Malik was lying on the ground, bloody and broken. Countless wounds stained his uniform red, his arms could no longer raise his shield, he couldn't feel his legs, but he knew they were broken.
All he could do, as his vision faded, was look to the sky, look for his last strengths.
It was cold. It shouldn't be this cold.
All he saw, was the great blue expanse of the sky. Malik didn't like looking at the sky.
Malik didn't know why, but whenever he looked at the sky he was filled with an indescribable anxiety. Normally he wouldn't be able to look up at it for more than a couple of seconds, but...
But what else can I do? But what will this broken body allow me to do?
I can be saved. I can be saved. I can be saved. I can be saved. I can be saved. Will I be saved?
Where are they? Where are they? Where are they? Where are they? Where are they? Where are they? Why aren't they here?
Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? WHY?!
I'm cold. Cold. Cold. Cold.
Alone. Alone. Alone. Alone. Alone.
If I'm alone, they won't hurt me...
So why does it hurt now?
Should I disappear? Should I die?
Friends? But... I don't have friends...
Make friends? But... When I tried they were mean to me!
I'm not crying...
I just... I don't know what to do...
You don't either? Don't cry teacher, you're a grown up, you must have lots of friends!
Why are you hugging me?
...
It's... Warm.
...
Teacher! #### made me fly real high! It was so scary!!! Huh? Am I hurt? No... She let me down really softly... And I got some tissues from her.
Teacher! #### keeps playing pranks on me! Help me play a prank on her! Huh? Not mad? Of course I'm mad! But she always laughs at my pranks so I really need to surprise her this time!
Teacher...
You were cold too, weren't you?
I wonder, did I ever made you feel warm?
...
I know... I know you died cold and alone on that hospital bed.
What a joke. In a world full of dangers, monsters, alien technology, people with powers, all it really takes to cut a life short is some rare illness...
Am I going to die like that? Seeing nothing but blue... I'd rather have died by being crushed by some giant monster, at least then it'd have been in an instant...
Hana... Karen...
I need to see them.
Please, don't let this damned sky be the last thing I see...
How funny... I always laughed when the news showed that someone I didn't even know existed had died, and they'd always say they the person was surrounded by their friends and family...
But here I am, begging to the void for just that...
...
Just as Malik was about to close his eyes, he sees them. Flying high, Hana had become a ball of blackness, her gravity distorting the space around her. Karen was darting around as a beam of light.
They're here...!
Malik smiled. He wasn't alone, he forgot the cold.
They were fighting something he could quite make out, but he knew they would win.
Hana holds back a lot, but she isn't careless. Never has an enemy breached her defenses.
Karen is a showoff, but she never overestimates herself. She always listens to my plans and knows to not let her guard down.
They'll win. They'll win, and they'll come for me...
But then... The indistinct figure approached the ball of black. It was meant to repel anything that came close to it, to protect Hana, but it was popped like a bubble. Hana fell from the sky.
The indistinct figure then manged to grab the beam of light that was moving around chaotically. In a brief flash of light, Karen fell from the sky.
No-
No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no-
No!
It can't be like this! It can't!
You can't take them away from me!!!
I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU! HATE! I HATE- YOU- I-
Malik's eyes grew more and more tired.
He tried his hardest to keep them open, to look for the one who did this to the only people he loved.
But all he saw...
Was the the blue of the sky-
...
With a gasp Malik almost jumped out of bed.
"Fuck... It was a dream... Holy shit..."
Malik brought his hand to his forehead, feeling how sweaty it was, he decided to take a shower in the middle of the night.
Malik wasn't one for cold showers, even in the summer unless it was unbearably hot Malik would still shower with hot water.
But this time was different. He need to wake up completly. He needed to clean himself from the wounds his mind inflict on him in the dream.
After the shower, without even turning the lights on, Malik walked to his bedroom, hitting his arm on the door handle, unintentionally hurting himself, before finally reaching his bed again.
He'd lay there, but he would not sleep for the rest of the night.
