Freya's POV
I watched Hazel White with a mixture of amusement and exasperation.
Those crocodile tears were quite the performance. Where had all that arrogance gone when she was screaming at my grandmother minutes ago? Now that the police were involved, she was suddenly the helpless victim.
Though I suspected this little show was really for Mack Ben's benefit. She knew he was the one behind the Tristan Family's downfall. If she wanted to escape this mess or reduce her punishment, she needed Mack to show mercy.
But she had completely misjudged him. Mack Ben had more integrity than I did.
"You brought this on yourselves. Putting profit over human lives - it's better that the Tristan Family fell before they could do worse damage." Mack's voice was cold and unforgiving.
Hazel stared at him in shock, her tears drying up as rage took over. "Mack Ben, how dare a young man like you speak to me this way? You have no right to lecture me!"
