Chapter 353 - Absolute Demonic Front!

Chapter 5: Absolute Demonic Front!

"Rooaaar…"

"Awooo…"

"Roar…"

Countless magical beasts surged forward like an endless sea, all moving toward a single destination.

Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia.

The final defensive line of humanity.

Facing the relentless onslaught of magical beasts that hammered the city without pause, this was the last fortress still standing in human hands—the Northern Wall of the Uruk Dynasty.

Most of the magical beasts charging from below were creatures Akira had already encountered before.

Uridimmu—their name meant mad dogs or dreadful hunting hounds.

And Mušhuššu—serpents of terror and wrath. Their front legs resembled those of lions, their hind legs like the talons of eagles. Their bodies, necks, and heads were wrapped in snake-like scales. Their long tails ended in deadly scorpion stingers.

In myth, they were the children of Tiamat, the Mother of Creation.

Now, these ferocious magical beasts gathered in massive hordes, launching wave after wave of attacks against Uruk, without rest, without mercy.

As time passed, the once-vast territory of the Uruk Dynasty began to crumble. One city after another fell. Meanwhile, the number of magical beasts only continued to grow, stretching endlessly beyond the horizon.

"Bang…"

At one of the slaughter points along the Northern Wall, small gaps had been deliberately left behind the fortifications—just wide enough for spears or other weapons to stab through, allowing soldiers to strike from relative safety.

But under the fearless and unrelenting assault of the magical beasts, the wall—never truly sturdy to begin with—finally gave way.

An Uridimmu broke through.

The defense line had been breached.

"Attack! Attack now! Don't let it push any further in!"

"Kill it—!"

"Fix the wall, hurry!"

"Yes! Repair it right now!"

The breach didn't cause panic.

Everyone moved immediately, carrying out their assigned roles.

This kind of thing happened all the time.

They were human, after all—weak by nature. Compared to these magical beasts, the gap in strength was simply too vast.

But for the sake of protecting their homeland, for the sake of not disappointing their King, every single person here steeled their resolve, swearing to hold this line no matter what.

"Rooaaar…"

The Uridimmu that had broken through let out a deafening roar.

Around it, seven or eight Uruk soldiers tightened their grips on their spears, eyes locked onto the beast, ready to strike at any moment.

The monster suddenly lunged.

It moved like a blur.

Human reaction speed couldn't keep up.

In the blink of an eye, one soldier was bitten at the neck. The beast's sharp fangs pierced straight through his flesh.

Though the spears of the other soldiers immediately skewered the Uridimmu and brought it down, the wounded man was already beyond saving.

Blood spilled across the ground, soaking into the dust.

But no one had time to mourn.

They returned to their positions at once, continuing their desperate struggle and hunt against the magical beasts.

Were they sad?

Of course they were.

Comrades who had lived and fought side by side—how could they not grieve for them? Especially in a place where death could arrive at any moment.

But they didn't have the luxury to drown in sorrow.

Protecting their homeland and holding back the magical beasts—that was their duty.

For the sake of their families.

A thunderous crash echoed in the distance.

At one of the reinforced defense points farther away, an entire section of the wall collapsed.

A massive flood of magical beasts poured through the opening.

The moment a weak point appeared, every nearby monster instinctively rushed toward it.

Never assume magical beasts were nothing more than mindless animals.

Their intelligence far surpassed that of ordinary creatures.

"What's going on? How did the defense get breached?"

At that moment, a towering general wearing a helmet and a crimson cloak on his back charged onto the scene.

With sweeping thrusts of his spear, he cut down magical beasts one after another, forcing the chaotic situation back under control.

Leonidas. The King of Sparta.

In the future, he would be remembered for the Battle of Thermopylae—where, with only three hundred warriors, he stood against a Persian army numbering in the hundreds of thousands.

The numbers, the sacrifice, and the outcome of that battle would become a legend that defied common sense.

Three hundred against hundreds of thousands.

A gap so wide it felt impossible.

And yet, that was exactly why the story became an epic, forever cementing Leonidas's name in history.

"Lord Leonidas! A section of the wall has collapsed!"

"Then fix it immediately!"

"We're out of building materials! Until reinforcements arrive, we can't repair it!"

"Damn it! Everyone, forward! We'll block the gap ourselves!"

Leonidas roared his command.

The advance of the magical beasts had to be stopped.

If they broke through, it would turn into a true catastrophe.

Their speed in slaughtering humans was far too fast, and ordinary soldiers barely had the strength to resist.

That was why—even if they had to use their own bodies to plug the breach—they had to hold the line.

If they didn't, even more people would die.

"Yaa!"

"Hold the gap, Lord Leonidas!"

"Understood!"

"Everyone, move together!"

No one retreated.

No one dodged.

No one refused.

The nearest soldiers rushed to the breach.

The front line raised their shields. The back line lifted their spears.

Every magical beast that charged in was met with a storm of stabbing spearpoints.

"Rooaaar…"

"Bang…"

At first, the defense held.

The magical beasts couldn't push through and were cut down one after another.

But human stamina had its limits.

Strength and endurance weren't infinite.

A monstrous claw suddenly tore through the line, ripping apart one of the soldiers on the outer edge.

The soldiers behind him struggled to reform their formation and continue the fight.

But reality was cruel.

At this close range, the magical beasts were far stronger than human soldiers.

And behind them, even more waves of monsters kept coming, without end.

"Soldiers, don't be afraid! Kill the enemy with me!"

At that moment, Leonidas stepped forward.

With a single, powerful thrust of his spear, he instantly slew a magical beast.

The monsters that followed met the same fate, cut down one by one.

Even so, two soldiers were gravely wounded.

One had his leg shattered.

Another took a brutal blow to the chest, his body going limp.

They could no longer remain on the front line and had to be carried to the rear, where they would take on other duties.

Uruk did not keep those who served no purpose.

Everyone here had value.

Whether a soldier, a civilian, or a general.

This was the reality of the nation called the Kingdom of Uruk.

Everyone had their place.

Everyone had their role.

Even when forced to retreat to the back lines, they would still be given something to do.

In this Mesopotamian world, every person carried a different kind of worth.

And all of it mattered.
