Chapter 1 - The Beginning

Wait, why am I being killed again? Oh, yeah, now I remember how I could ever forget it. Maybe being at death's door made my memory a little hazy for a moment, but I still remember it as clear as a day when I first met that man, what was his name again, well, it doesn't matter because that same man is killing me now.

Meeting this man was and is the biggest regret of my life. I never understood why, whenever I met this man, I felt like I was being controlled, like the words were mine, but the thoughts behind them were not, women who couldn't even move my heart before I suddenly found them irresistible.

Again and again, I clashed with this man, yet I was the one always defeated. Honestly, none of this even matters anymore. I am just too tired even to care anymore. I want to rest now.

As for regrets, I have none. Why would I ever regret words that were never mine to begin with.

Ding!

Congratulations host!

You have been bound to the resistance system!

What am I hallucinating now, ahhh! Forget it, I don't even care anymore, just let me die peacefully.

HAHAHA! Death is for the ordinary; now that you have me, everything will fall into place for you!

Open your eyes, Xiao Fang! I am the reward of your suffering!

And suddenly everything went black. Fang thought it was just him falling into the embrace of death, and he embraced it with happiness, for death wasn't the end of Fang's life; it was just a means for him to reincarnate and get his revenge.

Yet, what he found in this darkness wasn't cold or darkness but rather an embrace as warm as his mother's. Even though everything was dark, he felt like he was surrounded by light.

Then, he started hearing some words like someone was calling him, and without any hesitation, he started walking in that direction, not because he knew what was there, but because he felt like he belonged there.

After walking for a while, he finally heard what that voice was whispering.

"Little bird"

"Little bird"

Hearing these words, Fang suddenly started running in the direction of the voice, for these were no ordinary words; this was the name his mother used to call him.

He could still remember his mother, her frail-looking body, pale hands, her laugh, and her big smile. He could still remember the days when he felt like being a young master of the Xiao clan was too much for him, so he would just run and hide in his mother's embrace.

His mother used to read him stories about heroes, immortal cultivators, and heaven destroying beasts, and whatnot. She always told him to grow up to be a kind and merciful man.

Remembering those days suddenly filled Fang with hate because while time was beautiful, it didn't last long. How his mother died on that bed, waiting for his father.

Remembering his father, Fang suddenly felt nothing for how he could hate the man he had never even met. Honestly, he couldn't even remember his father's name.

In reality, he was the 3rd son of the family, and his mother was his a mistress. His father already had a wife who was from some noble sect. And then he took a liking to his mother, which led to the birth of Xiao Fang.

His childhood wasn't miserable, but it wasn't a pleasant one either, because no matter what he did or how hard he tried, he could never catch his father's eye.

He wanted to impress his father so that he might start to spend more time with his mother.

His father's first wife's name was Su Zhan. She had 2 sons and 1 daughter. All of them had a 2-year gap, with the daughter being the youngest. Same age as Fang.

Fang tried his best to get along with them, but to them, his presence was like that of an insect. He was acknowledged by them to be there. But was just not important enough for them to pay him any mind, just like an insect.

Yet, he tried again and again, whether it was by acting cute in front of his sister or by being all respectful towards his brothers.

He thought maybe his brothers and sister had the same warmth as his mother carried. All in all, he just wanted to get along with them to complete his family.

But those were all the dreams of a child, and soon he realized that in the eyes of others, he was just a bas*ard. Someone who was a mistake and should not have been born in the first place.

Yet, all these things didn't move Fang; rather, he stopped caring about it all. He just spent his free time with his mother when he wasn't training, and tried his best to become someone strong.

Soon, he realized that living in Xiao's estate was nothing but a harsh life for his mother, which made him even more determined to become strong. All for the reason of taking his mother away from that living hell, he used to call home.

The times were tough, but he found peace in his mother.

Alas, fate was still against him, and soon his mother fell ill with an incurable disease. He was crushed again; what little hope he had in his life was dying in front of him every day.

Even after all this, his father never came. No, it would be a miracle if his father even cared for his mother for a moment, but what was more shocking for his little heart was that a clan this big with thousands of members, yet not a single soul cared for him or his mother.

Then the tragedy befell, and his world collapsed when his mother died in his arms. He cried until his voice gave out, just begging his mother not to leave him alone. He wanted to tell her how scared he was of being alone.

Yet, his prayers went unheard. The only words his mother told him before her death were for him to grow up and become strong enough so that he could be kind to others.

When it was time for his mother's burial, the only person beside him was old lady named Meng. She was 60 years old and their only servant.

She was loyal to his mother and took care of both of them. Now that his mother was dead, Meng was his sole caretaker.

