Chapter 246 - Chapter 246: The Overconfident Obito Uchiha

Zetsu heard that Obito Uchiha intended to block Chinya and Minato Namikaze on his own, and thought Obito was starting to get a little too full of himself lately.

Leaving aside Chinya for now, even facing Minato alone would be a tough challenge for Obito.

His Intangibility technique definitely had its weaknesses. Both Chinya and Minato were top-level experts who'd survived the brutal combat of The Third Great Ninja World War—both renowned for their extreme speed.

Obito's recent operations might have gone too smoothly, causing him to misjudge his own strength.

White Zetsu said to Obito Uchiha, "Since you've already made your decision, I won't say more. However, you should also prepare contingency plans. If you fail to stop Chinya and Minato Namikaze, what will you do then? So I think you need to find a way to get one of these two people not to attack you."

Obito looked curiously at Zetsu, "Get one of them not to attack me? Right now I'm pretending to be Madara Uchiha. And since I'm invading Konoha, how could they possibly choose not to attack me?"

Zetsu suggested, "I think you could strike a deal with Chinya, because Chinya isn't loyal to Konoha, and has significant conflicts with Minato Namikaze. He's someone who always seeks personal gain. As long as we can offer enough payment, it's possible Chinya might just stand by and do nothing."

The reason Zetsu proposed this to Obito was mainly out of concern—if Obito went to Konoha, he might end up getting torn apart by Minato and Chinya together.

Although Chinya had an agreement with Madara Uchiha—he would help conceal Obito's identity and even assist him—there's no telling whether Chinya spoke truthfully or not.

The agreement between Chinya and Madara Uchiha was completely meaningless in terms of legal obligation.

Zetsu also hoped this could teach Obito a lesson, so he could recognize his true capabilities.

After hearing Zetsu's words, Obito fell into deep thought.

Previously, Chinya had told him something—that Chinya believed in his future potential, thought he'd someday reach the peak of the Shinobi World, and even said that if he ever needed help with anything in the future, he could come seeking cooperation—as long as he could pay accordingly.

From Obito's perspective, Chinya indeed lived up to Zetsu's description: disloyal to Konoha, and in major conflict with Minato Namikaze. There was real possibility for cooperation.

"But then..." Obito frowned. "We don't really have anything worth offering Chinya in return for cooperation."

Zetsu shrugged slightly and replied, "Whatever payment it may be, shouldn't we first figure out what Chinya wants? Maybe the payment Chinya desires is exactly what we happen to have?"

Obito thought for a moment.

If Chinya could simply stand by and watch, then releasing the Nine-Tails to attack Konoha would naturally go much smoother.

Obito gave a slight nod. "Alright, let's go have a chat with Chinya."

Seeing that Obito agreed, Zetsu continued asking, "What about Nagato? Should you inform him of this plan?"

Obito Uchiha paused for a moment before saying, "We should still let him know. Nagato doesn't trust us. You go talk to him so he won't cause me trouble later. After you come back and find me, we can head toward Konoha together. Besides, I also need to make some arrangements here in Mist Village."

Zetsu nodded. "Then I'll leave now."

After Zetsu left, he didn't immediately head to Amegakure to meet Nagato. Instead, he went toward Konoha to find Chinya.

Zetsu needed to determine where Chinya stood. If Chinya was willing to honor the agreement, that would be best.

If Chinya planned to break the deal, then he'd have to stop Obito Uchiha's plan.

As for safety, there was no concern—Black Zetsu, being an embodiment of Kaguya's will, was immortal, so Zetsu had no fear of Chinya whatsoever.

...

Inside the Hokage's office in Konoha.

Hiruzen Sarutobi approached Minato Namikaze and said, "Minato, regarding Uzumaki Miyuki's upcoming childbirth, I think we should hold a meeting to discuss it carefully."

Minato frowned. "Third... is that really necessary? I know sealing techniques, and according to Anbu reports, Chinya has already returned to Konoha. I was planning to ask him for help. If the Nine-Tails ever goes out of control, I can use a sealing technique again to reseal it. Even if something unexpected happens, Chinya's Mangekyo Sharingan can control the Nine-Tails."

Hiruzen's expression turned serious. "Minato, don't take chances. We must treat this matter with utmost seriousness—it concerns not just you personally, but the whole village. We need to prepare the safest possible measures."

After hearing what Hiruzen said, Minato could only agree. "Should we start the meeting now or later?"

Hiruzen replied, "Now. I'll go call them over. Minato, please have the Anbu notify Chinya. Let's discuss this in the Meeting Room."

Minato nodded. "I understand."

Hiruzen left, and Minato sighed deeply.

The thought of so many people hovering around during Uzumaki Miyuki's delivery really unsettled him—anyone would feel nervous under such circumstances.

But there was no helping it—as a jinchuriki, Miyuki's condition meant these precautions were unavoidable.

At Chinya's home.

Chinya, wearing an apron, held a spatula in the hand that usually gripped a kunai—a ninja throwing knife.

"Kushina, dinner will be ready soon. We can eat shortly."

"Okay."

Uzumaki Kushina turned off the TV. As she started to rise from the sofa, someone knocked on the door.

Chinya frowned.

At this time of day, Kakashi wouldn't have finished work yet.

Since he wanted to care for Uzumaki Kushina, Chinya had no interest in dealing with Konoha Defense Force affairs anymore, leaving Kakashi to temporarily act as captain.

Earlier that afternoon, when Chinya visited Orochimaru, it had been clearly stated the next checkup wouldn't be for another five days.

It couldn't be Kakashi or Orochimaru at this hour—so who on earth could it be?

Chinya walked over and opened the door. He was surprised to see Minato Namikaze standing there.

Hiruzen Sarutobi had asked Minato Namikaze to send an Anbu to summon Chinya for a meeting, but Minato believed it was better to come in person, as he would need Chinya's assistance later on.

Seeing Chinya wearing an apron and holding a spatula, Minato almost thought he'd come to the wrong place — the image just didn't match at all.

Shaking off his surprise, Minato gave a smile and said, "Long time no see, Chinya."

Chinya nodded and asked directly, "What do you want?"

Minato said, "Me and the Third are getting ready for a top-level meeting, so I came personally to invite you. It's about Miyuki."

Confused, Chinya asked, "Why do you need me at your meeting? Lady Biwako told me about this earlier today. If you're asking for my help, I'll assist, but as for attending that meeting itself, forget it."

Hearing from Minato that it involved Miyuki, and knowing that Chinya had already offered his help, Kushina Uzumaki immediately figured out what it was about.

Also worried about the safety of her fellow clanswoman Miyuki Uzumaki, Kushina said, "Chinya, you should go to the meeting. Since Miyuki needs our help, discussing it together could reduce some risks, even just a little."

Since Kushina had already spoken up, Chinya had no choice but to agree.

"Fine, let me dish out the food first. You eat first."

Without paying any attention to Minato by the door, Chinya dished out the food, set the plates on the table, and gently helped Kushina Uzumaki take a seat.

After finishing everything, Chinya took off the apron and walked to the door where Minato still stood frozen, saying, "Let's go. Hurry up. The faster we get this done, the better."
