Chapter 11 - CHAPTER 11: THE FIRST INHERITANCE

Mortal Realm – Northern Forest

The deeper Kael walked, the quieter the world became.

It wasn't a normal silence—not simply the absence of sound. It was a different kind of quiet altogether: the kind found inside ancient temples abandoned for centuries; the kind found beneath deep oceans where sunlight had never reached; the kind that felt terrifyingly alive.

Moonlight filtered through the towering canopy overhead, spilling silver beams across roots thicker than village houses. Strange flowers bloomed between the shadows—blossoms Kael had never seen before, their petals resembling fragments of starlight. Each one released a faint, ethereal glow that lingered long after the wind had passed.

The forest smelled older here. Not like pine or damp earth, but like rain trapped inside ancient stone for thousands of years.

Kael's notebook remained tucked securely beneath his arm, even here. Especially here. The familiar habit brought him comfort.

"If I survive this, I'll need better paper," he murmured to himself, before pausing with a dry smile. "I'm walking toward an ancient structure capable of frightening gods... and my primary concern is notebook quality. That seems deeply unhealthy."

From somewhere above, an owl hooted. The timing felt suspiciously judgmental. Kael narrowed his eyes, and the owl quietly flew away.

Several minutes later, the forest began to change.

The trees transformed into silver—not painted, not illuminated, but truly silver. Their bark shimmered softly beneath the moonlight, and ancient symbols occasionally rippled across their trunks before fading away, as though reality itself was struggling to remember a forgotten language.

The air grew heavier, not oppressive, but expectant, as if the entire forest knew where he was heading, waiting for him as it had for centuries—perhaps longer.

A faint tremor rolled through the ground. Leaves fell from the branches, though they didn't fall downward; instead, they floated upward, drifting briefly toward the sky before settling again.

Kael stopped walking, his eyes following a single leaf. "Gravity just lost an argument."

The observation should have alarmed him. Instead, curiosity surged through his veins, frightening him slightly. Mother would say that's not a healthy reaction. She would be right.

Far behind him, hidden among the shadows, several mana beasts watched—creatures that normally hunted anything entering their territory. Tonight, not a single one approached. A massive Shadowfang Wolf lowered its head, its golden eyes following Kael's retreating figure before stepping aside to allow him passage.

It wasn't fear that stayed their claws; it was recognition and instinct. The same instinct caused every living thing in the forest to retreat. Something ancient was awakening, and the forest knew better than to interfere.

Heavania Realm

The Hall of Origin had never been this crowded.

All Fourteen Gods watched the divine projection in absolute silence. No one spoke—not even Mordrak, which alone was deeply unsettling.

The image displayed Kael's journey through the silver forest, tracking every step, every breath, and every reaction.

Valtor adjusted his glasses. "The forest itself acknowledges him."

"Obviously," Nyxara folded her arms. "The more concerning question is why."

No answer came, because nobody knew. Not even the gods. The Star Vault predated every known civilization—possibly even the current divine era itself. That single fact bothered them to their core.

Malgor leaned against his throne, a faint grin breaking across his face. "I've always disliked mysteries."

"You enjoy creating them," Serapha retorted instantly.

Malgor laughed. "Exactly." Even Aurelion sighed.

Suddenly, the projection flickered. Silver static crossed its surface, and the gods immediately stiffened. The Star Vault was interfering again. A structure capable of disrupting divine observation should not exist, yet here it was.

Valtor quietly frowned. "Something beyond our authority..." The thought unsettled him more than he cared to admit.

Mortal Realm – Star Vault

Kael finally reached the clearing and stopped—not because he wanted to, but because his body momentarily forgot how to move.

The descriptions in books, the stories whispered by villagers, the divine projections unseen by mortals—none of them came close. None.

The Star Vault towered hundreds of meters into the sky. Its silver surface reflected stars that weren't even present above Nethania; entire constellations moved across its metallic body, depicting unknown worlds, unknown skies, and unknown realities. Countless runes covered every inch of the massive doorway—millions, perhaps billions—each glowing softly like distant galaxies.

The sight stole his breath. A child standing before something infinitely older than history itself—the contrast should have felt ridiculous. Instead, it felt entirely correct, like a missing piece finally finding its place.

The silver orb that had guided him dissolved, returning to the Vault as if coming home.

The runes brightened, slowly at first, and then faster. More symbols awakened, erupting across the structure like galaxies being born. Silver light flooded the clearing, the ground vibrated, ancient trees bent away, and the air hummed with raw power.

And then—an eye opened.

Massive. Silver. Timeless.

It formed from countless runes, watching him, studying him, judging him.

