Chapter 117: Lin Ze's Sophistry
"Let the king see how you please him!"
"Endless Dark Domain!"
As the Flame Lion Demon An Luoxian shouted, a fiery red light burst from his body, instantly engulfing the entire battlefield.
This was his domain ability.
> Endless Dark Domain: Creatures within the domain experience intensifying pain over time, while simultaneously amplifying An Luoxian's spiritual power.
"Let the king hear your cries."
His arrogant voice echoed through the air. The wounded, now caught in the domain, felt their suffering magnified—like salt poured on gaping wounds.
Agonized screams rang throughout Exorcist Pass, echoing from both demon and human alike. Some even collapsed, fainting from the unbearable pain.
"An Luoxian, you truly have disgusting taste. It's a shame, though—this place will be your grave."
With a cold snort, Lin Ze swung his scythe. Each swing ripped through space, forming a web of blood-red slashes like a spider's net.
An Luoxian's eyes twitched with alarm. He had never seen a weapon that could tear space so effortlessly.
But Lin Ze had no intention of holding back. Amidst the corpses strewn across the battlefield, his secondary sickle (Yuan Tong) was hungry for souls.
As Lin Ze focused his will, a chilling wind swept over the searing-hot Exorcist Pass, even the demons and humans present felt a cold shiver crawl up their spines.
Countless souls rose from the fallen and were drawn toward Lin Ze's weapon: Dark Soul Twin.
The ghostly secondary sickle (Yuan Tong), once translucent, quickly solidified, shrouded in a grayish-white mist.
It was the breath of death.
The more undead it absorbed, the more terrifying the aura that radiated from Dark Soul Twin became.
How could this be possible?
An Luoxian's expression shifted drastically. The flaming confidence he had earlier was now tempered with dread.
He could feel it clearly—this aura... it was similar to the Demon Pillar!
But this time, when he flew to the Exorcist Pass, he hadn't brought the Demon Pillar with him.
"Hmph! Even with the divine weapon's aid, you're still only at the peak of the eighth rank."
Seeing Lin Ze still absorbing the spirits of the dead, An Luoxian was no fool. He charged forward, slashing down with his flaming greatsword.
This blow carried the full force of over 200,000 spiritual energy units. The once 5–6 meter blade instantly expanded to nearly twenty meters long!
This strike could shatter the walls of the Exorcist Pass. Its destructive force was terrifying beyond imagination.
Facing this all-out attack, Lin Ze's expression remained calm. His secondary sickle, Abyssal Eyes, now brimming with undead energy, gleamed with grayish-white brilliance.
The once-illusory blade had fully solidified.
Before An Luoxian's attack could land, a streak of purple mixed with gray-white light pierced the sky.
Blessed by Cai'er's divine weapon, Dark Soul Twins, Lin Ze's speed reached unimaginable heights.
A momentary flaw appeared—one he wouldn't miss.
With a single slash, Lin Ze severed the flaming greatsword in two.
Crack!
The sword shattered with a sound like torn space.
Before An Luoxian could recover, Lin Ze's main sickle (Killing Realm) and secondary sickle (Deep Eyes) fused together.
In that instant, an overwhelming aura surged from the weapon.
Even the surrounding space twisted and distorted.
Seeing the terror in An Luoxian's eyes, Lin Ze didn't hesitate.
Raising the weapon high, he swung down in a flash of icy light.
Slash!
The scythe cleaved through An Luoxian's body before he could react.
The death aura infused into the weapon instantly consumed him.
The blow split him in half—beyond revival.
All that remained in the air was the orange-red Demon God's Crown, floating silently.
Lin Ze glanced at the inheritance crown but didn't destroy it. Instead, he allowed it to drift away.
Returning the Void weapon to Cai'er, Lin Ze carried her back to the Command Center's platform.
As for the surviving demons—upon witnessing the deaths of three Demon Gods—they scattered like headless flies. Some fled, some perished.
The human army quickly seized the advantage, chasing the retreating demons and sweeping them out of Exorcist Pass in one strike.
When Lin Ze and Cai'er landed on the command platform, Leng Xiao and Yue Ye were already waiting.
Seeing them, both Lin Ze and Cai'er froze for a moment.
"Yue'er? Sister Xiao Xiao? What are you two doing here..." Lin Ze asked, sounding clearly guilty.
Yue Ye narrowed her eyes and teased, "Oh? So you do feel guilty? How are you going to explain all this when we get back?"
"Three Demon Gods died in one go. His Majesty must know by now."
Lin Ze coughed lightly and said, "This wasn't my fault! They didn't even give me a chance to explain—just attacked me without warning."
"I only acted in self-defense!"
"..."
Cai'er, Yue Ye, and Leng Xiao were all stunned.
Cai'er, who had seen everything, looked at Lin Ze in disbelief. "Lin Ze… you're really going to talk your way out of this?"
Lin Ze feigned a cough. "You see, I had to hide my identity when I entered Exorcist Pass. The upper echelons of the Assassin Temple mustn't know I'm a demon. But then Sheng Lingxin showed up, followed by Qing Yao and Qi Mo Xier. If Qi Mo Xier had exposed me, my cover would've been blown."
"So I had no choice—I accepted Sheng Lingxin's mission on the spot, to maintain my cover."
"That's why we delivered the Exorcism Order to the Command Center."
"...Uh..."
"..."
"..."
The three women were dumbfounded.
It did sort of make sense, even if it felt like sophistry.
Yue Ye probed further: "But you did activate the Divine Seal Throne projection and kill three Demon Gods..."
"Correction—Cai'er killed the Green Demon Rider Xi'er. I only took out An Luoxian and Sai Gong. Also, I didn't even know that throne projection was a Divine Seal. Sister Yue, you saw—I didn't sit on it!"
"If I'd truly betrayed the Demon Race, I'd have destroyed their Demon God Crowns too."
"So really—blame them. They attacked me first, and their words were too harsh!"
"..."
"..."
"..."
The three looked at him blankly.
It made sense... kind of. But they couldn't refute it directly.
Still—would Demon King Feng Xiu buy it?
Yue Ye and Leng Xiao both knew the answer.
And Lin Ze? Of course, he understood Feng Xiu well. But what he hadn't told them was this:
He had another reason for killing An Luoxian—to prove his strength.
The Demon God Emperor had chosen him as the heir to Xidi, the Demon God of Love, because he believed Lin Ze could one day save the demon race from destruction.
If Lin Ze couldn't even defeat a ninth-rank Demon God, he'd lose all credibility.
But if he proved himself strong and useful—Feng Xiu might just let him live.
