Natasha had completely given up. No matter what Nick Fury said, there was no way a mortal like her could hide her true identity from Superman.
In fact, Clark had known she was an agent the moment their interview began. But he didn't care. Agents were good. Their skills were far superior to those of the young interns recruited straight from American universities.
So, Natasha successfully got the job and began her life in what felt like hell.
Clark had considered hiring a second secretary. As the Parker Group grew, the workload for his current one, Natasha, had become too much for a single person.
However, Natasha had refused to admit defeat at the time. Even after being exposed, she continued her efforts to secretly gather intelligence right under Clark's nose. So, the idea of hiring another secretary was put on hold.
But now? It was getting insane. Even with a salary that matched or exceeded the value of the work, pure exhaustion couldn't be solved by money alone.
"I give up, boss," Natasha said, slumping into her chair after handing Clark another stack of documents. "I don't care what the mission is. I assume Nick Fury just wanted me here to keep a close eye on you. If you want to hire a secretary, do it now. I can't keep this up anymore."
Clark smiled, took the documents, and walked into his office. He knew the truth. How could the one-eyed man, Nick Fury, not know that it would be impossible for an agent like him, who can indirectly read minds through microscopic observation, to stay disguised? Besides, Clark was already willing to sell these new materials to S.H.I.E.L.D. anyway. And even if an agent did manage to get their hands on the synthesis methods, would Nick Fury dare to use them without Clark's permission?
Then again, Natasha's stubbornness during this time had been amusing and had helped Clark get used to his new life.
Back in his office, Clark placed the documents on his desk and his ears perked up. "There's a bank robbery in Canada... trying to get money to sneak into Krakoa? That's ridiculous..."
A group of mutant criminals with criminal records wanted to go to Krakoa, but Emma Frost wouldn't allow those who had committed crimes to join the new nation. So these small-time criminals decided to use stolen bank money, hoping Emma would make an exception for them.
First of all, Krakoa was still under construction, and most of its material purchases were in cooperation with major Eastern countries. Canadian currency wouldn't be accepted there. Haven't they ever considered that Canada is too close to New York?
"Ugh... why do people like this always exist?" Clark sighed, standing up and glancing at the documents on his desk. "This will take ten seconds. I might as well get some fresh air."
Ten seconds later, Clark reappeared in his office and picked up the documents. In the bank lobby in Canada, the several mutant criminals lay unconscious.
The next day, Katie joined the Parker Group as Clark's girlfriend and second secretary. The sight almost made Natasha cry.
"I asked for a helper, but why did someone with connections get the job?" she thought. "Won't I still be doing all the work alone?"
In reality, Natasha's worries were completely unfounded. Although Katie was Clark's girlfriend, neither of them had any intention of abusing their power. Katie's purpose was indeed to be with her boyfriend at work, but she wasn't going to do any less work. What's more, as a mutant, she was much more efficient than Natasha in many situations.
In the Parker Group, Katie had no need to hide her abilities. Even though the employees didn't know their boss was Superman, no one dared or wanted to gossip about Katie because she was the boss's girlfriend. The boss was a great guy, providing a stable salary and many benefits. Why would they risk that by gossiping about his mutant girlfriend?
So, while delivering documents, Natasha had to carry the papers, take the elevator to the correct floor, and then hand out the work to the various department heads.
Katie didn't need to do that. She simply vanished across the floor, handed the work arrangements to the department heads, and returned to the secretary's office instantly. Her efficiency was on a completely different level.
A month later, Natasha discovered that her salary as a top-notch agent was no longer as high as that of this young woman.
As for whether this would bother Natasha, it wasn't something Clark had to worry about, because on this day...
"Clark, this is a market survey on Stark Group's gold-titanium alloy," Katie said. "Its performance has reached or even exceeded that of our ultra-high-tensile steel, except for its weight and price. As a result, almost 70% of the U.S. market has been taken over by the Stark Group."
"Is that so? I understand..."
The fact that their ultra-high-tensile steel had lost 70 percent of its market share to gold-titanium alloy should have been a major issue, but Clark was calm, which confused Katie.
"Clark, our ultra-high-tensile steel is just a semi-finished product. We could make its weight a tenth of what it is now, and no one could compete with us. Why don't you do that?"
Clark had thought about this question long ago. The answer was simple. "Of course I could use Kryptonian technology and the knowledge of my old friends to help humans develop quickly. But if I did that, wouldn't it just turn Earth into another Krypton?"
By directly revealing all of his technology, he would show the people of Earth the path for the next tens or even hundreds of thousands of years. Then Earth, having become dependent on Kryptonian technology, would almost certainly suffer the same fate.
Just as Clark was about to continue explaining to his girlfriend, his expression suddenly turned serious. He turned and rushed out the window. "What happened?"
In Queens, a speech was being held for the Borough President. The person giving the speech was Clark's mother, May Parker.
Starting as a community representative a few years ago, May had begun her campaign for Queens Borough President, and soon, she would likely run for Mayor of New York City.
This speech was merely a formality because the outcome was already decided. If May, with the Parker Group behind her, couldn't be elected, then who else would be qualified? The mayoral election would be chaotic with the likely intervention of Stark Industries and Oscorp, but for the Queens Borough President, there was no suspense at all.
But at that moment, a truck came barreling toward the stage. If no one stopped it, the accident would cause a huge number of casualties.
While everyone watched in horror, May's expression remained calm. In the next instant, Clark, in his black and gold Superman suit, descended from the sky and stopped the out-of-control truck.
"Superman! It's Superman!"
