"Freya, you need to brace yourself for backlash when you return home. Be ready for anything," my aunt warned me over the phone, her voice heavy with concern.
"I understand. I'll be back tomorrow evening, and the day after I'll come see you and Grandma for the New Year celebration."
"Don't rush yourself. Grandma knows work keeps you busy. Just rest when you get back," she said gently.
"Alright, talk to you later, Aunt."
After ending the call, I turned to Mack Ben and let out a weary sigh. "The Tristan Family knows exactly who filed that report against them. They also know you're going after them because of me."
Mack took my hand with casual indifference, absently playing with my fingers as if my concerns were trivial.
I pulled my hand away and gave him a light smack. "Are you even paying attention to what I'm saying?"
His lips curved into a smile. "Every word."
