Aiden Knight's POV
The familiar weight of exhaustion settles on my shoulders as I walk through the dimly lit streets toward my apartment. The encounter with Master Hu has left me drained, not physically, but emotionally. Using those techniques always takes something out of me, even when applied to scum who deserved every second of pain.
My footsteps echo off the empty sidewalk. Most honest people are home by now, safe behind locked doors with their families. The thought of Chloe waiting for me brings a small measure of comfort. She's probably worried about where I've been.
The soft purr of an expensive engine cuts through the night silence. I glance over as a sleek black Mercedes pulls alongside me, matching my walking pace. The tinted windows make it impossible to see who's inside.
I ignore it and keep walking.
The car continues following me for another block before finally stopping. A door slams shut behind me, followed by the sharp click of high heels on pavement.
