Chapter 3 - chapter 3

-Apparently, I was just lucky. -Nikael thought as he heard the door to the opposite room close.

Nikael put on his uniform very carefully, when he was in front of the door to his room he opened it slowly, while he thought: "stairs or elevator?"

As he left, he saw slimy marks of uneven footsteps coming from the direction where the stairs and elevator were located. He began to walk very carefully, he carried his shoes in his hands to avoid the noise when walking. When he reached the stairs he saw the slimy marks on the steps, so he decided to use the elevator. He entered the elevator, pressed the button for the first floor and heard the door of one of the rooms open while the air became stale with the unpleasant smell that became increasingly stronger. Despite everything, Nikael remained calm and waited, the elevator closed its doors and began to go down. He sighed, he didn't know what he was going to find once he left the building, but the time had come to abandon the former security, in order to survive.

The elevator opened, Nikael came out right next to the reception, there were grayish footprints on the floor.

-He probably took a while to inspect each room, most likely he is a rational creature. -He thought, while touching with a small knife, one of the prints that seemed to have dried.

Nikael threw the knife in a trash can. As he left the building, he felt a cool breeze, looked in one direction and could see marks on the ground that led him to think:

-If he took long enough for that trail to dry, it means that he inspected each room, as well as the path marked by his footsteps.

Nikael began to walk in the direction from which the monster came, very carefully and without making contact with the marks. In its path there were stores and buildings of all kinds, but it seemed that the monster had only entered those who could have food supplies. After having walked two kilometers, Nikael deviated from the marked path at a fork and followed a new path, since he could not rule out that the monster would return after his own steps.
