"Absolutely not." The words tumbled out before I could stop them, my voice sharp with surprise.
But Katie had been my closest friend for years. She caught the telltale flush creeping up my neck and grinned like a cat who'd caught a canary.
"Oh please, don't even try to deny it. After finally getting rid of that waste of space Tristan, you're having a romantic renaissance, aren't you?"
I clamped my mouth shut, but my cheeks were already burning. Whether from the crackling fireplace or my own embarrassment, I couldn't tell.
"Come on, spill everything. It's just us girls here." Katie scooted closer, practically vibrating with curiosity. "It's that gorgeous Mr. Ben, isn't it? I've seen you two together, and honey, the way that man looks at you could melt steel. Something's definitely happening between you two."
