Chapter 115 - Unspoken Feelings

It took a few days, but Liebe's wounds healed.

Licht said, "Hard to believe someone knew your weakness, since it's one of the most guarded secrets in the Knighthood. Even most members of Black Rose don't know it."

Liebe said, "Someone is a traitor. And it's someone in my circle."

Licht said, "Is it possible Gabriel orchestrated the assassination attempt?"

Liebe said, "It's impossible for him to be the one directly behind it. He doesn't have the necessary intellect. But it's possible he is working with someone."

Licht said, "Yeah, sorry—I forgot just how stupid he was."

Liebe said, "Same. But whoever it is, I have an idea."

Licht said, "What?"

Liebe said, "She said, and I quote: You, Liebe Faust, should never have existed."

Licht said, "What's so special about it?"

Liebe said, "They clearly don't know my proper name, which is Liebe Al Faust. But they knew my weakness, and for some reason, they were dedicated enough to give their whole life in the process."

Licht said, "Any ideas who it could be?"

Liebe said, "My guess is it might be someone from 8 years ago, during the capital incident. I caused one of the knights to resign."

Licht said, "That raises the question—how many more know about it?"

Liebe said, "The real question is, how many more know, who are they, and what are their motives?"

Then Alysa said, "Hey Liebe, before class, would you come to the new dorm kitchen?"

Liebe said, "Can it wait? Since you know we're investigating."

Alysa said, "Actually no, it can't wait. And… mind if it's alone?"

Licht said, "Sure, I don't mind missing."

Liebe said, "Okay then, does 3 hours from now sound fine?"

Alysa said, "Okay then. I have something personal to take care of until then."

Liebe said, "Alright, then I have to clean this mess."

Later, in the kitchen—

Licht said, "So what could be so important that you wanted to talk to Liebe in the middle of investigating a murder attempt? Could it be possible that you're behind this?"

Alysa said, "No."

Licht said, "Don't worry, I was just kidding. But I can guess what you wanted to say."

Alysa said, "That night… I was truly scared."

Licht said, "I understand. If you want to quit, it's okay. I'll tell Liebe, and you'll never have to see our faces again."

Alysa said, "That's not what I'm talking about. I wasn't scared when I saw the assassin, because I knew Liebe would be there to protect us. But when I saw him falling with the dagger just 13 mm away from his heart… at that moment, I knew it was real. I realized there were actual chances of him dying. And seeing that holy dagger—it broke my heart into pieces."

Licht said, "I understand how you feel. What strange lives we lead. A girl whose heart beats for someone who only considers her as a childhood friend… an idiot who seeks the knighthoods of the past… and a sword with a heart (me). We don't know when our next meal will be, or if it may be our last—always placing others before ourselves."

Alysa said, "I just wanted to ask him one thing… if he will really be okay."

Licht said, "Okay then, good luck. And good to see you're making his favorite coffee."

Later, Liebe and Alysa sat down in the Dorm 2 living room.

Alysa put down the glass.

Liebe said, "Ohh, rosemary coffee. And it's black, roasted for more than 5 hours. How did you get this? It would appear I had forgotten what a great cook you are. And exactly how well do you know me?"

Alysa said, "Yeah… and that's why I wanted to ask you something."
