"So, Peter, Jessica Jones, what exactly are you two up to?"
"Dante, what are you saying!? I swear Jessica and I are just pure friends!"
"Who the hell asked about your private lives? The FBI Academy doesn't care about that anyway, and you're not kids anymore..." Dante looked at Peter and Jessica Jones. "I'm asking how you two suddenly appeared here."
"Cough, cough, cough, if I said I was just getting beaten up, would you believe me?"
Dante rolled his eyes. These two brats were more trouble than the last batch.
But if they were here, they were here. Their abilities were enough for self-preservation, and in the Academy, their combat strength was among the best.
Besides, this trip to Asgard wasn't a mission or military op, so the danger level was probably low.
After all, Asgard's three siblings were under his command.
Then he turned his head and froze.
How the hell did the Airbus get teleported up here too!?
Because they were traveling through the Bifrost Bridge's hyperspace tunnel, the massive Airbus had also been included in its teleportation range.
This hyperspace teleportation tech was seriously insane.
It let everyone inside exist in a superluminal environment without any physical side effects.
The most outrageous part was that the Bifrost worked regardless of physical fitness.
And it wasn't just a teleportation device. It could double as a dimensional railgun.
So how did they just casually switch the Bifrost between weapon and transport modes?
"Dante, when we get to Asgard, you have to meet my brother Heimdall."
"Heimdall is the Guardian of Asgard. He has a pair of eyes that can pierce spatial boundaries, seeing even the smallest insect's wings flap in the most hidden corners of the Nine Realms."
Thor spoke of Heimdall with genuine respect.
Heimdall could be considered Asgard's Captain America.
Not only was his strength among the top Asgardian gods, but his morality and character were saint-level, and that was the real reason Asgardians respected and loved him.
Even without the "Odinsson" name.
"Thor, how did you ask Heimdall for this teleportation?"
"Uh, I just told him to teleport everyone around me. I didn't expect him to bring the Airbus too."
"Seems like this Heimdall can freely control the Bifrost's coverage area... He better get it accurate. If the Airbus is missing any parts, I'm making him pay for it."
"Uh, if you can find a lawyer for interplanetary lawsuits..."
"Stop being a smart aleck. You're surprisingly clever when it comes to being unreasonable."
"Anyway, I learned it all from him."
Thor waved dismissively, pointing at Loki.
"...No, I've already been keeping my presence to a minimum, and you're still blaming me? Is that right, Dante?"
"To be honest, you do have a bit of a 'source of all evil' vibe." Dante patted Loki's shoulder earnestly. "You still haven't grasped the essence. As long as you're righteous enough and shameless enough, it's fine. Anyway, your brother can't really kill you now, can he?"
Loki opened his mouth but didn't reply.
He didn't agree.
He believed Thor had genuinely wanted to kill him at some point.
And now they were about to return to Asgard.
He hadn't forgotten that he was currently a defector there.
Odin, as his adoptive father, wouldn't kill him, but prison time was likely.
Not that Asgardian prison was bad.
Could it be worse than being imprisoned by Doctor Doom?
What he feared was his father's disappointment.
What he feared even more was his mother's worry and blame, and Sif's contempt.
Loki Odinson's green eyes, usually shining like gems, dimmed, losing their luster.
It was an old wound.
No matter how stubborn he was, he had to admit that from birth until now, he had been insecure.
Compared to Thor and his childhood friends, Loki's physical ability was unremarkable.
"Unremarkable" was relative still above average but among Asgard's elite warriors like Thor, Sif, and The Warriors Three, it wasn't impressive.
Especially Volstagg, the Lion of Asgard, who had once wielded the Ultimate Universe's Mjolnir and become War Thor.
So even though Loki excelled in magic from Frigga and had ice powers from his bloodline, he obsessed over close combat with dual daggers.
Deep down, he wanted to be like his brother and friends.
He wanted his father's attention.
He wanted Sif to notice him.
The Asgardian prince from Jotunheim had been lost and insecure for a thousand years, eventually going astray...
Family education, people! This is why it's important!
Although Loki hadn't even taken the first step down the wrong path before getting beaten by Clark Kent and a certain bald dimensional Guardian, then tricked by Dante into signing a 250-year labor contract.
It looked bad, but it had sent his life in another direction...
One where he didn't have to sit forever on the throne of time.
Dante noticed Loki's mood shift. As his leader, he had a good idea what Loki feared.
"Don't be afraid. You signed a 250-year labor contract, remember?" Dante grinned. "While that contract's active, you're an FBI agent, my subordinate. Even Odin shouldn't think of touching someone I protect."
"Uh, are you really that domineering?"
Dante's nonsense successfully derailed Loki's thoughts, and his worries faded.
At that moment, Thor, at the front, pointed and shouted:
"Everyone, we're almost there."
