My feelings for Mack run deeper than simple admiration or gratitude. I genuinely respect him and want nothing but the best for his future.
That's exactly why I refuse to let anyone tarnish his reputation or damage his integrity, myself included.
Better to keep our connection undefined, maintaining this delicate balance while convincing myself we're nothing more than casual friends.
"How are things progressing with your family situation?" Mack's question interrupted my wandering thoughts as he and Bonnie began discussing my circumstances.
I gave a small nod. "Most of it's resolved now. My father's behind bars, and the evidence against him is solid. According to my attorney, he'll definitely face legal consequences. The only question is how long his sentence will be. But regardless of the outcome, he's lost everything overnight."
The tax penalties alone could leave him drowning in debt for the rest of his life, I thought to myself.
