Chapter 46 - Chapter 46: Kyoto University

Lucas's recent luck hadn't been particularly impressive. In the next two nightmare dungeon runs he attempted, he didn't uncover anything especially valuable. Despite giving it his best effort, the rewards just didn't match the risks.

Left with no better options, he had to shift his focus to the wild zones—dangerous open areas filled with monsters—to grind experience and upgrade his level. Though he considered himself unlucky, the truth was quite the opposite.

He had managed to pick up several rare, high-quality blue-grade equipment items, which was more than most could hope for. Many teams couldn't even get that much in a full month, and since teams had to divide the loot among five or more members, Lucas's solo farming gave him a distinct advantage.

He simply didn't realize how fortunate he actually was. If he had taken the time to compare his results with others, he might have been boasting to the world that he was some sort of "Destined Emperor of Luck."

For the next two days, Lucas kept repeating the same routine: he would complete three level-20 dungeons, then head back into the wild areas to slay monsters and level up. His progress bar finally crept up to 88%, just shy of leveling up.

But on the final day, he had to stop.

Why?

Because it was the day he had to report to Kyoto University.

Oh, and one more thing—the "Witch's High Heels" he had gotten from a treasure chest had finally been sold. After being posted online for just a day, a buyer messaged him that very night.

Lucas had no idea how to price the item, so he asked the buyer to name a figure first. To his shock, the buyer confidently offered 120,000 yuan!

Lucas was stunned. The buyer's decisiveness left him speechless. Without a moment's hesitation, he shipped the item and made the sale, tears of joy nearly forming in his eyes as he watched his bank account swell.

Strangely, the very next day, the buyer returned to the comment section, leaving a glowing review: "Amazing item! Works perfectly. Very satisfied!" and gave him a full five-star rating.

"???"

Lucas stared at the comment, dumbfounded. He had no clue what the buyer had used the heels for, or how they worked so well. All he could think was: Some people in this world are just... strange. Rich, weird, and happy with the oddest things. Life really is full of surprises.

Still, the money brought him real relief. His bank account now showed a balance in the hundreds of thousands.

He felt like he could breathe again.

Money gives a man courage—and confidence. That saying had never felt more real. Lucas swore that from this point on, he would never let his wallet return to zero. In fact, the more, the better!

---

This year's university admission standards had just been released, and Kyoto University raised the bar. It now required both A-level Talent and Level 16, up from the previous year.

Many promising students who had the A-level talent but were only Level 15 were disappointed, flooding the chat groups with regretful messages. They'd have to settle for lesser schools, while their dreams of attending Kyoto University vanished.

Even Tianhai University, another prestigious school, raised its standards by one level. Lucas's chubby friend, Mason, barely scraped by. He made it in by the skin of his teeth.

Lucas, however, had already secured his spot at Kyoto University through early admission. Everything was ready. His acceptance was confirmed.

On the morning of departure, Lucas packed his bags—or rather, he tossed everything into his space backpack. It was one of the perks of being a career-transferred individual: they had access to spatial storage, a luxury that made travel incredibly convenient.

All set, he made his way toward the portal station that would take him to the main city of Kyoto, where Kyoto University was located.

Before leaving, Lucas paid a visit to Mason. The two had become close friends, and they said their goodbyes warmly. Since their schools were in different cities, they wouldn't see each other for at least half a year.

Lucas's parents, Frank and Martha, were emotional but supportive. His mom cried a little, while his dad patted him on the shoulder. They told him to stay calm in tough situations, to think before acting, and reminded him to call home if he ever needed money.

"Don't worry, I'll be fine," Lucas said, hugging them both. He wasn't the type to be impulsive—he had always been careful and methodical.

With everything in place, Lucas walked through the Tianhai City portal station, paid the 50,000 yuan teleportation fee, and confirmed Kyoto City as his destination.

As the portal's magic circle lit up, he stood still, his figure slowly disappearing in a shimmer of light. The next moment—

He reappeared in Kyoto City, over a thousand miles away!

It was Lucas's first time using such a long-distance portal. It felt like a mix between his assassin skill "Backstab" and the teleportation ability of his Pale Blade, except this time, he was the one being transported.

The experience left him a bit dizzy, possibly from the intensity of the magic or the distance traveled. Thankfully, the sensation passed quickly.

Looking around, he saw many others who had just arrived. Some were so disoriented they nearly vomited. Seeing this made Lucas feel better—at least he wasn't alone in feeling queasy.

He pulled out his phone, checked the route, and boarded a bus to Kyoto University.

Half an hour later, he arrived.

"Whoa, so many people!" Lucas stood at the university gates, taking it all in.

The area was packed. Today was freshman orientation day, and the campus buzzed with excitement. Students, staff, and parents bustled about. And yes—there were plenty of beautiful seniors walking around, which nearly made Lucas forget why he came here in the first place.

Still, he managed to squeeze through the crowd and found the orientation desk. After showing his credentials, he received his welcome packet and room key.

He headed to his dormitory—a four-person room—and found that two roommates had already arrived.

"Hey man, you're here!"

One of them waved enthusiastically and held out a hand. "I'm Zach Darnell, I'm a mage. What's your name?"

Lucas shook his hand. "Nice to meet you! I'm Lucas, assassin class."

Zach laughed. "You've got a cool name. And an assassin, huh? Bet that's awesome!"

"You too. And hey, you've got a name that sounds like money. Pretty cool!"

"Haha, my dad named me that. Our family's... well-off," Zach admitted casually, clearly proud of his roots.

It was obvious: this guy was a rich kid.

The other roommate introduced himself briefly. "I'm Noah Chen, summoner class." He was quieter, more introverted, but seemed nice enough.

"Nice to meet you both. Let's get along," Lucas said warmly as he began unpacking his space bag.

He pulled out all his bedding—mats, quilts, pillows—and started making his bed while casually chatting with Zach.

Not long after, the last roommate arrived. A tall, muscular guy walked in, carrying his luggage like it weighed nothing.

"Yo, I'm Leon Graves. Warrior class. Giant ax specialization. You can call me the muscle of the room!"

The four of them greeted him warmly. The dorm room was now complete.

"Let's grab something to eat," Zach suggested, clapping his hands together. "My treat!"

They all agreed—it was the perfect way to celebrate the start of their new journey.

Four strangers, now roommates, beginning their adventure at one of the top universities in the land.

And just like that, Lucas's life at Kyoto University had officially begun.
