Freya's POV
The tension inside the car was suffocating. None of us dared to break the silence that stretched between us like a taut wire.
Our son's peaceful breathing was the only sound filling the space as he slept deeply in his father's strong arms.
After what felt like an eternity, the car pulled up outside Valerie Victor's apartment building. I stepped out quickly, reaching for my child, but Mack pulled back.
"He's too heavy for you. I'll carry him up," he said, his voice low and decisive.
"That's really not necessary. I can manage," I protested, my pulse quickening.
Valerie would be at the office during the day. If Mack came upstairs with me while our son slept, we would be completely alone. The memory of those heated moments in the car made my skin flush. Something told me he might try something, and I wasn't sure I had the willpower to resist.
