Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Indra vs Obito and Itachi (Part 1)

The night sky hung heavy above the Uchiha district, its silence broken only by the faint crackle of flames still smoldering in the distance from earlier skirmishes. In the heart of that darkness, three figures stood apart, their eyes gleaming with power and tension.

On one side stood Indra Uchiha, his expression calm but brimming with arrogance, his crimson Sharingan rotating with quiet menace. His posture was relaxed, yet his presence radiated suffocating dominance, as though the air itself bent beneath his will.

Across from him, the masked man, Obito Uchiha, adjusted his single mask slit, his Mangekyō Sharingan glowing fiercely. Beside him, Itachi Uchiha's eyes, also glimmering with the tomoe of his own Sharingan, remained sharp, watching Indra with the cold calculating gaze of a predator waiting for the right moment to strike.

The atmosphere was thick with anticipation. This was not a skirmish—it was the beginning of an earth-shattering battle.

---

The Opening Exchange

Without another word, Obito made the first move. His body flickered, vanishing into his space-warping technique, Kamui, and instantly reappeared behind Indra, his kunai flashing forward in a silent arc aimed directly for the jugular.

But Indra did not even turn his head. His Sharingan had already read the motion. Tilting his body by the narrowest margin, he avoided the strike with ease. His hand shot out, fingers curling into a ball of concentrated chakra as he thrust it backward.

"Chidori!"

The electric chirping filled the night, and the glowing thrust was aimed with lethal precision. Obito's body, however, warped just as the attack was about to connect, slipping into his dimension. The Chidori ripped through the air, lighting up the ground where Obito had stood with sparks and stone debris.

At the same moment, Itachi appeared from Indra's flank, his hands forming rapid seals. "Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!"

A massive ball of searing flame erupted from his lips, engulfing the battlefield in a rolling wave of heat. The air shimmered violently, shadows dancing in the light of the inferno.

Indra's eyes narrowed. With a single hand seal, he countered.

"Water Style: Water Dragon Jutsu!"

From the nearby water reserves flowing under the compound, a colossal dragon of churning water surged upward, roaring as it collided with the fireball. Steam exploded outward, engulfing the battlefield in a thick mist that blurred sightlines.

Itachi did not falter. The mist became his cover. From its veil, a barrage of shuriken infused with chakra rained down. Indra responded with swift precision, weaving another set of seals and releasing a gust of cutting wind.

"Wind Style: Great Breakthrough!"

The gale scattered the shuriken harmlessly, forcing Itachi to retreat back into the mist. But Obito emerged again, this time phasing in directly at Indra's flank with a chain weapon swinging in his hands. The chain blurred as it whipped through the air, aiming to bind Indra's arm.

Indra, unshaken, caught the chain mid-flight with one hand, halting its momentum with raw strength. He jerked Obito forward, dragging him dangerously close. Chakra flared in his free palm.

"Rasengan."

The swirling sphere of energy roared to life, vibrating with violent destructive power. He thrust it forward, aiming to crush Obito point-blank.

But again, Obito's body blurred, slipping into intangibility as the Rasengan passed through him harmlessly, exploding into the ground with devastating force. The earth cracked, the shockwave rippling across the field.

Obito reappeared a distance away, narrowing his eye. "So… you already understand Kamui's timing."

Indra smirked. "Your trick only works when your enemy is ignorant. I already know how long you can stay intangible, and I know when you're forced to become solid again."

The remark sent a visible twitch through Obito's jaw beneath the mask.

---

Escalating Violence

Itachi did not waste the chance. From the mist, his eyes shifted into a crimson whirlpool of power. His Mangekyō Sharingan activated, and the black flames of Amaterasu ignited around Indra.

The flames devoured the air itself, their heat searing through space. For any other opponent, escape would be impossible. But Indra raised his hand calmly. His chakra surged outward like a tidal wave.

"Wind Style: Storm Cutter!"

An enormous spiraling gale erupted around him, its cutting edges slicing apart the very ground. The force of the storm smothered the Amaterasu flames before they could cling to him, dispersing them into fragments that burned harmlessly in the dirt.