Kael swallowed hard. For the first time tonight, true fear gripped him—not blind panic, but the healthy, respectful terror one feels standing before a storm capable of swallowing mountains.

The eye stared. Silence stretched.

Then, reality spoke.

"IDENTIFY."

The voice echoed everywhere—in the sky, in the ground, and deep inside his bones.

Kael inhaled slowly, steadying his voice. "My name is Kael Alteria."

The eye remained motionless. Several seconds passed.

Then—

"INCORRECT."

BOOOOOOOOM!

The clearing shook violently. Birds scattered in terror from distant treetops, and silver lightning raced across the sky. Kael stumbled backward, his heart hammering against his ribs.

The eye continued staring, unmoved and unimpressed.

"IDENTIFY."

This time, the command felt heavier, more direct—as though it wasn't asking for a name at all, but for absolute truth.

Kael's mind accelerated, processing questions, possibilities, variables. The answer wasn't "Kael"—the Vault already knew that. Then what did it want? Identity. Not designation, not title, but true identity.

His thoughts raced until a memory surfaced: a message, ancient words spoken during his birth that nobody should have known. Yet somehow, he did. The memory felt distant and dreamlike, yet overwhelmingly real.

Walk your own path.

The realization struck him. The Vault wasn't asking what people called him. It was asking who he truly was.

Kael slowly lifted his head. The birthmark beneath his left eye tingled as heat spread across his skin. Something deep within his soul stirred, sleeping no longer, finally awakening.

He opened his mouth and spoke.

"My name..."

The world held its breath.

"...is Neko Kael Alteria."

Silence. Complete, absolute silence.

Then—the eye closed. Not in rejection, but in profound acknowledgment.

Every rune across the Vault ignited simultaneously. Silver light erupted into the heavens, stars vanished, clouds scattered, and reality trembled.

Heavania Realm

Every god stood, every trace of composure vanishing. Shock flooded the Hall as the projection shook violently. Runes flooded the display, ancient symbols appearing faster than divine minds could translate.

Valtor froze. For the first time in thousands of years, the God of Wisdom looked genuinely confused.

Aurelion narrowed his eyes. "What just happened?"

Nobody answered, because nobody knew.

Then, words appeared across the projection—ancient, silver, and absolute:

TRUE NAME VERIFIED HEIR CONFIRMED FIRST INHERITANCE AUTHORIZED

The Hall fell silent. Even Mordrak stopped smiling.

Then another message appeared, one that caused even divine beings to feel a cold spike of unease:

WARNING ACCESS GRANTED BEYOND DIVINE AUTHORITY

The atmosphere instantly changed. No one spoke, because every single god understood exactly what those words meant: something existed beyond them, beyond their authority, and beyond their understanding.

And it had just opened its doors.

Unknown Space

The endless darkness rippled. Whispers echoed through impossible dimensions.

The First Figure smiled—a rare, dangerous, and genuine smile. "The gate recognizes him."

The Second Figure observed Nethania. "And the gods?"

The First Figure chuckled softly, the sound distorting reality around them. "They've finally realized they're not at the top of the mountain."

A pause followed. "Do you pity them?"

"No," the smile widened, filled with the weight of ages. "I envy them."

The Second Figure raised an eyebrow. "Why?"

The answer came quietly. "Because they are about to witness history."

Mortal Realm – Star Vault

Kael watched as the enormous doors began to move.

At first, the sound was barely audible, but then it grew into a deafening roar: ancient stone grinding against ancient stone, a sound that hadn't echoed across Nethania for ten thousand years.

Silver mist poured from the opening, and within it, actual stars drifted. Tiny galaxies floated inside the rolling fog—impossible, beautiful, and terrifying.

The gap widened slowly and patiently, like eternity opening its eyes.

Kael stared, his heart pounding. Every instinct told him to run; every question he had ever asked told him to stay. Curiosity won, as it always did.

"One day, this is going to get me killed," he muttered. The thought felt entirely reasonable.

The doors finally came to a halt. A vast silver corridor stretched beyond them—endless, ancient, and lined with pillars covered in moving constellations. At its center stood a single pedestal, and atop that pedestal rested... a book.

Nothing more. No weapon, no treasure, no crown. Just a book.

Kael blinked, then blinked again. After everything... a book.

A small, disbelieving laugh escaped him. The universe certainly had a sense of humor after all.

Then, a new message materialized before him in silver light:

WELCOME, HEIR. FIRST INHERITANCE: THE FOUNDATION OF KNOWLEDGE

Kael's eyes widened.

The book slowly opened, its pages turning by themselves. Ancient symbols illuminated the corridor, the air trembled, and somewhere deep inside his soul, something answered.

The First Inheritance had begun.
