"Mm."
I had hoped that by keeping Connor Clive quiet about this incident, Mack would remain blissfully unaware and free from worry.
But fate had other plans.
"Freya, you don't have to engage with her if you'd rather not." Mack's voice carried protective concern through the video call. He was clearly worried that Anya Porter might manipulate the situation or say something hurtful to me.
I brushed off his concern with casual confidence. "Don't worry about me. I'm not some pushover, and besides, didn't you assign Mr. Clive to watch over me? What could possibly go wrong?"
"Fair enough. It's your call to make. Just remember that Anya should be heading back home within days. She won't be lingering there much longer."
That made perfect sense.
Even someone as ambitious as her wouldn't dare spend New Year's working overseas. Her wealthy family would never tolerate their precious heiress missing the holiday celebrations.
The thought put me at ease.
