Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

The Revelation

Anne's Point of view;

The first class was taken by Mrs. Charity and she kept on going on about Ancient Rome and other historical stuff.

My phone beeped with a notification and I glanced at my phone quickly to see that it was from Rebecca.

She was seated beside me and I glanced at her, furrowing my brows in confusion. She nudged at me to check my phone.

"Check" she mouthed at me and my eyes went down to my phone.

'Don't forget about the party and btw, your outfit is nice, where did you get it?'

I had totally forgotten about the party and I quickly typed up a response. I was going to keep Mr. Miller a secret from her as long as I can.

'Of course, I'll be there. It's today, right?'

I carefully avoided talking about the outfit as I had no tangible reason to give and she knew that my parents couldn't afford it.

I glanced up to see her smiling at me and the memories of Mr. Miller warning me about the party came to my mind.

What could go wrong in attending a harmless party? It wasn't like my best friend was going to harm me or something.

I returned the smile and refocused on the class.

The rest of the day went by in a blur and I could feel several pairs of eyes on me, which was of course because of my outfit.

When I picked the crop top, I had no idea that it was a designer, but of course, Mr Miller loved to display his wealth.

I had no idea what he did and I really didn't care. All I wanted was for him to stay out of my way and I'll stay out of his way.

After my last class, I made my way towards the school gate when it hit me.

I wasn't going home. I couldn't anymore! I had a new home now and I didn't know the address!

What's worse? I didn't have Mr. Miller's phone number, so I couldn't call him.

Suddenly someone placed their hand on my shoulder and I spun around immediately to see that it was Rebecca.

"Why do you look so tense? Expecting anyone?"

I forced a smile again. I was indeed waiting for someone, Rex. I had been avoiding his call for a while now and felt guilty.

"No. No one," I replied.

"Let's go shopping," she said and I smiled. Rebecca loved shopping.

Suddenly, a black sleek car which looked super expensive stopped in front of us.

My heart slammed hard against my chest as I feared that the car had come for me.

The door opened and a man in dark sunglasses and dark tuxedo walked towards us. I recognized him instantly as Mr. Miller's bodyguard.

Rebecca gasped. "Look at that car! And he's walking towards us!" She turned to me. "I think he's coming to talk to me, don't say anything," her tone suddenly became authoritative.

"Mrs…."

"Who are you!" I yelled as it was the only thing that came to my mind to stop him from calling me Mrs. Miller.

I couldn't risk letting Rebecca know.

"What are you doing!" She seethed in anger as she glanced at me, her eyes blazing with fury.

The man looked thoroughly confused

The man looked thoroughly confused as he glanced at the both of us, by now, everyone around were looking at us.

I kept praying and hoping that the man would take the cue and leave, but he looked like he wanted to say something and I knew immediately that I had to act fast.

"Let's go!" I grabbed the man, dragging him to the car and getting inside, startling everyone who was watching, especially Rebecca whose mouth hung open in amazement.

I sighed as soon as he began to drive and from the rear view mirror, I could see everyone's eyes trained on us.

"Look here, Mr.."

"Trevor, Mrs Miller," he said and I nodded.

"Right, Trevor. Please, refrain from coming to the school to pick me! And refrain from Calling me Mrs. Miller in public."

"Mr. Miller ordered us to come pick you…"

I cut in quickly. "I don't care about that!"

"What should we call you?"

"Ophelia."

He didn't say anything anymore and I was grateful, but I knew that sooner, I was going to have to face Rebecca and the rest of the students who had seen us. I switched off my phone quickly just as Rebecca's call came in.

I couldn't stop thinking about Mr. Miller. What would a man like him want with me?

Mrs. Smith greeted me warmly as soon as I arrived at the mansion.

"How was your day, dear?"

"It was fine, thank you," I replied.

"Mr. Miller wants to see you," she added.

My heart skipped a beat. What could he possibly want with me?

I made my way to his study, nervous and as soon as I got there, I gave a light knock.

"Come in," he called out.

I entered, finding him behind his desk, engrossed in some paperworks.

"Sit down," he said.

I obeyed, trying to read his expression. His brows were furrowed in concentration and his lips were pressed in a thin line.

"How was your day?" He asked, raising his head to glance at me as though he was studying me.

"Fine," I answered simply, knowing that he didn't want to see me because he wanted to ask about my day.

"I will attend a charity gala tonight and you will accompany me. Mrs. Smith will handle everything and I want you to be on your best behaviour. You will meet the rest of my family."

My heart skipped a beat. His family?

"It's settled then," he said as I didn't say anything, it wasn't like he was expecting me to say anything.

"I have a ..my friend's party is tonight…"

He closed the book that he was holding and glanced up at me. "She's not your friend! The earlier you know that, the better."
