Freya's POV
Standing there watching his tall silhouette, the few meters between us felt like an ocean I could never cross.
Mira Tristan had played her cards perfectly. While her scheme hadn't damaged me directly, it had planted enough doubt in the Ben family's minds. Mrs. Ben probably saw me as nothing but trouble now.
Mack finished his phone conversation and motioned for me to join him in the car.
I remained rooted to the spot. "Go home without me. I can catch a cab from here."
Making him drive across town to drop me off before returning home would waste hours. Mrs. Ben was likely waiting up for him.
His expression darkened. "I'm not in any hurry. I'll drive you back first."
"Really, it's unnecessary." I tried pushing him toward the vehicle. "Just go."
His irritation became obvious. Without warning, he grabbed my arm and practically hauled me into the car.
I had no choice but to let him drive.
Halfway through the journey, his phone buzzed again.
