Chapter 14 - 14

What are points? What are they used for?

Just as Chu Yian was wondering, a new row of options appeared under her personal stats:

[Point Store] [Chat Room] [Inventory]

She clicked on the Point Store first.

There were only three items available:

Food Pack – 1 point per unit

(Restores Satiety to 100%. Falling below 20% may lead to death.)

Cleaning Pack – 1 point per unit

(Restores Cleanliness to 100%. Falling below 40% may cause illness. Below 20% is life-threatening.)

Medical Pack – 5 points per unit

Upon reading this, Chu Yian finally understood what points were for.

She spent 2 points to buy a Food Pack and a Cleaning Pack.

Both items appeared in her Inventory.

She opened her inventory and selected the items—just like that, they appeared in her hands.

The Food Pack was a bottle of pale blue liquid.

After drinking it, her Satiety went from 90% to 100% instantly. As for the taste… there really wasn't any.

The Cleaning Pack was a small metallic box.

It was silver, with a bright red button on the top. When she pressed it, the box disintegrated like sand in her palm, spreading outward like liquid.

Her Cleanliness jumped to 100%.

Not just her body—even her clothes looked freshly laundered.

The old couch beneath her was suddenly spotless, like it had just come out of the showroom.

She looked around in surprise.

Total darkness.

Not because there was no light—but because black mist surrounded her on all sides.

Only a 2-cubic-meter bubble of safety remained around her.

She suddenly remembered the earlier warning:

Contact with the black mist = player death.

So she was trapped in this tiny cube of space?

Chu Yian shouted a few times.

No response.

It was like she was the only person left in the world.

And she wasn't sure anymore whether the zombie apocalypse was worse than this suffocating black fog.

Then she remembered the Chat Room option and clicked it.

It had three subchannels:

[World]

[Nearby – 20km]

[Friends]

[World 620098761]: Someone tell me what the hell is going on? Is this the actual apocalypse?

[World 612907815]: That black mist has got to be an alien invasion. No way we're not dealing with high-level extraterrestrial tech. This is like a full-dive VR survival sim—insane!

[World 659619818]: This game is deadly, man. I stepped outside and got eaten by zombies. Still traumatized. Has anyone not died and actually cleared the game?

[World 5290839282]: Bro, no one's making it past the zombies. How do you even get to the safe zone?

[World 3102]: I did. Escaped just fine. My starter pack gave me a gun and 1,000 bullets. What did y'all get? Also, are we supposed to turn in our guns?

[World 3458190747]: Yes, turn them in—to me.

[World 3890617853]: Yeah, hand them over. I'll take care of them.

[World 3368901678]: Man, I drew a freakin' bottle of mineral water…

The forum was exploding with activity—thousands of new posts appeared every second.

Chu Yian scrolled through the chaos, gradually piecing together that not everyone made it out alive.

Players who died in the game were simply booted back to reality.

Soon, messages started popping up in the Nearby – 20km channel.

[Nearby 6121987656]: Anyone in our area clear the game?

[Nearby 6121987656]: Let's check in, folks. I know we're still alive for now, but the item descriptions in the point store are freaking me out.

[Nearby 2991876542]: As a hardcore webnovel fan, I've got to say… this is peak infinite survival game territory. Succeed and live. Fail, and you die—maybe not instantly, but starvation or disease will get you.

[Nearby 3689098716]: Exactly. This is clearly a five-day survival trial meant to wear us down. Has anyone near us actually cleared the game?

[Nearby 2991876542]: Same question. Also, what did y'all get in your starter packs? I got… a bottle of laxative. No joke.

[Nearby 2768990178]: Wow. Suddenly my starter smartphone doesn't seem so bad.

People began reporting what they had drawn—

Some got tea leaves.

Some got dry-cleaning machines.

Someone got a chicken that lays eggs daily…

So much weird stuff.

Chu Yian couldn't help but wonder if that prize wheel was rigged to not give out good loot.

Which made her treasure chest feel like a stroke of incredible luck.

Or maybe people who got good gear were keeping quiet—trying to fly under the radar and hoard their fortune.

Best not to reveal her treasure chest, then.

She thought seriously about how to phrase her message… but someone beat her to it.

[Nearby 20109]: I finally cleared it. Scared the crap out of me.

[Nearby 2991876542]: OMG we've got a survivor in our area! Everyone, come read this!

[Nearby 5431323891]: Boss! Total legend!

[Nearby 3627173289]: Please share how you cleared it! What was your reward?

[Nearby 20109]: Honestly, I got lucky. I spawned in the same city as the safe zone. Used a starter item to escape my apartment complex, found a car, and managed to stumble my way there.

[Nearby 2991876542]: Incredible. Jealous. What was your starter item, if you don't mind me asking?

[Nearby 20109]: Sorry, can't share that. But I can tell you the reward—50 points.

[Nearby 2991876542]: 50?! That's insane. With that many points, you're set for food and medicine for days.
