Chapter 104: Whose Disciple Attacked Konoha?
"Teaching ninjutsu to foreign shinobi without authorization—that's a betrayal of the village!"
Danzo leaned heavily on his cane, trembling with rage.
But as his eyes drifted to the towering figure in the sky shown in the video, an overwhelming sense of fear nearly made him cry out.
He immediately fell silent, not daring to move again.
He remembered when he first discovered the Akatsuki. At the time, he feared their growing influence, especially because their ideology ran counter to his own. When they began operating near the Land of Fire, he tried to destroy them.
Who would have thought that the red-haired brat had the Rinnegan?
The legendary eyes of the Sage.
Damn it. If Jiraiya hadn't taught them ninjutsu, Danzo could've taken the Rinnegan without effort. Then, once he embedded them in his chest… even someone like Uchiha Sasuke could be killed with his shirt off.
There wouldn't have been any of the disasters that followed—no loss of Wood Release, no loss of the Sharingan.
"It's all your fault, Jiraiya!"
Danzo's expression remained blank, but his clenched teeth ground audibly, loud enough for even the Root agents behind him to hear.
He shot a venomous glare at Jiraiya, forcing his hatred deep down inside.
The video ended,
The image froze on four frog-shaped plaques.
"When the day our dreams come true arrives, even if we're far apart, we must return here and offer our blessings together."
"We'll definitely invite Master Jiraiya then."
"Of course we will!"
It was a heartwarming scene. No one had expected that Jiraiya of the legendary Sannin had taken in civilians from the Land of Rain as disciples.
Just as everyone was waiting for the question to appear, the screen lit up again.
[Second Video Playback Begins]
The second video related to Hiruzen Sarutobi and his time nurturing the Sannin during their youth.
[Third Video Playback Begins]
This one featured the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, and his time with his own students.
[Fourth Video Playback Begins]
Finally, the video turned to Iwagakure. Onoki was shown teaching Deidara and Kurotsuchi, speaking of the Will of Stone. Despite the squabbling, the deep bond between master and students was evident.
Just as everyone grew more confused, the question finally appeared.
[Question: Up to the appearance of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, whose disciple attacked Konoha?]
Jiraiya's disciple
b. Hiruzen Sarutobi's disciple
c. Minato Namikaze's disciple
d. Onoki "Two Scales"'s disciple
Once the question was revealed, a heavy tension descended on the Kage viewing platform.
Hiruzen gave Onoki a sharp look and asked coldly, "Tsuchikage, your disciple attacked Konoha? I expect an explanation."
At the same time, he silently felt grateful for little Naruto's luck, which triggered this Golden Critical Hit.
Thanks to it, they could uncover Iwagakure's involvement in the attack ahead of time.
If only they knew when it would happen.
Anyone with a brain could see the answer had to be the last one—no need to overthink.
While there was some concern about Jiraiya's disciples being from another village, the bright optimism of the blond kid and the redhead's admiration for him made it unlikely they'd go against Jiraiya's will to attack Konoha.
As for Hiruzen's own disciple… Orochimaru was a possible suspect. But given his current strength, without village schematics, he couldn't breach Konoha's defenses alone—eliminated.
Minato's disciples, Rin and Obito, had both died for Konoha. Kakashi would never betray the village either.
So, after ruling out all the wrong choices, only one remained.
"Jiraiya? That's the pervy old man, right?"
Naruto pouted, mimicking Shikaku's thought process. "Pervy Sage is a Konoha ninja. He wouldn't attack the village. Gramps is the Hokage—his students wouldn't attack the village. Minato-sensei is the Fourth Hokage—he wouldn't either. I choose the last one."
Simple and straightforward logic.
But no one laughed, because they were thinking the same thing.
This question didn't require thinking—it was practically a free Resurrection Coin.
They were tired of saying the word "envy."
[Incorrect Answer]
"Wrong? It wasn't Iwagakure that attacked Konoha?"
"That brat Deidara defected from Iwagakure ages ago! He has nothing to do with our village anymore. Anyone who dares to slander Iwagakure—let's see if you can survive my Dust Release!"
Onoki spoke righteously.
So it wasn't Iwagakure?
Everyone looked bewildered.
Which meant… Konoha was attacked by its own shinobi? That was certainly unexpected.
But understandable. After all, Hiruzen did raise an S-class rogue ninja like Orochimaru. If the village got attacked, it was just karmic retribution.
"I choose Hiruzen Sarutobi's disciple—Orochimaru."
One player rushed to answer,
While the others cursed his sneakiness, glaring at the Kusagakure ninja who answered first.
[Incorrect Answer]
Tch...
Everyone was baffled—it wasn't the rogue ninja Orochimaru?
After another wave of monster attacks, only a few hundred players remained in the Battle for the Title of Ninja God. The quickest to respond was Kankuro.
He said with certainty, "I choose Jiraiya's disciple. Their bond may seem strong, but they're from another village. It's possible they attacked Konoha for the sake of the Land of Rain."
Everyone nodded—solid reasoning.
[Incorrect Answer]
Tch...
All the Konoha shinobi in the arena couldn't help but turn their heads to the innocent-looking Kakashi.
Even Hiruzen Sarutobi looked utterly pained.
"Kakashi… I never expected it to be you!"
Might Guy let out a piercing wail, tears streaming down his face.
His lifelong rival, the one he always sought to surpass, the reason he developed techniques like Night Guy… Was it time to unleash that move now?
"I… It wasn't me…"
Kakashi visibly panicked and waved his hands.
Although his father's death had left him lost for a time, and he had once entertained dark thoughts, those days were long gone.
His friend Obito died for Konoha, entrusted him with the Sharingan, asked him to protect Rin. Though he failed her, all that remained now was the memorial stone carved with both their names.
He had never once thought of attacking Konoha.
"If not you, then what—Rin? Or Obito?"
Danzo slammed his cane in fury, wishing he could break out of prison and gouge out Kakashi's Sharingan right now.
"I choose Kakashi."
As players, eager to claim the prize, watched all the wrong answers get ruled out, they couldn't wait any longer.
Fang Yi felt a little regretful. He should've made it an auction—let the highest bidder answer.
[Incorrect Answer]
Chojuro stared in disbelief.
He could almost smell the Resurrection Coin's intoxicating aura… and now it was gone.
All four options were wrong?
Kakashi breathed a sigh of relief. "See? It wasn't me. Guy, calm down."
Shikaku frowned and muttered, "What if… this is a multiple-choice question?"
At those words,
Hiruzen's face froze, then turned to a bitter smile. So many traitors coveted Konoha.
"I choose Hiruzen Sarutobi's disciple Orochimaru, and Onoki 'Two Scales''s disciple Deidara!"
Temari gave her answer.
[Incorrect Answer]
If this really was a multiple-choice question, there were many possible combinations—but only a few made sense.
The least likely had to be options A, B, and C.
It made no sense for enemy Iwagakure to have stayed out of it while Konoha got stabbed in the back by its own people.
"I choose Jiraiya's disciple, and both the Third and Fourth Hokage's disciples—those who attacked Konoha."
Gaara, dark circles under his eyes, gave his answer.
Kankuro and Temari exchanged helpless glances.
They understood—this was Gaara's way of venting. The way their father treated Jinchūriki had been far too cruel.
It was just 200 reward points. They could afford it to help Gaara calm down.
There was no way it was right...
[Correct Answer]
What!?
Hiruzen's old face turned bright red, almost purple, and he felt like he was in a dream.
He sat upright, eyes forward, not daring to glance around.
