Chapter 131 - The Physical Toll

That day Liebe didn't go to class and just sat on his bed thinking about what he had done. The act took a toll on his body — it was as if his body itself was rejecting what he had done. All through the night he constantly vomited, as the act of killing others had killed part of his own soul.

Then, around 7 a.m., there was a knock. Liebe opened the door — it was Alysa.

Liebe said, "Good morning."

Alysa said, "Good morning."

Liebe said, "Good morning."

Alysa said, "You don't look so good."

Liebe said, "It's just that I'm a bit sick today."

Alysa asked, "What happened? Why do you feel so different, and why does it look like you've lost some weight as well?"

Liebe said, "It's nothing."

Alysa said, "If it's ok, I don't mind skipping class and taking care of you, since Licht already went to class."

Liebe said, "No need," and closed the door.

Alysa called from outside, "I made your favorite breakfast today — waffles and chicken with syrup. It's okay if you don't want to talk; I understand. I'm leaving it on the floor, and well, since you insist I'm going to class. But if things get worse, just call me. I'll be back in a second, OK? And Liebe, don't push yourself so much. See you later."

From inside, the voice of Arteos said to Liebe, "Human, you really are a complexity. There is so much in your mind; you want to say so much to her, yet you can't, because you are afraid she will see you differently once she finds out the truth. Yet you want to tell her, and you know how she will react — that's why you aren't telling her."

Liebe said, "Shut up, devil."

Arteos said, "You are the one who summoned me to talk, human."

Liebe said, "Answer me — what's wrong with my body?"

Arteos said, "Simple, human: your body is rejecting what you did. You are too kind of a soul, and after what you did your body can't accept it. So your very self is disgusted with you, and as a result you are suffering. Don't worry — you will heal soon enough, but it will take at least seven hours before it stops. Till then, it's best if you try to relax."

Liebe said, "I understand."

Arteos said, "In the meanwhile, I want to ask you something."

Liebe said, "What is it?"

Arteos asked, "Why is it that a human like you can be so evil and pure at the same time, and still have such an untainted heart? Tell me, how do you truly feel about that human girl?"

Liebe said, "I don't understand myself."

Arteos said, "I see. It was quite similar for that Lilith human as well."

Liebe said, "What?"

Arteos said, "Yes. I have been your mother's aire for over thirty years, and well, I know how your mother fell in love with your father."

Liebe said, "What — how, really?"

Arteos said, "Yes, because she wouldn't shut up about meeting some human and how he felt different. She kept on blabbering about him to me all day, and it was annoying. For you it's different — I understand you have feelings for her, but unlike your mother, you don't want to speak about certain topics."

Liebe said, "Okay then."

Arteos said, "If you truly care about something, the best way to protect it is to keep it as far away as possible from yourself."

Liebe said, "Okay, that's kind of poetic, even though I'm not a huge fan of poetry."

Arteos said, "Same here. I'm more artistic than poetic."

Liebe said, "Well, you are called Arteos for a reason."

Arteos said, "Ohhh, yeah — that's right."

Then Liebe rushed to the washroom again and vomited. After that, he realized something, and before he knew it he was rushing toward the forge. He used his communicator and called Alysa while she was in class. Hearing her communicator, she simply said, "Sir, may I go to the washroom?" and left, then flew toward the dorm, thinking Liebe was terribly sick.

Liebe said into the communicator, "Alysa, come to the forge."

After entering the forge, he laid his eyes on the Drop of Death — its pieces were scattered on the floor after Liebe had used it. After returning, he had thrown it on the ground in disgust following his purging of the corrupt Gabriel Faction. Seeing the armor brought back the disgust, but now, even though only about twelve hours had passed, seeing his precious creation laid on the ground he realized something: because of his acts he shouldn't treat his precious creation so inconsiderately.

So, with care, he picked up the pieces. After placing the armor pieces on the stand he said, "I'm sorry, Drop of Death. I treated you so harshly as if you were created by me — it's my fault."

Then Alysa entered the forge. Alysa asked, "Liebe, are you all right?"

Liebe said, "Yeah. A bit."
