Chapter 89 - Stupid.

Kane ascended from the dungeon at a leisurely pace, pondering why he had gotten so lucky — or, on the contrary, was it bad luck? But how could it be bad luck, if it played into his hands, no matter how it looked from the outside?

«Maybe the world is simply on my side?»

But remembering everything that had happened to Kopii, it could be called one word — horror. Betrayal, slavery, rape. But it was horrible only for Kopii, not for me. For me, these events had only been beneficial. After the last event, I had even gained power over the body.

«Maybe the world is on my side?» — Kane wondered, already leaving the dungeon. As always, the noisy first floor of the Tower of Babel met him.

«Nothing new,» — he thought, heading for the tower exit. But out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a rather rare scene. My gaze focused on a goddess, who was sobbing, talking to someone.

Kopii had seen only a few times in his whole life an adventurer, when gods became too attached to their familia or to individual members of their familias. He had even heard that some gods or goddesses could fall in love with their own "child" — that is what some gods call their familia members.

It also happened the other way around, when familia members fell in love with their god or goddess. Kopii saw this picture every day.

Deciding that enough time had been wasted, he resumed his path to the exit. But he stopped abruptly before the exit. Looking back, his gaze again fell on that goddess, who was slowly but surely calming down.

«Asking about a boy?» — he wondered. — «Maybe he was from her familia? If so, what face will she make when she learns he is dead? Will it twist into a grimace of horror or despair? Or will she refuse to believe it's true?» – Kane became very interested in what would happen next.

Would he be lucky or not? But first, he had to choose which sword to give her. I had two — so which first? I did not know for sure. The second would be better. Maybe it would be neither this one nor that one. But to hell with it.

He closed the distance between him and the goddess, and she finally noticed me. Her red-from-tears eyes looked at me with a questioning gaze.

I held back my smile with all my might — such a face of a goddess brought me indescribable joy — but I managed to restrain myself and assume a grimace of sorrow and sadness. I held out two swords to her.

Lowering her gaze to the swords, her eyes widened in horror. She snatched these two swords from my hands.

— AAAA!!! IT'S NOT TRUE!!! NOT TRUE!!!

Her screams were unpleasant to me, but I did not show it on my face.

— Why?! — she said, more muffled, not taking her gaze off the swords. She was shaking all over, unable to hold back her tears.

— Why…

While she was distracted, I simply ran away, because I did not need problems — I had already attracted too much attention. With every second, watching her and controlling my smile became harder and harder, so I even covered it with my hand. And when I left the tower, I no longer held back. A joyful smile was on my face.

Not understanding why, but these scenes brought such pleasure that I wanted to go back and tell her that I had killed them, torn them into little pieces. Of course, one thing confused me: she recognized the two swords.

So, they had been in the same party? Well, to hell with them.

And in a good mood, he went home. But then he instantly remembered and headed to the guild to exchange the magic stones. He had almost forgotten about it. It was only the beginning of his fun.

Quickly exchanging the magic stones for valis, I already wanted to leave, but I was stopped.

— Hello, Mister Kopii.

– Huh?

My gaze fell on a guild employee. He remembered her, but because of too little interaction with her, I did not even remember her name. So I was a little at a loss, but, quickly pulling myself together, cleared my throat and spoke:

— Hello…

— Are you alright?

This question threw me off a little, and I involuntarily tensed at her words.

— Excuse me?

— Are your eyes black?

«Black?»

Undoubtedly, my hand reached for my eyes, but stopped halfway. How could I have forgotten to put on the glasses? I had taken them off when I descended into the dungeon, out of fear of breaking them in the heat of battle. But I had already forgiven myself for possibly making a mistake, so I came up with a perfect excuse for it.

Smiling, I spoke with all the sincerity in my voice, so that I would definitely be believed.

— Ah, it's nothing terrible, nothing at all. It only appeared recently, and I asked my god, and he said it's because of my skill. Apart from the physical changes, nothing serious… Well, actually, I'm still not used to them.

— Ah… I see…

I already opened my mouth to say that I had to go, but the words had not even left my mouth before she preempted me:

— How is your descent going, Mister Kopii?

— Well, little by little.

— Which floor have you reached?

— The twelfth floor.

— Have you found yourself a party?

— No.

— I see. So, I will ask you not to descend below this floor anymore. It is already commendable that you reached the twelfth floor alone. But this cannot continue like this. The monsters are getting bigger, and their strength differs quite significantly between floors. So, however brilliant you are, Mister Kopii, there is a limit to what can be achieved alone.

I simply stared at her — everything she said went in one ear and out the other. That is, I absolutely did not care what she was spouting. I wanted only one thing — to end this conversation as quickly as possible. I just wanted to ignore her and leave, but that would have been disrespectful to the guild.

And who knows, maybe they are vindictive bastards. After all, everyone knew that the guild had authority and a rather significant word. If they say you are guilty of killing someone in the dungeon, even if you did not do it, no one will care — everyone will consider you guilty, and you will be punished to the fullest severity for what you never committed.

So I had to just endure her emotionless speech and stony face. If it were not for the twitching of her tail and ears, one might think she was a statue.

— Are you listening to me, Mister Kopii?

— Yes, I am listening attentively.

Well, looking at his bewildered face, she hardly believed it, but she could do nothing about it. She could only give advice.

— I see you still have work; I don't want to distract you from it any longer. Bye.

— Goodbye.

That was the note on which we ended the conversation. Waving my hand one last time, I left the guild. My smile immediately vanished — this conversation had been rather boring and costly. I did not want to waste time in vain — I already had a lot to do today. And these empty words had rather annoyed me with their uselessness.

So after the guild, my next target was the Blue Pharmacy.

— Mom, he stinks.

Casting a glance at the boy, I walked past them — there was slight disgust on their faces. Stretching out my arms, I showed them the middle finger.

— Go to hell.

Saying that, I immediately continued on my way, but it changed a little.

«I need to clean myself up,» — Kane thought, returning home to take a shower, and after that, he would immediately head to the Blue Pharmacy.

Having done that, I had already thought up a perfect excuse for why my eyes were black; all that remained was to play my new role well.

With such thoughts, I entered the Blue Pharmacy — here, as always, nothing had changed. My main goal for coming was to update my stats.
