, rummaged around, and found a map of the Shire, which he laid out on the table.

"Du Yier, since you're traveling within the Shire, the first place I recommend you go is Great Hole Town; it's the capital of the Shire and definitely a must-visit."

Bilbo pointed to a marked location on the map, west of Hobbiton.

According to Bilbo's explanation, the entire Shire was divided into four districts: East, West, South, and North. Hobbiton was located in the center of the Shire, belonging to the Westfarthing.

Also in the Westfarthing was the Shire's capital, Great Hole Town.

Great Hole Town was where the Shire's Mayor's office was located, and it was also the commercial and trade center of the Shire region, with the main East-West Road passing through it, making transportation convenient.

"Alright, I'll go to Great Hole Town first!"

Dui made his decision.

Though reluctant, Bilbo still saw Dui off.

And before he left, he prepared a large bag of food for Dui, as well as a bulging pouch of silver coins.

Enough for his needs for the next period of time.

Although Dui wanted to refuse, he was penniless at the moment, so he accepted Bilbo's kindness.

He just silently noted this friendship in his heart.

Rejecting Bilbo's idea of seeing him off to the village, Dui applied a floating spell to his package, then, carrying the weightless package, he set off on his journey alone.

From Bag End to the town, Dui did not stop, following the East-West Road that passed through there, heading west.

The road was flat, with beautiful pastoral scenery along the way, and occasionally Hobbit merchants or travelers passed by.

They were also very curious about Dui, who was clearly a human outsider.

Dui's pace was not slow, but it still took him a full day to finally arrive at Great Hole Town before nightfall.

The architectural style of Great Hole Town differed from Hobbiton; here, the buildings were taller and larger than in Hobbiton, mostly houses built of wood, brick, and stone, and it resembled a city more.

As he entered the city, all the Hobbits around focused their gaze on this tall human.

One of the Hobbits with a mustache came forward, a blue feather stuck in his hat.

"Outsider, where do you come from? What business do you have in our Great Hole Town?"
