Chapter 7 - Kingdom (1)

Right now, I am sitting alone in the carriage my father prepared for me.

We won't be stopping anywhere in between and will reach Greystone as soon as possible.

Well, we have to stop for food, but nothing other than that.

I have also calmed down quite a lot since I am sitting alone right now.

Seren and Eleanor have been too much for me, someone who has never been in a relationship.

I belonged to an Asian household, and my father was clear: never date unless you are sure you will marry. So, I never found anyone I knew for sure I would marry.

My father had arranged a marriage meeting for me back in our home country, but I never got a chance to meet the girl. I hope she found someone.

I had two elder brothers as well, and both of them were married.

I am sure everyone was sad when I died, but our family accepted the truth that everyone must die one day, so they most probably soon accepted the fact that I was no longer alive.

I hope everyone is in good health back on Earth.

I prayed to God for their well-being.

This will be the first and last time I think about them, as I have to move on with this new life and accept that I am now Lucian Valemont.

(04:00 P.M.)

It seems we will reach our destination in two hours.

I talked a little with the driver, and he told me that he was a retired knight.

Well, Father prepared the best person for me so I could easily do whatever was on my mind.

I decided to rest, as it would be better to find anything good in the town.

(06:30 P.M.)

I booked a room for myself in a good inn.

I was planning to book two rooms, but the driver told me that he would rest in the driver's lounge.

After saying that, he told me in private that he could gather information regarding the routes and monsters there.

Well, I have a lot to learn as of now.

Playing a game and traveling in real life sure are different.

This town was not playable in the game, so I am not sure if there is anything here worth my time. Still, I decided to take a round around the market.

I immediately left the inn wearing a cloak, hoping to find something good in the town.

One by one, I went to different stores, but everything was useless. Just when I was about to return to the inn, my eyes fell on a roadside vendor selling junk antique items.

Interesting.

『Stone of Luck』

A rare item that could grant the user a buff.

The buff could be active or passive.

The specialty of this item was that it also had curses as active buffs, but if you had an A-grade healing potion, all the effects of the curses could be immediately negated.

The passive buffs were the main charm of these stones, and there was a trick to 100% achieve a passive skill from this stone. Unfortunately, I can't achieve that just yet, but I should still buy this stone.

"How much for this rock?"

"Three silver."

"Five bronze."

"Tch, alright."

The exchange rate for the kingdom's coins is 50.

Father had provided me with 15 gold coins and told me that I could use them in any way.

I handed him the five bronze coins and took the Stone of Luck.

Luckily, I have the Item Appraisal skill of a player, so I can easily appraise most items unless they are hidden treasures.

After this, I went back to the inn, had food, and immediately went to sleep.

(Next Day)

We started our journey early in the morning and are expected to reach the kingdom by 01:00 P.M.

There are many events that could be done in the original Iris Saga, but I am sure there are many changes as well—and maybe the city is larger than in the game.

(Kingdom Entrance)

I stepped down from the carriage.

A knight stopped us to check who we were.

"This is the carriage of the Valemont house, and the person I am serving right now is the heir of the Valemont house, Lord Lucian Valemont."

The driver gave my introduction, and after checking the authenticity of the Valemont crest, the knight let us pass easily.

It seems it is not hard to enter the kingdom, but I was directly entering the noble district of the capital city.

We immediately went to the only inn in the noble district.

The charge for one night was 2 gold coins.

Talk about being expensive just for simple lodging. In the commoners' district, I'm sure I could easily find a decent place for 15–30 bronze coins.

I immediately left the inn after having lunch to go to the commoners' market district.

The city is definitely different from the game—or more like the city in the game was a compressed version of the real one.

I started searching through different back alleys to find a hidden shop that was the key to becoming the demon king candidate.

In The Iris Saga, there was a main heroine who was the demon king candidate.

I'm sure she doesn't exist in this world, but we could play a minigame as her, and in that minigame, we got the scenario of her becoming the candidate for demon king.

I don't remember the shop's name, but I can vividly remember its signboard.
