Chapter 156 - Chapter 156: Making a Move, The Villain’s Shock

Carl had already noticed that Ritsuki was tailing him.

So, he deliberately split up from Zhang Manyue.

From then on, he chose routes that were mostly quiet and out of the way,

places so remote that some didn't even have streetlights.

Yet Ritsuki still didn't make a move.

What's with this guy?

We've come all the way to such a deserted place, and he still doesn't dare act.

Fine, don't act, but why keep following me?

Carl was a little speechless.

After thinking for a moment, he flagged down a taxi.

His destination: the outskirts of the city.

He glanced back.

Sure enough, Ritsuki's car was following.

The taxi drove for dozens of minutes.

When they reached a completely desolate area, Carl got out.

Fortunately, before coming to Goryeo, Carl had prepared some cash and stored it in his personal subspace,

otherwise, he wouldn't have had money for today's flowers and sightseeing.

After getting out, Carl didn't walk away.

Instead, he just stood there.

He looked around.

All he saw were patches of bare earth and a few scattered trees.

Not just no streetlights, there weren't even houses.

This was the wilderness of the outskirts.

Just then, a bright light appeared,

so bright that an ordinary person would have been dazzled, unable to see a thing.

It was probably a car's high beams.

Of course, with Carl's physical constitution and eyesight,

staring straight into such lights was no challenge.

He could clearly make out the black sedan not far away.

Through the windshield, he could see Ritsuki behind the wheel, his expression cold and grim.

"So, you came after all," Carl murmured to himself.

Skreech!

The black sedan stopped right in front of him.

The headlights lit up the surroundings.

Bang!

Ritsuki pushed the door open and stepped out, closing it softly behind him.

Seeing Carl, he curved his lips into a thin, chilly smile.

He began walking toward him.

Carl chuckled softly.

"What, here to get yourself killed?"

"Hah?"

Ritsuki let out a cold snort.

"Didn't I tell you… the only reason you're still alive is because I let you live.

You should be grateful."

He narrowed his eyes.

"I hate ungrateful people the most."

"So? What are you going to do about it?" Carl asked, unfazed.

"Even if you're ungrateful," Ritsuki continued with mock generosity,

"I'm still a charitable man.

I have a gift for you."

With that, he pulled a pistol from inside his jacket.

"You know what this is?"

He raised it, aiming at Carl.

"This is a tranquilizer gun used for capturing animals," he explained lightly,

as though Carl was already his prey.

"For someone like you, one shot is enough to knock you out completely.

I've loaded it with a full dose,

you won't feel a thing before passing out."

A cold smile touched his lips.

"Honestly, I don't like doing this sort of thing.

But you had to provoke me, didn't you?

You dared touch a woman I had my eye on…

So now, I'll have to send you off myself.

Your death will be dressed up as a flawless suicide."

"Is that so? Impressive," Carl said with a light smile.

"You seem quite practiced at this."

"Judging from your tone, this isn't your first time,

maybe with that actress girlfriend of yours… or your brother?"

The moment Carl spoke, Ritsuki's expression shifted to panic.

How?

How could this man know those things?

The girlfriend, fine, that was recent.

But his brother?

That had been over a decade ago.

How could anyone possibly know?

Still, his panic only lasted a moment.

What did it matter if this man knew?

He was about to die anyway.

If anything, knowing such things would only make him die faster.

"Bastard, die!"

Ritsuki snarled and pulled the trigger.

Bang!

The dart flew toward Carl's head.

Clang!

A sharp metallic ring split the air,

and then, something black dropped to the ground.

"What…?"

Ritsuki's eyes went wide, staring in disbelief at the object on the ground.

Illuminated by the headlights, he could see it clearly.

It was the dart from his tranquilizer gun,

and it had fallen from Carl's body.

Looking closer, the dart was completely misshapen,

as though it had slammed into something impossibly hard.

But he had aimed straight at Carl's head!

They were barely a meter apart,

there was no way he could have missed.

And even if he had missed, the dart should have flown off into the darkness,

not ended up crushed and lying at his feet.

This meant… the dart had hit Carl's head,

and Carl's head was so hard that it had crumpled the dart like tinfoil?!

Impossible.

Ritsuki knew exactly what his darts could do,

they were potent enough to bring down an elephant.

Yet hitting a human head had turned it into scrap metal?

If a subordinate had reported such a thing,

he'd have kicked the idiot to death for treating him like a fool.

But now, seeing it with his own eyes,

What… the hell was going on?

"Surprised?"

Carl's voice snapped him out of his daze.

Ritsuki looked up to see Carl smiling faintly at him.

"I told you before,

even someone like you is nothing to me.

Not even the Samwol Group would dare threaten me.

And tell me,

before you make a move, don't you bother checking your target's background?"

Ritsuki's face flickered.

He wasn't stupid,

far from it. He was smart and meticulous.

Did Carl mean he had some powerful backing?

Today, he'd been so provoked by Carl's arrogance that he'd decided to skip the investigation and deal with him directly.

After all, no matter how powerful your background,

one shot could end you.

And Carl had not only offended him,

but also somehow knew about the actress and his brother.

That meant… Carl had to die.

"You freak, die!"

He pulled the trigger again.

Bang!

Once again, the dart fell to the ground,

crushed and twisted just like before.
