Two months flew by in the blink of an eye.
Chinya was enjoying his position in the Konoha Defense Unit immensely.
He simply handed everything over to his subordinates, while money kept flowing steadily into his pockets—it was absolutely perfect.
Though his income wasn't as high as that first incredible week, it had now stabilized. On average, he earned several hundred thousand to over a million ryo per day.
In just sixty days—two months—he had already made more than fifty million ryo just from collecting bail money.
That's worth more than one and a half bounties on Asuma Sarutobi—no joke.
This also gave Chinya further insight into just how wealthy the Uchiha Clan really was.
Chinya could tell too—Fugaku Uchiha occasionally intentionally sent people for him to detain, only for their bail money to arrive immediately afterward.
Sometimes the suspects hadn't even been placed inside jail cells before the payment arrived.
Chinya naturally understood Fugaku Uchiha's intentions.
Fugaku wanted stability; Chinya wanted money.
Now, they were practically developing mutual understanding.
In these two months, Chinya recruited twenty standard ninja operatives, though about five or six resigned midway.
Why? They were scared of retaliation from the Uchiha Clan and decided to back out early.
But right now, Chinya had no shortage of personnel. Thanks to the Konoha Defense Unit's generous benefits, and with Uchiha ninja keeping their distance when seeing defense unit members patrol, becoming part of this unit had become a badge of honor.
Nowadays, people were practically throwing themselves at the door just to join the Konoha Defense Unit—but still couldn't find a way in.
As for Shisui Uchiha, his campaign to assist his clansmen ended after just a few days.
The reason was simple: every time Shisui left to help his relatives, Chinya took the opportunity to establish numerous internal policies within the unit.
Of course, these weren't official Konoha regulations, but rather internal rules specific to the Defense Unit.
Furthermore, Chinya unilaterally appointed all squad leaders—choosing Root Division members without hesitation.
When Shisui confronted Chinya about it, Chinya replied in a way that left Shisui completely stunned.
"My answer is simple," Chinya said. "I couldn't find you anywhere, so how could we work together to set any rules? For the smooth operation of the Konoha Defense Unit, with the deputy commander absent, I had no choice but to take the initiative myself."
From that day forward, Shisui stuck to the Defense Unit like glue, not daring to leave for even a moment—he was terrified Chinya might pull some other sneaky stunt again.
Orochimaru turned into a complete shut-in for two full months, not so much as stepping outside the Base.
If Chinya hadn't known Orochimaru was conducting research, he might've thought Orochimaru had gone missing.
At the same time, Minato Namikaze was quietly expanding his own influence.
He had started reforming the Anbu organization.
Minato promoted his trusted allies to become Anbu Captains and planned to select candidates for Anbu Chief and Deputy Chief positions from among them.
Danzo remained relatively quiet during this time—mostly because there was no stage for him to operate on.
On Minato Namikaze's side, with Hiruzen Sarutobi supporting him, Danzo couldn't find any opportunity to undermine him.
Meanwhile, with Chinya keeping the Uchiha Clan in check, all Danzo could do was monitor them.
Now, the Konoha Defense Unit had essentially become Chinya's personal domain and was running smoothly.
Chinya also prepared to head to Ryuchi Cave to cultivate Sage Art.
After work let out in the evening, Chinya invited Kakashi, who had just returned from a mission, to walk home together.
At dinner, Chinya told Kushina Uzumaki and Kakashi, "Kushina, Kakashi, I'll be leaving for a while."
Kushina asked curiously, "Is it a new mission?"
Chinya shook his head. "No, I'm planning to visit Ryuchi Cave to learn Sage Mode."
Kushina tilted her head thoughtfully before suddenly realizing, "Oh! You told me about this before."
Chinya nodded. "Right. Now that the Konoha Defense Unit has stabilized, and everything else is mostly done, I can use this free time to learn Sage Art at Ryuchi Cave. As for the Defense Unit, Kakashi, I hope you can keep an eye on things there."
Upon hearing Chinya's words, Kakashi accidentally inhaled some food into his airway and began coughing violently.
Both Chinya and Kushina simultaneously extended their hands and gave Kakashi's back a forceful slap.
"Phew!"
The food stuck in Kakashi's trachea flew out.
But Kakashi felt like he'd lost half his life—the slap still stung like hell. There were definitely two red handprints on his back by now!
He probably would've been better off just coughing it up on his own!
After recovering slightly, Kakashi hesitated, "Sensei, all I know is combat. I don't understand anything else. How can I possibly watch over the Konoha Defense Unit for you?"
Chinya smiled as he replied, "Precisely because you know nothing, this will be the perfect opportunity to train yourself. If you're good at fighting but lack political insight, people will see you as nothing more than a weapon. And you wouldn't even notice when someone plots against you. You can lack tricks up your sleeve, but never depth of mind.
Take my second-in-command, Shisui Uchiha—he used to have no guile and was far too straightforward. I kept him completely under control, and neither he nor his Uchiha Clan could do anything about it.
My strength was indeed something they feared, but more importantly, they knew challenging me came at a serious cost—they were even more terrified of my methods.
Now after being suppressed by me for two months, Shisui has grown significantly. He'll make a great training partner for you to develop your own abilities."
Kakashi still looked concerned, asking, "Sensei, what if things go wrong?"
Chinya shrugged indifferently, "If things fall apart, then so be it. Worst case, I'll just scrap the whole Konoha Defense Unit. After all, it was originally created as a tool to counter the Uchiha Clan. I can always find another way to do that."
Kakashi twitched beneath his mask—his teacher really was carefree indeed. The hottest department in Konoha these days, and he could casually discard it like that.
Chinya continued, "Just follow my approach when running the Konoha Defense Unit and everything'll go smoothly. Don't worry, I've got your back, so just go for it."
Since Chinya had said that, Kakashi replied, "I understand. I'll do my best, Chinya-sensei."
Kushina Uzumaki asked, "Chinya, how long will you be away at Ryuchi Cave?"
Chinya thought for a moment and answered, "Not sure exactly. Depends on my progress cultivating Sage Mode. Probably a few months or so."
Kushina sighed, "Aww, we'll be apart for such a long time again. C'mon, Chinya, don't slack off! How about leaving today and coming back tomorrow?"
Chinya gave a helpless smile. "It can't possibly be that fast. All I can say is I'll try my best to hurry back. Alright, I'm done eating. Gotta tell Orochimaru-sensei before heading out to Ryuchi Cave. I'll go now."
Chinya left home and made his way to Orochimaru's hideout.