…
The Bifrost tunnel trip wasn't long. Dante had only exchanged a few more words with the team before they arrived.
Asgard, the Realm of Gods.
A planet at an unknown location and distance from Earth.
As they exited the Bifrost, another scene unfolded before them.
An enormous gate. A towering starry dome. A rapidly spinning light wheel illuminating a grand hall.
It was impressive, but not far from what one might imagine.
The main difference was scale.
The movie's Bifrost could maybe fit one Quinjet.
This one could easily fit two Airbuses.
Now this felt like a dimensional railgun. The movie's version didn't match its near-planet-busting power.
And this wasn't even Asgard proper, but a bridgehead...
Heimdall's residence and office.
The tall Asgardian stood with both hands on his great sword, right in front of them.
"Oh my God, we finally meet again, my dear brother."
Thor, back on Asgardian soil, was thrilled. He walked forward and hugged Heimdall tightly.
Heimdall accepted the address of "brother" calmly, but beneath the golden helmet, his expression was heavy. His brows furrowed.
Because he was looking at Loki.
"Hey! Heimdall! I may have made some mistakes, not big but not small either..." Loki pointed at himself nervously. "But I'm still an Asgardian Prince."
"Don't flatter yourself. He isn't looking at you right now." Hela reached from behind, pushed Loki aside, and stepped forward, meeting Heimdall's gaze. "The last time we met was when you banished and sealed me in Midgard, wasn't it? Heimdall, God of Dawn… No, now I should call you Heimdall, Guardian of the Bridge."
"You have returned from that eternal sinking seal, Hela, the Eldest Princess."
"Eldest Princess? Heimdall, have you forgotten my status as Crown Prince? When I was crowned, you were in the front row of gods watching the ceremony."
"Those are beautiful memories… But now, the rightful heir of Asgard is Thor Odinson."
The fighting intent between them flared instantly, as if a battle could erupt any second.
Heimdall was on high alert. Thor had never seen him so tense.
Loki retreated pitifully.
Just now, he'd thought Heimdall was here to arrest him.
But apparently, he didn't even qualify as a major enemy.
Damn man.
The Star Team all gave Loki sincere sympathy.
"Loki's about to break, go hug him," Dante said, elbowing Hulk's thigh.
"Oh, good! Hulk, hug!"
"Pfft!" Loki almost spat blood. "Hulk, can you be any gentler!?"
He scrambled out of Hulk's arms, but the interruption did help him relax.
Who told his sister to be the Death Goddess who slaughtered through the Nine Realms?
You just get used to it.
Everyone felt the oppressive air from the two Asgardian gods facing off.
For Heimdall, Hela's titles had become meaningless after Odin banished her.
Now her biggest identity was…
An enemy of Asgard.
Maybe its greatest enemy ever.
Even if he went all out, Heimdall could only hold her for a while. She was Odin's eldest daughter, former executioner, commander of Asgard, and the goddess who commanded death.
Hela, for her part, was eager.
The moment she stepped onto Asgard, her power had surged to near-peak, and would only recover more the longer she stayed.
If Dante hadn't stepped in, she might have had a fight with Heimdall right there.
"Do you remember what we came here for? We didn't come to declare war on your father."
Dante stepped forward and gently took Hela's hand.
Heimdall's eyes widened.
In his sight, Hela's overwhelming fighting intent vanished instantly when they touched, replaced by calm… and endless possessiveness toward the man in front of her.
Heimdall could hardly believe it. Was this the Hela he knew?
The one who was either killing or on her way to kill?
Now holding a Midgardian's hand and enjoying it?
If he hadn't seen it himself, he'd think it was a dream.
Not that he'd ever slept.
"Right, right, right, we're here to see Father!" Thor jumped in. "Heimdall, we're going now!"
"When you contacted me, I already informed Odin, King of Gods."
Heimdall nodded toward Thor, motioning them to move.
Don't let Hela block the door.
They moved the Airbus aside to keep Asgard's gate clear.
Following Thor, they crossed the physical bridge from the Bifrost into Asgard, through towering golden arches.
Finally, they entered the lavish yet refined Asgard.
The guards stood still, but their shock was obvious.
They had never seen Midgardians set foot here alive.
In ancient times, Midgard warriors had fought alongside Asgardians, but they hadn't come to Asgard.
"My son, you never take my words to heart." Odin, on his throne, looked at Thor with his single eye, ignoring everyone else. "Mortals are not qualified to enter the divine realm of Asgard."
"And you, Father, you're still the same. What's the point of keeping up this so-called divine majesty?"
Hela released Dante's hand, walked forward, and stood between the group and the King of Gods.
"Speaking of which, it's been nearly two thousand years, hasn't it, Father?"
Odin stared at Hela. After a long silence, he sighed.
"Long time no see, daughter."
