"I won't give you another chance! Starfall!"
Kanos Atlas had no intention of letting Yermak recover. His body rapidly expanded to giant size, the markings on his face curling upward to converge at his forehead.
The thick muscles along his back shifted and merged, forming the image of a demonic face, while waves of steaming heat radiated from his body.
The battered Yermak slowly rose from the thick cloud layer beneath him—only for his Observation Haki to suddenly register a black object hurtling toward him at incredible speed.
Before he could identify it, the object smashed straight through the cloud cover with bone-crushing force. A waterspout tens of meters high erupted upward, slamming into Yermak's position.
He narrowly evaded the direct hit, but there was no sense of relief—only cold sweat beading on his forehead. Even without a clean strike, his left arm hung limp at his side, pain stabbing through it with every movement. A quick assessment told him the truth: it was a compound fracture, completely useless in combat.
Isn't this guy a Devil Fruit user? Yermak thought in disbelief. Atlas's explosive abilities had all but convinced him—but this attack had proved him wrong.
Beneath the waves, Atlas knew the strike had done serious damage.
Bang!
With a massive splash, he burst from the sea like a breaching tiger shark, head hardened with Armament Haki, charging straight for Yermak's location.
"Cloud Shield: Armament!" Yermak reacted on instinct, raising his defence. There was no time to think—only to block.
Boom!
The violent collision rocked the skies. This time, Yermak couldn't fully withstand the force. The explosive flames fused with the crushing headbutt, slamming into him without mercy.
The shockwave ripped the surrounding clouds apart into ragged, drifting fragments over the churning sea.
Yermak steadied himself atop one of the larger pieces, dread sinking deep into his chest. In just a short exchange, he knew—this Marine was his superior. And that was after Big Mom had worn Atlas down.
"Cloud Mist: Domain!"
As Atlas regained his footing, his vision was swallowed by an expanding mist.
It reminded him of Smoker's Smoke-Smoke Fruit, though the composition was different. Smoker's smoke was made of fine solid particles—Yermak's mist was vapour and ice crystals, laced with a chilling cold.
Sure enough, the temperature began to drop. Still… this was nothing compared to Aokiji's Ice-Ice Fruit.
"Hm? Trying to run?" Atlas muttered. Yermak was no fool—when the odds turned against him, he'd flee rather than fight to the death. Cruel, cunning, greedy—he was the textbook pirate.
Atlas's Observation Haki had already locked onto his target. With a sharp push from his legs, his body blurred forward.
Yermak sensed him coming and responded instantly, condensing a massive spear of cloud hardened with Armament Haki, then hurling it straight at Atlas.
"Cloud Shield: Armament—Spear!"
The blackened spearhead gleamed with deadly sharpness, its pressure alone making Atlas's cheeks sting.
That much Armament? Atlas thought, impressed. Still, he didn't slow.
"Don't forget—I'm also a swordsman!"
In one smooth motion, Atlas drew the Sandai Kitetsu, his arm swelling with power as he swung.
"One Sword Style: Armament—Raikiri!"
A blood-red slash wreathed in black-and-red Haki tore through the air. This was a technique he'd only recently mastered—infusing Haki directly into his cuts for devastating effect. The slash cleaved the spear apart, ripping a path open.
Yermak sensed the killing intent from behind, panic seizing him for a split second.
Atlas's pupils narrowed, a fierce aura erupting from him—pure, overwhelming presence.
"This is… Conqueror's Haki!"
Yermak's mind went blank, as though a sledgehammer had struck his skull. His body locked up—just for an instant, but that was all Atlas needed.
In a blur, Atlas was behind him. The Sandai Kitetsu flashed—
A spray of blood.
A head, eyes frozen in shock, tumbled into the sea with a muted splash.
Yermak—beheaded.
"Tch… all flash, no substance," Atlas said coldly, raising the severed head on the tip of his blade.
As the mist faded, a massive warship closed in on his position.
Yermak's fruit had not reached Awakening—though Atlas suspected it was close. Without that, it couldn't permanently alter the environment.
"Commodore Atlas! Mission complete—requesting permission to return!" An adjutant stepped off the arriving ship and saluted.
"Good. Let's meet up with my warship first—they're stationed a bit farther back," Atlas replied, scanning the area with a frown.
"Where's Vice Admiral Aokiji? Why hasn't he returned?" Atlas didn't believe for a moment that Aokiji had fallen to Big Mom or fled the field. Even now, though not at his peak, the man wielded Admiral-level strength.
The World Government's delay in promoting Sengoku to Fleet Admiral was the only reason the "Monster" Vice Admirals remained just that—Vice Admirals.
"Vice Admiral Aokiji is covering our retreat, sir! He should be here shortly!"
"Alright. I understand."
New World — An Unnamed Sea
The roar of cannon fire shook the waves as two fleets faced one another.
"Gurararara! Here to cause trouble again, Garp? Haven't enough of your soldiers died already?"
Whitebeard's captain's coat snapped in the wind, Murakumogiri in hand, his towering frame radiating absolute confidence.
"Hahahaha! Newgate, you'd better worry about yourself. Your head might be staying here today—and if it does, I'll have to apologise to that kid Atlas!"
