Aiden Knight's POV
The weight of everyone's stares presses down on me like a physical force. Ruby Mills stands there with her arms crossed, that smug smile spreading across her face like poison. She thinks she's caught me in some elaborate lie.
"Well?" she demands, tapping her manicured nails against her designer purse. "Where's this proof you promised us?"
I glance at my phone screen. Marcus Wells' name glows ominously, but I can't answer it. Not here. Not with all these people watching.
I decline the call and slip the phone back into my pocket.
"Having second thoughts?" Ryan asks with a sneer. "Maybe that mysterious call was your accomplice telling you the jig is up?"
Chloe's grip on my arm tightens. I can feel her uncertainty radiating through her touch. She wants to believe in me, but Ruby's doubts are infectious.
