"You know Beckett's looking for you."
Rae clicks his tongue over the line. "He'll just have to look forever. I can't help him anymore." Something in his voice sounds weird, an underlying tightness that's hard to catalog over the phone.
Noel adjusts the treadmill to a leisurely pace, already out of breath from just a few minutes of brisk walking. "You've heard, right?"
"How could I not? Halo employees only talk about three things, and two of those are their precious S-class Angels."
"What's the third?"
"Overtime." Rae blows out an exasperated breath. "I don't know how Beckett would even remember my guiding. He was practically unconscious."
"Maybe the difference really is that big."
"No way," Rae insists. "I refuse to believe we're that compatible."
"But aren't you compatible with everyone?" Noel prods, half smiling.
"Yeah, but it can't be that good. If Beckett is going around sleeping with all of Halo's guides, it probably has nothing to do with me."
