The door to the herb room shut with a soft clunk, and Bao Bei, who had stepped outside, trudged back toward the dining hall. There wasn't really anywhere else for him to go. There was Jihl's room, but he didn't want to go back to that room without Jihl in it.
Dragging his tail behind him, Bao Bei climbed up into the chair Cymet had made just for him.
The mealtime was already over, so the table had been completely cleared. The empty table looked incredibly long and wide.
He thought that if he rolled all the way across it, by the time he reached the other side, he might be so dizzy he couldn't stand.
There were two of those long tables lined up side by side, with lots of chairs placed around them. He started counting to see how many there were, but as always, once he got past twenty, he forgot where he was and had to start over.
While Bao Bei was nodding to himself and trying to count again, three of the cooks came out from the kitchen.
