Chapter 87: Let's Go to the Capital Together Later
The next day, awakened by his biological clock, Subaru Natsuki stood yawning on the courtyard lawn after washing up.
Yawning, Subaru glanced at Rem, who had also gotten up early like him.
Her expression was no different from usual. His mind involuntarily recalled what Rem had said last night.
A slight blush appeared on Subaru's face as he looked away and began stretching, saying,
"The weather is really nice today! It's a perfect time to exercise!"
"Yes, the weather is very nice today," Rem replied.
Listening to Rem's words beside him, Subaru's mood started to calm down.
After overthinking and being mentally restless last night, Subaru had now given up trying to find a solution. If he couldn't think of one, then he would just let things be.
"Rem, come do radio calisthenics with me."
"Radio calisthenics? Is that the kind of exercise you do when you're at the mansion?"
"Yeah, it's really fun and also helps to move the body.
Usually, you're always managing everything around the mansion and never have time to exercise with me. So let's take this chance to try it."
"Yes, as long as it's a request from Subaru-kun, Rem will definitely do it."
Subaru was a little stunned and said with a helpless smile,
"No, no, this isn't a request, it's an invitation! Don't get it wrong, Rem."
"It's Rem's fault. Then Rem accepts Subaru's invitation. But what should we do next?"
"It's simple, just copy the moves I do. Then, the capital's radio calisthenics officially begin!"
The two started doing the calisthenics, both wearing faint smiles while moving their bodies. The new movements were not too difficult for Rem.
Though she was a maid, she wasn't without any combat ability.
Although she hadn't done this before, just by watching Subaru's actions, she could replicate them perfectly.
The whole set didn't take very long and ended with both raising their arms high and shouting out loud.
Subaru turned to look at Rem smiling beside him and said,
"How is it? Isn't it fun? Doesn't it feel like you have energy for the whole day?"
Rem blinked, staring at Subaru's smiling face, her eyes becoming even softer and filled with happiness.
Since he came to the mansion, Subaru had worked hard and done his best.
No matter what the task was, big or small, he always did it seriously, and his smile never changed.
Even when for a period his face showed no smile, it was only temporary. When he was rescued, that same smile was on his face.
"Yes, it's very interesting. Meeting Subaru-kun is truly the happiest thing."
Subaru's eyes widened as he looked at the smile blossoming in the early morning sunlight. For a moment, his thoughts nearly stopped working.
"Oh, really? That's great." Turning his head, Subaru stretched his waist and moved his hands, purposely distracting himself so his attention wouldn't be completely on Rem.
"Hmm! As expected of Subaru-kun, coming up with such movements!"
"Wait a moment, Rem-san. These moves weren't my idea. They're exercises from my hometown."
"Is that so? Then it's no wonder they're from Subaru-kun's hometown, coming up with such moves!"
"No matter what, they're related to me... Well, whatever." Subaru shook his head helplessly, then reached down to pick up the wooden sword from the ground.
The formal exercise was about to begin. The wooden sword had been handed to him by one of the maids earlier in the morning.
As for the books, he hadn't seen them yet, but they should arrive today, so it wouldn't be too boring in the evening.
Shaking off other thoughts, Subaru closed his eyes under Rem's gaze, took a deep breath, and began swinging the wooden sword.
Time passed by steadily. More people started coming and going around the mansion, but none of them concerned Subaru who was focused on his sword practice.
"Good morning, Maid-san, Subaru."
"Good morning, Lord Felix."
"Really, Rem-san, you don't have to address me that way. Just call me Felix."
"Rem understands."
After saying this, Rem stopped talking and focused seriously on watching Subaru swing the sword.
For Rem, as long as it was Subaru, whatever he did was worth watching.
Noticing this, Felix looked at Rem with a strange expression, then shifted his gaze to Subaru and casually asked,
"By the way, has Subaru always been like this?"
"Felix, which aspect do you mean?"
"Well, various aspects... I don't really know Subaru well, so maybe, Rem-san, you could tell me about Subaru?"
Rem glanced at Felix.
Her expression made Felix laugh as he explained,
"Don't look at me like I'm a rival. Although Subaru-kun is very charming, I'm a man. Besides, my heart already belongs to Crush-sama."
Hearing this, Rem looked at Felix seriously.
It was hard to see any trace of masculinity in Felix dressed in a dress. But she still began talking about Subaru's strengths.
For Rem, promoting Subaru's merits so everyone understands how excellent he was was important. During Rem's narration, Felix's gaze toward her started to feel a bit off.
Because even some of Subaru's clear flaws became strengths in her eyes, and the tone she used was like a girlfriend boasting about how great her boyfriend was.
"Rem-san really likes Subaru-kun."
"Yes, I like him the most in the world," Rem said without hesitation, expressing her feelings clearly.
At that moment, Subaru stopped swinging the sword and was about to turn around to greet Felix, but Rem took a handkerchief and came over to him.
Without saying a word, Subaru understood what she meant, thanked her, and took the handkerchief to wipe the sweat off his forehead.
"Good morning, Felix."
"You're really diligent, Subaru, but it's time to have breakfast now. Also, though exercise is good for recovery, you have to do it in moderation."
"Yes, I understand. Then Rem and I will go eat."
After a brief exchange with Felix, Rem and Subaru left the courtyard.
Walking toward the dining hall, Subaru glanced at Rem and, after a moment of silence, said,
"Um, Rem... want to go for a walk in the capital with me after we eat?"
"Gladly."
