A few weeks later, the world looked different.
Not because it had changed, but because I had.
The honeymoon had been everything Jace promised. With long mornings wrapped in his arms, quiet walks by the sea, stolen kisses that made the rest of the world disappear, the best sex we've ever had. I didn't realize how much I needed that time until it ended. For the first time in years, there was no fear in the background, no tension waiting around the corner. Just… peace. Real, ordinary peace.
But eventually, even paradise had to end.
And so we came back.
The jet landed in Los Angeles early on a Thursday morning. The sky was a soft, cloudless blue. It was probably the kind that felt like an omen for good things. I wasn't sure. I pressed my forehead against the window, watching as the familiar skyline came into view.
Home.
