Chapter 58 - Massacre (3)

[OK.. There has been slight mistake in the chapter. I missed the counting. Only 3 Death eaters should have been alive but this scene has 4 of them alive. By the time, I realised it I have gotten far ahead in the story and hence did not edit it. Enjoy as it is.]

Reinhart's eyes hardened as fear clawed at him, his gaze locked on Antonio. The man had been there even before they had entered the room, yet none of them had spotted him.

Clearly, Antonio had made masterful use of both invisibility and disillusionment charms. What a fine wizard he was. And a dangerous one too.

Not that Reinhart was unaware. Any doubts he might had had been crushed in the Wizengamot that very day. Reinhart vividly remembered what had happened in the arena. The sight of Alicus Marius impaled on the platform as his body hung in the air was not something he was going to forget for a long time.

"Antonio Olario," he muttered through gritted teeth.

Antonio smirked back, flashing his white teeth. At that moment, the closet door creaked open and Edmund Bones stepped out. He waved his wand and the room lit up brightly.

"Hiding in a closet is not something I would love to do again, Lord Olario," he said as he came to stand beside Antonio.

"But killing another of these," he said gesturing towards the death eaters, "I would love to do it once again."

Four Death Eaters against the two of them. Yet every gut in that room told the same story, the smaller side held the advantage. Only because of Antonio Olario. Not to forget, that Amelia was outside the room and could come at any moment.

"Now that you are about to die," Edmund said, his eyes fixed coldly on Reinhart, "why do not you remove that mask of yours and let us see who you are?"

Reinhart harrumphed. There was only one chance at survival. Escape. The Dark Lord would not be pleased now that he failed to accomplish his mission, but surely, he would not kill him. Better to live with punishment than die here. He also held the consideration that if he died here, his identity would be revealed and this would throw a lot of dirt on the Lestrange name.

His body began to coalesce into black mist as he tried to apparate. His comrades followed his lead. But in a heartbeat, realization dawned upon them when they failed. They could not apparate. The wards were preventing them.

"You… you—" Reinhart screeched through clenched teeth. "The wards were never truly breached… you lured us in and then closed them again!"

Antonio chuckled.

"Did you really think it would be that easy to escape?" He spoke. "Your friends had been lucky enough to escape from me once. I do not make the same mistake twice."

Rage overtook Reinhart. He had no choice left. His wand snapped up and a Killing Curse streaked toward Antonio. This man was the root of all his misery in the past few days. He had humiliated Rodolphus, then killed two of the Death Eaters, and left his son punished by the Dark Lord. Now Reinhart had been sent to redeem himself with this very attack.

Antonio, almost nonchalant, levitated a pillow from the sofa and blocked the curse.

"You all have only one option left," Antonio said with a wicked smile. "Death."

All four death eaters sprang into motion at the same time. Since they could not run away, the only chance of survival they had was to kill Antonio. Four more spells left their wands, all of them aimed directly at Antonio.

Antonio very comfortably summoned a shield and neutralised all the spells without even breaking a sweat. Meanwhile, Edmund was not one to be a spectator. He too moved in a swift motion as a spell left his wand, targeting one of the death eaters.

But Edmund's spell was not as fast as Antonio's, and at the last moment the death eater managed to sidestep, the spell narrowly passing by him.

They were getting ready for another round when Antonio was upon them. He whipped his wand. The shield vanished and then he jabbed his wand in one quick and fluid motion. A spell shot out from his wand targeting the same death eater who had just avoided Edmund's strike. This time the man was not prepared for another spell and he did not even have a chance to react before Antonio's spell found its mark on his chest.

The man screamed in pain as a fist sized gaping hole opened on the centre of his chest. Blood oozed from that large wound and with a final and painful scream the death eater collapsed lifeless to the ground. Another one down.

Reinhart gritted his teeth. He could feel death closing in with every passing moment. Three more spells flew from their side, but again Antonio raised his shield and brushed them aside.

Reinhart did not relent this time. He fired spell after spell in quick succession, at least half a dozen, while his comrades too contributed.

But they could do no harm. It was too easy for Antonio to swat them away, neutralise them with shields, or simply sidestep. Even when they fired Killing Curses, Antonio blocked them by levitating objects from all around the room into their path.

Antonio was dealing with most of the spells himself, but Edmund was no slouch either. He was at least on par with Reinhart, if not better. In one of those tense exchanges, a cutting curse from Edmund struck true, severing another death eater cleanly.

Two versus two, was what Reinhart thought. He was about to unleash his final barrage of strike when there was a sizzling sound from his behind. He instinctively turned around only to see Amelia standing at the entrance with her wand raised in air.

The head of his only remaining partner was blasted open. Amelia had used a bombarda, taking cue from Antonio who had used this very same spell from behind the window. The gore and blood and chunks of flesh and brain splattered Reinhart's already dirty robes.

Showcasing his back to Antonio was the last mistake he did in this life as a cutting curse from Antonio severed Reinhart's neck off his shoulder.

"Sorry for destroying your manor, Lord Bones," Antonio said light heartedly.

"Do not worry. It will be cleaned and organised in no time," Edmund replied as he walked towards Amelia who looked pale. Technically though she had killed earlier, few moments ago, she had only activated the spell. But this time, her spell had blasted open the head.

"I have never seen someone to blast the head of their enemy as their first kill," he laughed as he approached his daughter to comfort her.

Antonio kept quiet and gave the father daughter duo their time. Once she had calmed, he would want to see the faces of the death eaters. Of those whose had survived. Head of the two of death eaters had been blasted and their identity could only be confirmed by their possession. He also had to discuss what the response from Edmund was going to be. This was a really big incident and the entire Wizarding Britain was sure to erupt in an uproar when they learnt of this.
