Chapter 31 - 31

Jimmy

"Jimmy, are you sure we're going the right way?" I kept my ears open and gestured for the others to be quiet. A group of boys emerged from the alley.

"Oh, look at all the goodies that have come our way," one of the boys said. I was immediately on guard. We were walking through a pretty bad neighborhood and there was always a chance that bad guys would show up.

"I think I'll start with the one in the blue dress," another said. He wasn't very muscular, but the tattoos made him look dangerous. His half-mohawk didn't make him any less scary.

"I'll take the one in the green dress," the last of the three said. He had a bald head covered in tattoos.

"What do we do with that boy?" the first one asked. He was wearing a white shirt with the sleeves torn off. Unlike the others, he had no tattoos. He also seemed a bit younger than the others, which made it likely that he had joined the group later.

"In the ass," the second boy laughed. The boys threateningly strutted our way. Scarlet, Emma, Renee and I dropped our bikes and stood in front of Skylar and Nikki. We had complained when they had self-defense lessons during gym class, but now we were glad we'd followed them. Nikki still had to go to physical therapy and take it easy. The fractures had healed, but that didn't mean they had regained their old strength. Skylar wasn't there for the lessons and didn't know what to do. When one of the boys grabbed Renee by the arm, she kneed him, grabbed his wrist and twisted it between his shoulder blades. Skylar and Nikki slowly backed away while we held the boys back. Before I knew it, I was pinned to the ground with a hand on my neck that was closing off my windpipe. Nikki took the tiara off her head and threw it at the boy's head. The tip of the tiara hit him in the temple and he fell sideways off of me. As soon as the hand was off my neck and I had caught my breath a little, I jumped up. After fifteen minutes, the boys were on the ground.

"Get out of here!" I shouted. We quickly ran away from the boys, pulling our bikes, and only after a few blocks did we start walking more slowly.

"And that's why I don't like walking the streets at night," Skylar whined. Nikki had gotten a flat tire a few blocks from school. That was really inconvenient at the moment, but there was nothing we could do about it.

"Oh well, it turned out okay," Renee said. She wasn't too worried. She knew that as long as we stuck together, we could handle anything.

"Nikki, here's your tiara." I handed it to Nikki, who took it with a smile and put it back on her head.

"Thank you." I quickly took the girls home before something else would happen.

Brooke

Jeremy and I were having a blast walking home, walking our bikes and laughing our heads off. As soon as we looked at each other, we started laughing again.

"You really did that?!" I asked between laughs. Jeremy was telling me about something that had happened at school a while ago.

"Hey! It wasn't my fault he ran into me," Jeremy said, throwing his hands up in the air in defense. He just managed to grab his bike in time. I started laughing again. Jimmy had offered to drive the others home, which was closer to his own house, so Jeremy drove me home.

"No, "accidentally" spilling a drink on someone is definitely funny." Jeremy started laughing too.

"Okay, maybe it is funny." We turned the corner and saw the bakery coming into view. I neatly parked my bike in the shed and walked to the side where there was a door that led straight to the second floor, since we lived above the bakery. You could also get there through the bakery, but we mainly used the side entrance. Before I could put my key in the lock, the door was pulled open.

"Brooke!" Taylor came to me and threw her arms around my neck.

"Where's that fiancée of yours?" I asked as I put my arms around her.

"He's asleep," Taylor laughed. I shrugged her shoulders, what else could I expect from my lazy brother.

"Oh well, what else is new, at least for now. Things will be different when the baby comes." Taylor looked behind me and waved.

"Hey Jeremy." Jeremy waved back enthusiastically.

"Hey Taylor. Brooke, I'm off, see you on Monday." I walked with him to his bike.

"Thanks for dropping me off, see you on Monday." He unlocked his bike and cycled away.

"Where's Katie?" I asked when I came back. Taylor looked up from her phone.

"She's staying over at Daisy's." We walked upstairs together.

"What do you hope it will be?" I couldn't help but look at Taylor's belly, which still showed no signs.

"A girl, boys are so annoying. But I don't really care, as long as it's healthy." The news had hit us all like a ton of bricks, but now that we'd had a little more time to get used to it, the idea of a baby in the family had become more and more appealing.

"Just look at Chase," I laughed.

I hummed as I grabbed some cereal.

"Morning Brooke." My brother walked into the kitchen.

"Morning C," I replied as I put the carton of milk back in the fridge.

"Aww, you made cereal, you're so sweet," Chase said as he grabbed the bowl. Before he could take a bite, I grabbed the bowl from him and sat down at the counter.

"Get your own cereal." I stuck my tongue out at him.

"You're so childish." Before I could stop myself, I rolled my eyes.

"Hey sister-in-law." Taylor came into the kitchen and saw the brother and sister bored each other.

"Hey Tay, your fiancé is annoying." She stifled a laugh and looked at us.

"I'll make you some cereal." She walked over to the cupboard where the bowls were, grabbed one and filled it with cereal.

"You spoil him too much, it should be the other way around," I laughed.

"Oh well." She poured the milk in and handed the bowl to Chase.

"Hey Chase, have you thought of names yet?" The subject change might be best to avoid any disagreement.

"Uh…no, I hadn't really thought of that."

"Can Katie and I think of names too?" It might also have been better not to mention that I had already done so.

"Of course you can," Taylor said with a laugh. I did my happy dance after I had put a spoonful of cereal in my mouth.

"Hey peeps, what's up?" Katie said. She walked into the kitchen and threw her bag on the chair next to me.

"We can think of names for the baby."

"Pikachu for a boy," Chase said. Taylor's face showed pure horror.

"I'm not naming my son after a Pokémon." We burst out laughing.

"Maybe Charlie for a girl," Katie suggested. She hadn't really thought about it yet. In her opinion, the parents should come up with a name themselves, and it is not up to others to do so.

"And Ashton for a boy," I suggested.

Auriana

I slowly woke up and felt something harder than my pillow under my cheek. I carefully looked up and saw that I was lying in Jake's arms with my head on his chest. With a smile on my face I lay back down but a knock on the door made me sigh. I carefully wriggled out of Jake's arms and opened the door.

"Hey Rose, what's up?" I tried to keep my voice low so as not to wake Jake.

"Grandma wants you and Jake to come downstairs for breakfast."

"We're coming, go downstairs and we'll come as soon as he wakes up." Rose walked away and I gently closed the door behind her and walked back to the bed. I gently shook him by the shoulder. No reaction. I tried again but this time a bit harder. Still no reaction. I leaned over him and pressed my lips to his. His eyes flew open and I let go of his lips to look at him.

"Why are you kissing me?" Jake asked angrily. I didn't understand and looked at him questioningly. Jake burst out laughing and wrapped me in his arms.

"I was just joking." I angrily wriggled out of his arms, punched him in the shoulder and walked to the window which I looked out of. Oh, oh, he thought. Jake jumped out of bed and walked over to me. Jake wrapped his arms around my waist, pulled me close and kissed my neck. He felt me relax in his arms and I turned around.

"That wasn't funny!" I said, glaring at him.

"You know I love you, right?" My look changed from angry to challenging.

"Prove it," I said. Jake didn't need to be asked twice. Slowly and gallantly, he pressed a loving kiss to my lips. The blood rushed to my cheeks. Man! I hate the effect he has on me, I thought. He pressed another kiss to my cheek and looked at me.

"Do you believe me now?" he laughed. I nodded slowly, not trusting my voice.

"We have to go downstairs," I managed to say after a while.
