Chapter 149 - DSMW [149]

"Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh—!!"

Kaima's lithe figure skidded across the Duel Arena before finally stopping. Even her silver-white coat showed signs of tearing.

The weakest monster overturning the strongest—every spectator stood stunned, as if waking from a dream.

A single Giant Mokey Mokey slapped down Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon.

"No way!"

"This can't actually happen in real life, right?"

"A Level 1 tofu block just took down the strongest Level 12 Fusion Dragon..."

"Aisha Carlos really pulled off the ultimate comeback: weakest vs. strongest."

Public opinion did a 180. Mokey Mokey—the weakest monster that everyone had scoffed at, that everyone doubted for its attack position—had just created the greatest upset in Fusion Academy's history. A miracle that surpassed even the ultimate dragon.

"Impossible!"

Reigun Seth slammed the armrest.

Those three open-palm slaps from Mokey Mokey felt like they landed right on his own face.

The louder he had mocked Aisha, the louder the crowd now cheered. The stronger his disdain, the more painful this comeback.

A moment ago, Duke Reigun had mocked Alice and the Carlos family, wearing the mantle of fate's chosen victor.

And now, the Seth family's pride—the strongest monster summoned by their heir—was defeated by the Carlos family's weakest.

To destroy a man isn't to kill him. Miles used Mokey Mokey to crush Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon. That was the devastation of the soul.

As the battle ended, the giant Mokey Mokey shrank back into its harmless square form.

But returning to 300 ATK and 100 DEF didn't mean it was powerless.

As long as the Amulet of Ambition was equipped, even Kaima's strongest high-level monsters were just target practice.

"How about that, Kaima! Your ultimate dragon's down! This 'destined fate' you kept yapping about doesn't seem so unshakable after all!"

After beating Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon with Mokey Mokey, Miles twisted the knife.

And since that move was called 'Respect Teachings – Triple Slap,' it deserved a mental blow to match.

"Obsessing over raw card power is too rigid. That just traps you in a lifeless spiral of darkness and control, just like your boring life."

"Trapped in darkness? Tch, don't pretend to understand me, Aisha Carlos! You and I were never the same!"

Kaima pushed herself up, knees shaking. Losing Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon to Mokey Mokey was a major blow… emotionally and strategically.

Regardless, the Duel wasn't over. Her LP hadn't hit zero yet. And Kaima Seth wasn't someone who would ever yield while she still had Life Points—"She's always been too harsh. Too stubborn."

That was her brother Kevin's verdict.

Kaima held others to high standards—but was even more punishing toward herself. Obsessively so.

"Fate isn't something you change on a whim. Thinking one or two lucky moves can turn everything around? That's what's naive, Aisha Carlos!"

Though her triple attack had failed, Kaima didn't flinch. She slammed down another card.

A-rank Spell Card. The sky and earth distorted.

"—Spell Card activate: Dimension Fusion! I'll show you, Aisha—you can't change anything!"

[Pay 2000 Life Points. Each player Special Summons as many of their banished monsters as possible.]

"Oooooooohhhhhh!"

[Kaima, LP: 2700 → 700]

She nearly emptied her LP to bring back her banished monsters—specifically, the three Blue-Eyes she'd used for Fusion with Dragon's Mirror.

"I Special Summon all three Blue-Eyes White Dragons banished by Dragon's Mirror!"

[Blue-Eyes White Dragon, ATK: 3000] ×3

"ROAAAAR—!!"

Triple white-dragon roars. Though none had Neo Blue-Eyes' 4500 ATK, the pressure of fielding three legends at once was overwhelming.

Aisha muttered, "Kaima had a card like that in reserve..."

Dimension Fusion—an A-rank Spell that returned her Blue-Eyes from the banished zone. It was Kaima's backup plan after using up her resources for Dragon's Mirror.

She hadn't activated it during the battle phase because Neo Blue-Eyes' triple attack only worked if she controlled no other face-up monsters. Summoning Blue-Eyes early would've limited her damage.

Or rather, Kaima had been so confident Neo Blue-Eyes could end the duel, she never considered needing a backup.

"As long as Mokey Mokey is equipped with the Amulet of Ambition, no amount of Blue-Eyes can beat it!" Miles declared. "Also, thanks to Dimension Fusion, I can summon my own banished monsters!"

Miles had some banished monsters too—not quite as dramatic as Kaima's dragons, but still...

"I Special Summon Clear Kuriboh and Relinkuriboh in Defense Position!"

They wouldn't win the Duel, but they weren't nothing either. And if Kaima was using a banned card like Dimension Fusion, Miles might as well accept the courtesy.

"A field of weaklings—how pitiful."

Kaima's fingers slid another card from her hand. Its violent aura was already leaking.

