Fang Yuan stared at the baby for a long moment before the corners of his mouth started twitching between both disbelief and amusement.
Then, with a flick of his wrist, the lingering flames scattered into harmless wisps of smoke.
He exhaled lightly and turned toward the trembling woman nearby.
"Aunt Yueyao," he said, his tone calm and warm, "I trust you've been well?"
Fang Yueyao, just a step away from her child, forced a laugh that trembled at the edges.
"I–I've been well, Clan Head… well, at least until just now," she said, her voice tight as she tried to compose herself.
Inside, however, her mind was in chaos.
What should I do? Even the Clan Head came personally… this is serious! Will he take my child away? I'm sure he will.... The whole area exploded after all... What to do.. what should I do?
Her eyes darted to her baby, heart twisting in panic, only to see the little one giggling up at her, eyes bright and innocent.