The shock of such a counter made Itachi's eyes tighten, but he pressed on. He weaved hand seals with unrelenting speed and summoned a barrage of shadow clones, each unleashing a combination of fire-style techniques that rained down like a storm of meteors.

Indra answered with equal ruthlessness.

"Earth Style: Earth Wall!"

The ground rose violently, forming a colossal barrier that absorbed the barrage of fire. Explosions rocked the air, debris scattering, but Indra stood unshaken behind the shield. With a single stomp, he shattered the wall himself, propelling stone fragments forward like shrapnel toward Itachi's clones, annihilating them in an instant.

Obito chose that moment to dive in again, his body flickering in and out of Kamui's dimension as he aimed to confuse Indra with unpredictable positioning. He appeared in front, then behind, then above, each time striking with kunai, chain, or raw force.

But Indra's Sharingan followed every single movement. His eyes predicted the timing of Obito's materialization with uncanny accuracy.

"Your space-time ability…" Indra muttered as his body blurred in a sudden high-speed dash, "…is nothing before true vision."

His hand, glowing with Chidori again, pierced through the mist and slashed across Obito's mask as he phased in to attack. Sparks exploded as the lightning chakra seared through the surface, cracking the mask slightly. Obito was forced to retreat, his breathing harsher now.

---

A Battle of Attrition

Itachi moved in to cover Obito, drawing his sword and charging at Indra with speed so sharp it nearly cut the wind. The blades clashed, sparks showering as steel ground against steel. Indra's raw strength overwhelmed Itachi's finesse, forcing him backward step by step.

But Itachi's eyes glimmered with resolve. "Tsukuyomi."

The illusion struck instantly. Reality twisted, and for a fleeting moment, Indra found himself inside the crimson moonlit world of Tsukuyomi. Black stakes rose around him, binding his limbs, while Itachi appeared before him, blade in hand.

Yet Indra's eyes spun, glowing with furious defiance. Chakra surged violently, fracturing the illusion. He forced himself out through sheer ocular dominance, shattering the world of Tsukuyomi like glass.

When he emerged back in reality, his gaze locked with Itachi's, a thin trail of blood seeping from his eye. But Indra smiled coldly.

"Not enough."

With terrifying speed, his fist lashed out, striking Itachi squarely in the stomach. The force propelled Itachi backward, blood spraying from his lips.

Obito caught him before he hit the ground, setting him down briefly before phasing forward once more. He knew if they gave Indra space, defeat was inevitable.

---

The Storm Builds

Obito's chakra spiked violently as he pulled out explosive tags, scattering them across the field in a pattern designed to limit Indra's movement. At the same time, Itachi, forcing himself up despite his injuries, activated his Mangekyō again.

This time, his spectral warrior began to form—the ribcage of Susanoo glowing with ethereal power. The skeletal structure shielded him as he advanced toward Indra, his sword materializing with ominous weight.

Indra's expression darkened slightly. His chakra flared once again, his mastery of elemental ninjutsu pushing his control to the peak.

With one hand seal, he unleashed a dual technique.

"Fire Style: Dragon Flame Jutsu!"

"Wind Style: Gale Palm!"

The two techniques combined into a raging inferno, the dragon-shaped blaze amplified by roaring winds, creating a superheated wave of destruction that surged toward both Obito and Itachi.

Itachi's Susanoo raised its blade, slicing through the flames, though the effort strained his body, blood dripping from the corners of his eyes. Obito warped space with Kamui, narrowly avoiding being incinerated.

But Indra was already moving again. He closed the distance instantly, his Rasengan glowing brighter than before, crackling with raw energy as he aimed it straight at Susanoo's chest.

The impact shook the ground like an earthquake, the shockwave rippling outward and splitting the very stone beneath them.

---

The battle had only begun, but already the earth was scarred, the night split open by roaring chakra and steel. Indra stood tall, his breathing steady, while Itachi's body weakened and Obito's mask bore cracks from relentless counters.

