Chapter 42 - THE KILLER SHE CRIED FOR

Hashim stood there, lost and broken. His mind was in turmoil, his heart weighed down with guilt and confusion. Nothing made sense to him anymore—neither his choices, nor his emotions. With hesitant steps, he made his way back to Fatima. She was the only one who had remained in his thoughts despite everything, the only one he felt he could turn to in this moment of despair.

Standing in front of her, his voice trembled with raw honesty. "I… I'm going away, Fatima," he said, his eyes searching hers for mercy, for peace. "I don't understand anything anymore. My mind—my heart—it's all chaos."

He took a deep breath, his voice cracking as he spoke the words he had buried deep for so long. "I confess… every sin I've committed. Every crime, every pain I caused—I admit it all. I won't ask you to forgive me. I deserve punishment. Give me whatever punishment you think I deserve... but please, don't turn me away from your heart. Don't push me away. Don't take yourself away from me…"

Abdul Rehman's Point of View

Abdul Rehman had been searching for her. Something about the silence of the palace unsettled him. He entered the corridors with urgency, his footsteps echoing against the cold marble floors.

And then he saw it.

From the edge of the hallway, he spotted them—Hashim standing close to Fatima. For a moment, he froze. His heart pounded in panic. What is he doing here? Anger surged through him like fire. Without a second thought, Abdul Rehman rushed toward them, convinced that Hashim was there to harm her. His hands clenched into fists, and before words could be exchanged, he charged at him.

"Stay away from her!" he shouted, pushing Hashim with force.

A scuffle broke out—Abdul Rehman throwing punch after punch—but strangely, Hashim didn't raise a hand in defense. He didn't strike back. He just stood there… looking at Fatima.

His eyes—tired, tearful, and full of regret—were fixed on her and only her. It was as if Abdul Rehman didn't exist. It was as if nothing else mattered anymore. Fatima was no longer just a person to him. She had become his world. The only light left in his darkness.

Abdul Rehman kept hitting him, furious, confused, betrayed. But Hashim took it all silently, like someone who had given up on everything except that one last hope—Fatima.

Fatima's Cry

Fatima couldn't bear it anymore.

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she threw herself between them and grabbed her brother's Friend arm. Brother! Please… stop!"

Her voice cracked as she sobbed. "Don't hurt him… please. I… I like him."

The words escaped her lips before she could stop them. And once spoken, they couldn't be taken back.

Hashim's eyes widened—not in fear, but in awe. He stared at her, and for the first time in his broken life, he smiled… a soft, trembling smile, like a man who had just been pulled back from the edge of death.

Abdul Rehman froze. "What did you just say?" he asked, his voice low and confused.

Fatima's eyes were red with tears, her breath shaking. She couldn't meet his gaze.

"You… you like him?" he asked again, as if trying to make sense of the impossible. "A killer? A murderer? Qasim's sister… likes a man who has blood on his hands?"

She couldn't answer.

She didn't have to.

Fatima's Thoughts

Her heart was in chaos. Why am I doing this? she wondered. Why am I standing between them? Why… am I protecting him?

She looked at Hashim—at the wounds on his face, the brokenness in his eyes, and the strange peace on his lips when she spoke those words. She knew something had changed in her.

Have I… truly fallen for him?

The man who once brought fear into people's lives… now seemed like the most fragile soul standing before her. And she couldn't bear to see him hurt—not anymore.

Abdul Rehman's Warning

Abdul Rehman took a step back, his fists still clenched.

"I'm leaving him… for now," he said coldly. "But only because of you."

He pointed a finger at Hashim. "Next time I see you, there won't be a second chance. You better disappear before someone else sees you."

With that, he stormed off down the hall, his heart torn between his love for his sister and his hatred for the man she now protected.

Hashim's Laughter

The moment Abdul Rehman was gone, Hashim—bruised, bleeding, and emotionally shattered—let out a laugh.

It wasn't mocking. It wasn't loud. It was… a laugh of disbelief, of quiet gratitude. A laugh of someone who had just heard the most beautiful words of his life.

"She… said she likes me," he whispered to himself, almost like a prayer.

Fatima's eyes were still wet as she knelt beside him. "Get up now," she said, her voice low. "Please… go. Leave before someone else sees you here."

Hashim stood slowly, nodding. But before leaving, he turned to her one last time.

"Even if I die tomorrow… tonight, I'll sleep knowing someone like you existed for me."

Then, like a shadow in the night, he disappeared into the darkness—leaving behind silence, pain, and perhaps… the beginning of something neither of them fully understood.

Fatima's Inner Thoughts – After He Left

What's happening to me?

He was supposed to be my enemy… a man who brought nothing but pain into our lives. And yet, when I saw him fall to his knees, when I looked into his eyes full of regret—and something else… something softer—I couldn't hate him.

I stood between him and my brother. Why?

He entered my home uninvited, carrying the weight of every wrong he had done. But in that moment, all I saw was a broken soul—longing for someone to believe in him. And somehow, I did.

When I said, "I like him," it wasn't planned. The words came from somewhere deeper than thought. And when he smiled… that quiet, trembling smile… it felt like the world paused to let him breathe one last time.

I don't fully understand this feeling, but I know something inside me changed.

After he left, it felt like something inside me cracked… and something new began to grow. Maybe it's a bond. Maybe it's love—fragile, confusing, unexpected.

Even if he never returns… I know he'll live in a part of my heart. Because sometimes, love finds you in the most impossible places… with someone who was never supposed to deserve it.

🌙 Question for Readers:

Do you think Fatima is making a mistake by trusting Hashim, or is her heart seeing something the world can't?

Can someone with a dark past truly be redeemed through love?

What would you have done in Fatima's place—stepped back or stood between them?

Do you believe Hashim's feelings are real, or is it just guilt disguised as love?

Is it possible to fall for someone who once hurt the people you care about?
