Chapter 4 - Prologue

[Welcome to the Eden System]

I looked at the golden screen in front of me, and locked the door behind. This is a monumental development. A system, a literal, real, golden finger that could define me in the most overpowered way possible.

In all webnovels I've read, any MC that has a system becomes obscenely powerful – and I use that word purposely.

There's no room for weakness if you have a system.

However.

There's a chance this is one of those systems. The sabotaging, controlling, and intrusive ones. The type that forces the MC to do things in the threat of unproportionate punishment for failure.

I hate those type of stories. Because the mc is nothing but a puppet at that point, especially if the system – or the being that created – has an agenda.

Hopefully this is not one of those…

"What do you do?" I asked.

[My sole function is to bring exponential growth within the host. Through skill learning and refinement. Everything under the sun could be learned, and be learned fast. So long as the host has the conviction to carry out what he set out to do.

Here are the following benefits of the Eden System.

The Fool Trait – to facilitate immense potential, this trait turns the host into a sponge that absorbs everything at a rapid rate. A blank canvas for the painter to sketch and paint. However, being a blank slate also comes with a downside. Specializing in particular is much harder, as this trait favours a jack of all trade style. It is still possible,

Tangible Progression – you could see your own progression through status increase and skill rank level up. While the Eden system doesn't provide a stat allocation mechanic, the architect saw it fit for the host to see their progress.

Quest – through interaction with the world, many threads of interest form into quest for the host partake in. it could come in any form. Small or Big. Humble or Grand. Monumental or insignificant. Through this mechanic the host could gain rewards of items and skills, the quality are proportional with the difficulty of the quest. The same goes for punishment, as it is scaled with the danger a quest withhold.]

"That is a lot to process," I muttered, my hand under my chin as I read.

From first impression, the system is thankfully not one of those enslavements disguised as a cheat, as this seems more focused on facilitating my growth – like an RPG.

The Fool trait is overpowered, just for its promised properties. I could basically learn everything under the heavens if I set my eyes on it – so the system implies. There's a status window, though no stat point mechanic.

A shame.

"System, show my stat."

The golden screen shifts to a more broader square.

[

Name: Roland Silver

Trait: The Fool

Stats:

Str - E

Const - E

Ma - E

Dex - E

]

"It's low…"

"Like really low," I scratch my head, "The Silver blood is supposed to be gifted genetically, what the fuck happen to that?"

[Debuff Detected!]

My eyebrow raised.

[

Drunkard: Due to years of drinking and forsaking personal health, the host constitution and health has been degraded because of the amount alcohol consumed.

]

[

Decreased Strength

Decreased Constitution

More prone to drowsiness and vertigo.

More prone to nausea

More prone to collapse

]

"Damn it!" I bite my fingernail.

Roland's past action came back to haunt me once more. That foolish idiot really let himself go after that public humiliation, drowning his embarrassment and shame with alcohol and whores.

Sigh.

I rub my temples.

"Is this a permanent debuff?"

[No.]

I release a breath of relief.

[The host could cleanse the debuff by not doing the things that caused it, and being more healthy. Meaning the host will need to eat healthy and train to overcome the debuff.]

[The debuff is merely a baseline stat downgrade. It will not affect the host ability to learn new skills – or any of the system's operations – while still valid.]

"That's good," I said, smiling at the golden screen.

Basically led a healthy life. Eh, already planning to anyway.

You cannot survive in this world that has monsters, demons, hostile races, and villains with a weak body and no damn training. I cannot afford to stay weak, especially because I'm being exiled out of the safety of Silver's estate.

This sucks.

But necessary.

[First Quest Formed!]

[Cleanse the Debuff!

Requirements:

Remove the Debuff: Drunkard by eating healthy and training!

Rewards:

Cleansed Stat

Poison Immunity Passive(C)

]

"First quest? Already?"

Well, I guess that much is expected.

I was on the courtyard, on the table beside the flower bed, contemplating my plans before my father exiles me.

At this point of the story there shouldn't be any notable threats. No demons to worry about, like Monolith and Obelisk, the first demons introduced in the second ark of Incursion. No rogue bands of Dark Elves trying to free their kind from an auction by rigging an entire city block with volatile condensed Aether Crystals. And no attempts of the organization called "Ars Nova" trying to resurrect an entire horde of demonic dukes.

And also no undead, for the winter is far ahead in the future, and the "Dead Apostles" laid dormant inside the earth.

The only threat I need to worry about right now is my exile, for I do not know where I would go once I'm out. And Ahab, the protagonist. Remember, that dude thinks of me as the "Evil Aristocrat" his hunting, as my reputation proceeds me – Ahab presence is all but guaranteed.

Thankfully, the child blessed by the "tree of life" is nowhere near his unstoppable future self. The Ahab that forcibly closed an infernal gate, endured what was supposed to be an existence erasure chamber, and the Ahab that gained the moniker of the Slayer.

The progression of Ahab is outright nightmarish, and it all starts when that boy found the Library of Alexandria. A ruin of a previous civilization. Whose knowledge of the arcane and martial arts suppressed all the modern world has.

This is where Ahab found the manuscript called "The Eightfold Path." A martial technique that grants immense adaptability and prowess.

He found the ruin in an accident on his way to the land governed by the Silver family, named "Valor" to kill Roland. This is where the first conflict happens in the story.

But, I'm more focused on the Library of Alexandria which is hidden beneath the grooves and soil of Valor. Valor is a massive place, a land of farmlands and trading, this is where the modern revenue of my family came from.

My plan is to find the library and try to get [The Eightfold Path] first, because it's too overpowered to pass on to. Ahab be damned. He's already blessed by the "tree of life" anyways, he doesn't need to become a fucking buddha – that's overkill! And there's a shitton amount of hidden manuals and scrolls in the library anyways, Ahab could pick one himself – just not the [Folded Golden Path.]

It's decided then.

I will find Alexandria and steal the manual of immense strength.

Blessed by the heavens be damned in the process.

The sound of footsteps broke my silence.

"Young Master," A familiar voice echoed once more, "The lord has called for your presence again."

The same maid as before.

"..." I mentally prepared myself, " Alright, I'll be there."

The girl nodded and went away swiftly.

I watched her figure enter the estate, possibly going towards Father's chamber.

I've already decided to go through with the ultimatum.

As I was getting ready, a sudden thought came to mind .

"How did father know when to call me?"

He said for me to come once I decided…

Must be a coincidence.