Indra's eyes gleamed with anticipation. "Show me more… if you want to survive."

The clash was far from over.

The ground cracked violently as Indra Uchiha's feet pressed forward, his eyes locked onto both masked Obito and Itachi without a shred of hesitation. Dust and smoke swirled around the battlefield, creating a suffocating atmosphere. Both Obito and Itachi, though wounded and fatigued from the first half of the clash, prepared themselves once more, unwilling to let this battle end without giving their utmost.

Obito's single Sharingan eye behind the mask burned with fury. His voice was deep and resolute.

"You won't defeat us that easily, Indra. Kamui will erase every attempt you make."

Indra smirked faintly, his expression calm yet filled with overbearing confidence. "Kamui, Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi—your tricks mean nothing if the one facing them has already surpassed their limits."

Obito dashed forward, his form flickering as his body phased in and out of reality. Each step he took distorted space slightly as he activated Kamui. Shuriken imbued with fire chakra burst from his hands, spinning violently through the air before exploding into fiery blasts. At the same moment, Itachi dashed from the opposite side, his movements swift despite his coughing fits, his Sharingan scanning Indra's every twitch, every subtle movement, as if reading his intentions.

Indra's hands moved swiftly through seals, his chakra flaring like an ocean crashing against rocks. Lightning surged violently from his palm, forming a Chidori. With a sudden burst of speed, he cut through the flaming shuriken, the sound of chirping birds echoing in the air as sparks scattered.

Obito phased through the attack, countering with a sudden attempt to grab Indra and drag him into the Kamui dimension. Yet Indra had anticipated it. The instant Obito's hand tried to touch him, Indra's form twisted slightly, his counterattack a blast of wind chakra from his free hand that forced Obito to retreat backward before being torn apart by the violent pressure.

Itachi saw the opportunity and cast Amaterasu, black flames roaring to life around Indra's figure. Yet in that very moment, Indra countered with a water-style technique, summoning a wave that crashed against the black fire. While the water couldn't extinguish Amaterasu, the sudden burst of steam obscured Itachi's vision for a fraction of a second. That single instant was enough for Indra to push forward.

Lightning wrapped around his arm once again as he clashed with Obito, who barely avoided by phasing at the right moment. Sparks rained across the battlefield as both sides tried to overwhelm the other with sheer speed and precision.

Obito reappeared behind Indra, kunai aimed directly at the back of his neck. But Indra's body twisted at the last second, his own kunai clashing with Obito's, the metallic ring echoing. Indra pushed Obito back with a surge of strength, forcing the masked man to stumble a few steps before regaining balance.

"You already know Kamui's weakness," Obito growled, his tone filled with irritation. "Then I'll just erase every chance you have before you can act."

His body flickered, disappearing again into Kamui's intangibility, only to appear several meters away and launch a barrage of fire-style jutsu. Great Fireball after Great Fireball surged forth, creating an inferno across the battlefield.

Indra's eyes glowed with an almost unnatural sharpness. His hands moved again, summoning a massive wall of earth to block the incoming flames. The ground trembled as the wall rose, shielding him from the blast. However, Itachi took advantage of the cover.

"Tsukuyomi."

The instant their eyes met, the illusion activated. Time froze around Indra as he found himself bound inside the crimson world of Itachi's Tsukuyomi. Blades pierced his body endlessly, pain meant to crush his mind and spirit.

Yet, within that frozen realm, Indra's Mangekyō glowed brilliantly. His expression remained calm, his willpower indomitable. The illusion shattered within moments, Indra's chakra surging violently to dispel the technique completely. Itachi staggered back, coughing blood, his body trembling from the strain of forcing Tsukuyomi onto someone whose will was far stronger than expected.

Indra didn't waste time. Lightning surged along his blade as he lunged forward. Obito barely had time to drag Itachi back into safety, phasing just as Indra's strike shattered the ground where they had been standing.

Obito gritted his teeth. "Damn you."

