Chapter 32 - Rindel

Flashback….

The lights in the lab were dim and flickered from time to time. Rows of strange machines filled the room, along with tall glass tanks that held unknown experiments. The air smelled of metal and chemicals, and there was a low hum from the equipment.

In the center of the lab, a large glass cubicle stood. Inside it sat Rindel. Her knees were drawn close to her chest, and her eyes followed every movement outside the glass. She looked tired, but there was a sharp focus in her stare.

The metal doors slid open, and Grayslake walked in. His footsteps echoed on the floor as he approached.

"How are the tests going?" he asked.

"Excellent, sir," replied a woman in a white coat. She stood beside a control panel with glowing screens.

"Good," Grayslake said. He moved closer and placed his hand on the glass wall of the cubicle where Rindel sat.

The moment she saw him, Rindel stood up and ran to the glass. She slammed her hands against it again and again, her face full of anger.

Grayslake simply looked at her. Then the air in the room began to feel heavy. The lights flickered again, and an invisible pressure filled the space. It grew stronger by the second.

The weight pushed down on everything, but most of it was on Rindel. Her body shook as she tried to stay standing. Her legs gave way, and she dropped to her knees. Her hands slipped from the glass, and she struggled to lift her head up ward

"Sir…" the lab assistant said, her voice strained. She could barely breathe under the force that filled the room.

Grayslake looked at her, then back at Rindel. After a moment, he sighed. "Apologies," he said, and the crushing pressure slowly faded away.

He turned to the woman. "Miss, you know what to do yes?"

"Of course, sir," she replied quickly.

Grayslake began walking toward the door, but the woman spoke again before he could leave.

"Wait, Mr. Grayslake. What about your sons? And the other hunters?"

He paused, looking over his shoulder. "My sons are just fine," he said slowly. "Though I doubt they will see my vision." His gaze moved to the large experiments around him, each one holding strange, living shapes inside. "We will protect our world, and we will erase these monsters from existence… by using their own kind."

He walked out of the room, and the door closed behind him.

The assistant pressed a button, and the floor beneath Rindel shifted. A set of mechanical arms grabbed her and pulled her into a large metal chair. Straps locked her arms and legs in place.

Electric sparks lit the air for a moment before they surged into her body. Rindel gritted her teeth as her strength and energy drained away into the machine.

"You will be our power source," the woman said with a cruel smile.

Rindel's head lowered, her voice weak but steady. "Grayslake… I will find… Grayslake