Garp cracked his knuckles, his face lit with unrestrained excitement. The raw, unyielding spirit of a born fighter rolled off him in waves.
"Gurararara! Then let's see if you have what it takes, Garp!"
Whitebeard lifted his left arm, bending it to a right angle as a white sphere of energy bloomed around his fist.
Quake!
The air itself fractured like glass, and the shock tore into the sea, making the very world tremble.
At the same moment, Garp launched himself into the air, his fist instantly sheathed in jet-black Armament Haki.
Galaxy Impact!
Boom!
The ultimate collision unleashed a colossal storm, and to the shock of the surrounding Marines and pirates, the sky… cracked open!
"Is this a clash between top tiers? Incredible…"
"Hahaha! That's our Pops! They don't call him the World's Strongest Man for nothing!"
"Vice Admiral Garp is amazing! He truly is the Hero of the Marines!"
The battlefield erupted with shouts. Witnessing a battle capable of shattering the heavens was a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle.
"Gurararara! Enough with the pointless probing, Garp. War isn't a game of house between pirates and Marines!"
Whitebeard raised Murakumogiri, the blade's gleaming tip aimed toward the Marine fleet. A terrifying wave of Conqueror's Haki swept across the battlefield.
The war… had officially begun!
Not far from the Totto Land archipelago, two Marine warships—one large, one small—cut swiftly across the sea.
On the deck of the larger vessel, a tall, lazy-looking man lay back with a green sleep mask over his eyes, letting the sun warm his white suit.
"Vice Admiral Aokiji, are we heading straight to support Vice Admiral Garp's fleet?"
From the adjacent medium-sized ship, Atlas crouched on the railing, peering at the nearly asleep Aokiji.
"Arara~ We'll see. By the time we get there, the war will probably be in its final stages," Aokiji replied languidly, lifting a corner of his eye mask to glance at him.
"Our operation was a success, though, right? We should be looking at a pretty good report, heh heh heh…"
"Arara, not bad. Right now, the most powerful pirate crews in the New World are just Big Mom, the Beasts, and Whitebeard. The Beasts Pirates are still intact, but their influence is mostly limited to Wano. The Whitebeard Pirates remain the strongest. As for Big Mom… she suffered heavy losses. Quite a few of her younger, undeveloped children were killed."
"Hahahaha! How could I miss out on a battle like this?"
Right in the middle of the war between the Marines and Whitebeard's crew, a massive azure dragon descended from the sky with a wild laugh, crashing straight into the fight between Garp and Whitebeard!
Beasts Kaido — Azure Dragon form!
Kaido's sudden arrival forced Garp and Whitebeard apart. They exchanged a look—one threw a punch, the other swung his blade!
"ROOOOAR!"
Two deep wounds tore through Kaido's dragon scales, and he bellowed in pain. Yet the injuries began closing almost instantly.
Garp and Whitebeard ignored the troublemaker and resumed their clash.
"You two… you're getting me excited!" Kaido quickly shifted into his hybrid form. Though his full dragon form boasted greater size and firepower, it lacked agility.
"Tch~ Kaido's such a damn nuisance. He shows up anywhere there's trouble," Marco scoffed, still engaged with Akainu. In his eyes, either Garp or Whitebeard could beat Kaido down—if not for Kaido's ridiculous endurance.
Boom!
Marco's moment of distraction cost him—a giant magma fist punched clean through his chest, leaving a scorched, bleeding hole!
"You dare get distracted while fighting me, First Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates?" Akainu growled.
"Hey, hey, Vista! You could've covered me!" Marco grumbled, glancing at the wound as blue flames surged, rapidly regenerating the damage until only a faint scar remained.
"I'm not as tough as you. A hit like that would've hurt me," Vista replied honestly, his twin swords dancing with precision.
Above the sea, shockwaves from Garp, Whitebeard, and Kaido's clashes tore through the air, kicking up gale-force winds and tsunamis. Sonic booms echoed across the battlefield, deafening anyone too close.
By the time Atlas and Aokiji arrived, they found Whitebeard and Garp teaming up against Kaido, of all people.
Whitebeard had already realised the truth: despite the Marines' heavy deployment, his crew was not their real target. Kaido's interference gave the Whitebeard Pirates the breathing room they needed.
His unpredictable heat breaths forced both sides to stay cautious, unable to fight at full power.
"Ice Time Capsule!"
Aokiji joined the battle instantly, an intense chill sweeping the field. Under his pressure, the pirates who had been holding their ground began to falter.
"Gurararara! All members of the Whitebeard Pirates—retreat!"
Whitebeard seized the opportunity. Clawing at the air with his left hand, he split the very ocean, creating a clear escape route for his crew.
"Hahaha! Running away already, Whitebeard?" Garp called out, though he made no move to chase. The Marines' mission had never been to wipe out Whitebeard's crew this time.
"Hey, hey, hey! You're done already? I'm not!" Kaido shouted.
In response, the newly arrived Aokiji and the now-free Akainu teamed up with Garp to give him a thorough beating.
Only after taking a pounding—bruised, swollen, and covered in lumps—did Kaido finally retreat, riding a shaky flame cloud into the distance.
