Freya's POV
Katie shot me a knowing look, her eyebrows dancing with mischief. "The way Bonnie talks, it sounds like you and Mr. Ben are getting pretty serious."
"That's not true at all." The denial came out faster than I intended, my heart knowing full well that nothing had truly begun between us.
"Bonnie, pick whatever you want from the menu. My treat today." I slid the leather-bound menu across the table, desperate to shift the conversation away from dangerous territory.
Katie mentioned having errands to run but promised to return later. Once she disappeared into the bustling restaurant crowd, Bonnie's concerned gaze found mine.
"Are you upset that my brother took off on business without giving you a heads up?"
"Not at all."
The smile I gave her was genuine. Anger was the furthest thing from my mind.
"He was buried in work until the early hours. It must be something critical. I feel terrible even thinking about being mad at him."
