Chapter 17 - Echoes After the Battle

"Yuta.".

"Yuta!".

Yuta turns to take a look at Rika before marching forward.

"Yut-".

Rika walks up in the infirmary, staring at the glimmery lights.

A nurse carrying a tray murmurred "I wonder when she will wake-".

Thud!

The tray of medicine crashed to the floor as she stared at Rika frantically sitting up on her bed.

Helping her sit up, Rika asked "How long have I been out?".

"Two days", the nurse answering blankly

"What have I been done all this time?", Rika asked clutching the bedsheets.

"In short, about the people of Gandogo—they all arrived safely. You made it in time, but you and the young boy were found by the door, so we carried you inside," the nurse said, glancing at her patient file.

"It seems you have mana depletion, that is why you collapsed, Be more careful in the future".

"Yes ma".

Excusing the room for Rika, Rika laid back down raising her hand to the ceiling.

'A whole two days, but I don't seem to remember anything happening, my last memory was fighting Belwick'.

MEANWHILE

Deep within a silent cave, Yuta sat in meditation while Luna watched him intently.

'A whole two days huh since I last saw rep huh'.

"What, missing her already Yuta?", a figure teased looking at Yuta.

Staring back at that same figure, another popped up beside Yuta "You ought to let her have died back then, are you sure you made the right choice".

"Of course he did, his enemy is not her but that damn goddess Rena", the other argued.

"I am just saying, won't it have been better to have let her die", the other argued.

Yuta stared back as both argued, his mind drifting to the past.

TWO DAYS EARLIER

"So long, Class rep, Yuta said before disappearing from Rika sight".

Standing in front of Yuta was belwick clearly pissed at the disappearance of his prey.

"What do you think you are doing", Belwick said in a harsh tone.

"Buying enough time for them to escape", Yuta argued.

'I did not plan for this actually before'.

MOMENTS EARLIER

"Let's go," were the last words Yuta said to Luna before stepping out of the abyss —but instead of peaceful land, they found only destruction and chaos.

 "Where are we?", Yuta asked.

"It seems we have been transported somewhere, if my memory serves me right, this is Gandogo", Luna answered.

"Let's access the situation", Yuta asked

"Sure".

Luna going back to her sword form as Yuta channeled his power through it, forming wings of magic.

"Seems this is quite useful Luna", Yuta said.

"Yeah".

Soaring the skies, Yuta quickly made access of the situation. From his perspective, it was a war between humans and demon army, not that he minded but what was surprising was that they were no humans fighting back.

'Seems they had escaped, that is good'.

'Let me go find a place to stay far from the chaos'.

As Yuta turned to fly away, he sensed killing intent in the air.

"What a foul stench", Yuta said in a disgusted look.

Flying towards the source, Yuta saw Rika and the boy, Dante at the mercy of the enemy.

Stopping mid-air, Yuta was faced with an impossible choice between escaping for himself or saving Rika.

"Why don't just save her", a figure said beside Yuta.

"I believe she should just die, she betrayed after all and beside the enemy is the goddess, just cut the goddess limbs and she would be easy to kill off", the other figure argued.

"If you leave her to die, what makes you any different from the goddess? You'd be two sides of the same coin," the other countered.

"Yuta", Luna said cutting in.

Snapping back to reality, Yuta looked at Luna. "What should we do, Luna?".

"I think we should save her, I can wipe her memories of you being there", Luna answered in a calm tone.

"I think we will follow your plan then", Yuta said with a faint grin.

He hasn't changed… Even after all this time, despite the hatred, he still feels compassion. I'm glad he hasn't changed, Luna thought.

As the dagger streaked toward Rika, Yuta dove from the sky and blocked it at the last moment.

PRESENT

Rika and Dante got taken away from Belwick.

"Let's make a deal", Yuta asked.

"What would that be", Belwick asked with a puzzled look.

"You let me live and you have Gandogo, I believe the humans cannot defeat you either way", Yuta said evenly.

With a curious expression, Belwick looked at Yuta.

'Take the deal you damn demon, I don't have the energy to fight with you right now'.

"I must say, it's tempting," Belwick said, clutching his staff. "But I must bring a prize for my master—so I must decline."

 'Fuck, I got to move'.

Belwick chanted spells at Yuta while Yuta just dodged desperately, he had not attempt of fighting back, he knew clearly that he was weaker than belwick currently and was not strong enough to fight back after fighting the guardian, so he had only one goal in mind.

LEAVE TO FIGHT ANOTHER DAY.

Using the terrain and environment to his environement, Yuta successfully parried all of Belwick attacks, some sill hit though few grazed him but not enough to inflict any injury.

"Stop scurrying around, you damn rat!", Belwick said in a beliwered tone.

"I will take that chance, you parasite", Yuta fired back.

'Come on Luna, what is taking you so long'.

"I am here Yuta", Luna screamed as she threw herself back to her sword form.

Holding Luna in his hand, Yuta eyes shimmered with light, wings of mana sprouted out.

"Oh no, you don't", Belwick snarled, chanting a spell to trap him.

In the blink of an eye, Yuta shot into the skies in a swift, making it out barely before the spell activated.

Looking down at Belwick, Yuta could clearly see the hatred in his eyes like a cat who has missed his chance to catch his prey.

"I will find you rat", Belwick said.

"I don't know, I scurry too fast for you to find me", Yuta said with a smirk gliding away.

BACK IN THE PRESENT

Finishing his meditation, Yuta rose to his feet. Across from him, Luna stood studying a worn-out map spread across the stone floor.

"Where do we go from here", Yuta asked standing beside Luna.

Luna traced her finger across the map before glancing up at him. "We head to Livastin—the City of Love."