"Let's wipe the board clean. Spell Card activate: Burst Stream of Destruction – Cataclysm Cannon!"

[This turn, your 'Blue-Eyes White Dragons' cannot attack. You can only activate this card if you control a 'Blue-Eyes White Dragon': Destroy all monsters your opponent controls.]

A Spell that shared a name with Blue-Eyes' attack. When it activated, the three dragons took flight and gathered a field-shattering burst.

"Perish before the power of absolute dragons!"

Kaima roared her return. A flash of white consumed the field, wiping out Mokey Mokey, Clear Kuriboh, and Relinkuriboh alike—even one equipped with Amulet of Ambition.

"I Set one card face-down. Turn end."

Though Mokey Mokey had humiliated her Neo Blue-Eyes, Kaima didn't let it break her. She had turned the tables.

That resilience—the will to rise after defeat—made Kaima one of the most dangerous opponents Miles had ever faced.

Strong cards. Rigid beliefs. An unshakable pursuit of strength and victory.

"My turn! Draw!"

With Mokey Mokey gone, Miles didn't use the Amulet of Ambition's effect:

[If this card is sent to the Graveyard, return it to the top of your Deck.]

As powerful as the card was with weak monsters, Miles had no cards in hand. Only a lone face-down remained from Turn 1.

Kaima had no cards in hand either, but her card quality far surpassed his. One of hers could equal three of his.

So, to face three Blue-Eyes, what kind of card did Miles need?

"—Spell Card activate: Card of Demise!"

"That card!?" Irena gasped from the stands.

Card of Demise—won from the Shadow Game against the Sacred Beasts. So rare it didn't even exist in the Magic Directory.

"Until I have five cards in hand, I can draw cards!"

"Draw! Draw! Draw! Draw! Draw!"

Five fresh cards. Miles had never felt so free.

Only in Spirit Continent Duels could a card like this exist.

"When did she get a card that powerful..." Ren muttered.

She hadn't witnessed the Sacred Beast battle—nor seen this ultimate recovery card.

"The card isn't the amazing part. It's that Aisha Carlos managed to draw it at the perfect moment! Truly worthy of being my rival!"

Kevin praised Aisha as usual—but he wasn't wrong. Pulling Card of Demise in that moment was the mark of incredible luck.

"Come on, Aisha. Beat my sister! Show her that a Duelist's future shouldn't be shackled by their family's fate! You're the only one who can do it!"

With five cards in hand, Miles regained a chance to fight three Blue-Eyes head-on.

"Now this... this is a comeback worthy of destiny itself!"

The counterattack began. Miles played his first Spell.

"—Spell Card activate: Dark Factory of Mass Production!"

[Target 2 Normal Monsters in your Graveyard; add them to your hand.]

"I target two Mokey Mokey in my Graveyard and add them to my hand!"

The first was the one that smacked Neo Blue-Eyes and was then destroyed.

The second was discarded by Kaima via Graceful Charity after the Exchange.

"You'll regret that, Kaima. Throwing away the Mokey Mokey I gave you was your biggest mistake this duel!"

With two Mokey Mokey back in hand, Miles flipped a third face-up.

"Three Mokey Mokey..."

Kaima, who'd just been slapped silly by one, finally looked shaken.

"Aisha Carlos, what are you planning?"

"What else? To show you what's possible when the weakest band together!"

Mimicking Kaima's Fusion Summon gesture, Miles threw all three Mokey Mokey into the sky.

"—Spell Card activate: Polymerization!"

Hovering in the air, waiting to absorb the three cards, was the second Polymerization in Miles' hand.

"Fusion again?" Kaima scoffed.

This was Miles' second use of Polymerization. The first was traded from Kaima; this one was his own.

During Fusion Academy Festival Duels, each student demonstrated their unique approach to Fusion.

Vice Principal Raiden would be smiling in his grave.

"I fuse three Mokey Mokey in my hand! To challenge the fate I was born into—to evolve from the weakest destiny! Triple Mokey Fusion—evolve into the ultimate form!"

He deliberately echoed Kaima's Fusion chant for Neo Blue-Eyes. If she used the strongest Blue-Eyes for a triple fusion, he would use the weakest.

Ultimate Dragon vs. Ultimate Mokey.

Who says low-level monsters can't evolve?

"W-What is that thing!?"

The sky dimmed like storm clouds gathering. A massive shadow loomed.

When people looked up, they froze in shock.

"The heartbeat of a king descends! Witness a force that makes the heavens tremble! Fusion Summon—My spirit! Mokey Mokey King!"

[Mokey Mokey King] Level 6│LIGHT│Fairy│300 ATK

["Mokey Mokey" + "Mokey Mokey" + "Mokey Mokey"]

'...A tofu cube big enough to block out the sky?'
