Bradley Orwell's POV
The knock on my apartment door comes at midnight. Three sharp raps, followed by silence.
I set down the cultivation manual Aiden Knight gave me and listen carefully. The hallway outside remains quiet, but something feels wrong. In the weeks since I pledged my loyalty to Master Knight, I've learned to trust these instincts.
"Bradley." The voice through the door is familiar. Wu Cheng, one of my former family's enforcers. "Open up. We need to talk."
My blood runs cold. The Orwell family expelled me after I knelt before Aiden Knight, declaring me a disgrace and a traitor. They haven't spoken to me since. Their sudden appearance can only mean trouble.
"It's late, Wu Cheng. Whatever business you have can wait until morning."
"No, it can't." Another voice joins the first. Wu Yong, Wu Cheng's partner. Together, they form one of the family's most effective interrogation teams. "Open the door, or we'll open it for you."