Indra's expression was calm but deadly. "Your techniques are formidable, but they only delay the inevitable."

He clapped his hands together, unleashing a surge of fire-style chakra. A sea of flames roared outward, consuming everything in its path. Obito and Itachi leapt into the air, narrowly avoiding the destruction. But Indra was already prepared.

From the fire, he summoned wind-style currents, amplifying the flames into a massive inferno that rose into the sky. The combined effect was devastating. The battlefield became a sea of fire, heatwaves distorting the very air.

Obito warped space to create distance, pulling Itachi with him. Both landed far away, breathing heavily. Itachi's chest heaved, his body weakening with every passing second. His eyes were bloodshot, and his face pale.

"Obito…" Itachi muttered weakly. "Even together, his strength… is too overwhelming."

Obito clenched his fists. "We can't retreat. Not now."

Indra stepped through the flames, his silhouette imposing and terrifyingly calm. His eyes glowed red, Mangekyō spinning with power. His voice cut through the crackle of fire like a blade.

"This is the difference between us. Your struggle is admirable, but your fate is already decided."

Obito refused to yield. He activated Kamui again, attempting to warp Indra entirely. The air around Indra distorted violently as space tried to drag him into the alternate dimension. But Indra's chakra surged outward in raw force, disrupting the spatial pull before it could complete. With a roar, he launched a Rasengan forward, the swirling sphere of destructive chakra colliding with Obito and forcing him to phase once more.

Itachi appeared behind Indra, his blade coated with fire chakra, slashing forward. The blade connected for a moment, but Indra's body twisted, his counter a surge of lightning that shot through Itachi's arm, forcing him back with searing pain.

Blood spilled from Itachi's mouth as he staggered, but he refused to fall. His eyes burned with determination even as his body weakened further.

Indra faced them both at once, his chakra surging even stronger, while Obito's breaths grew heavier with every use of Kamui. Both of them were cornered. Both of them were running out of strength. Yet Indra remained composed, calm, his strength showing no signs of faltering.

The clash resumed with violent intensity. Obito warped in and out of Kamui's dimension, launching fire-style ninjutsu from unpredictable angles. Itachi attacked with precision, using genjutsu illusions to try and create openings. But Indra countered each with overwhelming power, his mastery over all elemental styles and devastating Rasengan and Chidori combinations suppressing them entirely.

Minutes passed like hours as the battlefield shook under their combined techniques. Yet the outcome grew clearer with every exchange. Obito's Kamui became slower. Itachi's body staggered more with each attack. And Indra—he continued to press forward with unwavering dominance.

Finally, Obito attempted a desperate move, warping behind Indra with Kamui, kunai aimed directly at his heart. But Indra spun at the last second, his hand slamming into Obito's chest with a lightning-charged strike. Obito screamed in pain, blood splattering inside his mask as his body was hurled backward, smashing into the ground violently.

Itachi coughed blood again, his legs trembling, yet he forced himself to face Indra one last time. He swung his blade, only for Indra to catch it effortlessly, his strength crushing Itachi's resistance. With a single push, Itachi was forced to his knees, coughing blood, half-kneeling as his vision blurred.

Obito tried to stand again, but Indra's foot pressed against his chest, Rasengan forming in his hand, ready to finish him.

But before the final strike could land, black tendrils surged from the ground. Black Zetsu emerged, enveloping Obito and pulling him into the shadows.

"Tch." Indra's eyes narrowed, frustration flashing across his face. "I should have killed you earlier, Obito."

The battlefield fell into silence as Black Zetsu disappeared with Obito, leaving only Itachi kneeling in defeat. Blood dripped from his mouth as he glared weakly at Indra, unwilling to bow even as his body failed him.

Indra merely looked down at him with a faint smile. "Still standing, even in this state. You truly are stubborn, Itachi."

Itachi coughed blood again, his hand pressing against the ground to hold himself up. His eyes met Indra's, filled with both defiance and acknowledgment.

Indra's smile remained calm, confident, almost cold. The battle was over.
