Freya's POV
Mack Ben was furious with me.
No matter how desperately I tried to soothe his anger, he refused to acknowledge my existence. He pulled on his clothes with sharp, deliberate movements and headed straight for the door.
I couldn't let him walk away. Swallowing every ounce of pride I had left, I threw myself at him.
"Mack, you need to think this through. If you walk out that door right now, I swear I'll never see you again. Think carefully about what you're doing."
Two could play the threatening game.
We both knew exactly how deep we'd carved ourselves into each other's hearts. We understood how impossible it would be to take another step forward together.
He was just wounded. Devastated and unwilling to accept reality.
The moment I wrapped my arms around him from behind, his entire body began to shake. His breathing became ragged, chest rising and falling in uneven waves, tremors running through his frame.
My heart shattered watching him fall apart.