All this broke something inside Fang, but Fang still smiled not for the world but for his mother, who he now believed was watching him from heaven.

Remembering her mother's final words, Fang started to work hard like a madman to achieve the goal his mother had wanted him to achieve, and then he met that man. His name was etched into fang's very soul.

That one name that Fang could never forget, and that was Xiao Chen, because of whom he died; he was the reason why Fang had lived a life as a prisoner of his own body.

Xiao Chen was the reason he could never fulfill his goal.

He never knew why, but whenever he met Xiao Chen, he lost control of his body and mouth, which led to him being hated by everyone. He started to feel more irrational by the day.

Every turn he took, he was met with defeat from Xiao Chen; it wasn't the defeats that made him irrational, but rather something else, something that was never his to begin with but now resided within him.

Soon, that thing that resided within him took control over his body and took his soul as a prisoner, while his very own body became the prison.

For 10 years, Fang's soul was tortured while being chained inside his body.

He could see how that being that was now the master of his body did every imaginable bad deed, and the one taking the fall for it was none other than Fang.

But what broke him even more was the fact that by the 9th year (1 year before his death), people started to call him the greatest evil born from humanity.

His dream of being a kind and merciful man was slowly crushed into pieces before his very own eyes, by his very own body.

And then finally death came for him, or more so for the being controlling his body.

While dying, Fang was filled with hatred. Hatred for the family that abandoned his mom, the father who was never there for him or his mother, and Xiao Chen, who was the reason for his sufferings.

While thinking all this, he suddenly reached a valley. Looking into the valley, he could see nothing but darkness.

It wasn't like the darkness he was surrounded by, but rather it felt like there was nothing there, like existence itself came to a halt inside that valley.

Just when he was thinking about what to do next, suddenly he heard his mother's voice again, and without thinking even once, he jumped straight into the valley.

After jumping into the valley, Fang felt as if his powers were leaving him. Before, the least he could do was control his body, but now even that seemed impossible.

Then suddenly he heard another sound, a strange yet familiar one. He knew he had heard this sound before, but he couldn't quite put his finger on where he had heard it.

DING!

CONGRATULATIONS HOST!

You have awakened the Resistance system!

After hearing these words, Fang remembered these were the same words he had heard before dying. This sent Fang into an even greater shock.

Oh God! I thought I would be reborn as someone normal, and then make my way up to the top to get my revenge on Xiao Chen, but now it feels like I am taking birth as someone mentally challenged. He frowned.

Umm.....

Host, you are not going mad, but rather receiving the reward for your sufferings!.

Oh yeah, and why should I believe you?

Well, host, didn't you always have suspicions that you were being controlled by Xiao Chen. Well, what if I tell you you were right and I can help you get your revenge?.

First of all, I wasn't suspicious of Xiao Chen; I was sure it was Xiao Chen behind it all. Second, why should I believe you?

Well, ok, to the first point said the system. As for the second, do you have any other choices other than placing your trust in me right now? Asked the system.

"Then tell me what you can do to help me."

It's really simple, host, I will reverse time and send you back in time before it all begins. I will send you 10 years into the past, while the day might be random, but you will be back in your body.

Hearing this, Fang scoffed. Would it even matter? I would just be that 'being' prisoner again and would have to go through all that torture.

Worry not, host, I will take care of everything, and it's not like you have anything to lose anymore.

So, what's the deal? I get my revenge, then I become your slave or something?

No, host. As I said, I am the reward of your suffering; you have already paid the price for this miracle, and there are no strings attached.

As if, but whatever, you are right that I have nothing to lose anymore, so I might as well try this so-called 'miracle'.

So, how do I begin?

Just say the word 'ACCEPT' in a loud and stern voice, and that's it.

Hearing this, Fang, without any hesitation, shouted the word 'ACCEPT' for he had no expectations of it working.

Honestly, he had already been disappointed enough by life and thought it was all a joke played by his mind, to not get overwhelmed by the fact that it was dying.

Then suddenly, Fang felt like he could feel his surroundings again, like his control over his senses was slowly but surely coming back, and then he finally started to feel his body again.

After getting the full control back, he felt like he was lying somewhere, somewhere soft. Before he could open his eyes, he felt someone playing with his hair.

This shocked Fang a little, for he had no one this close in his entire life.

Who was this person ruffling his? He thought to himself.

Am I even in the right body?

Wait, maybe I reincarnated into someone else.

HAHA! He thought to himself bittersweetly, I knew that system, all of that was a lie, so I did get reincarnated.

Just as he was thinking all this, he suddenly heard a laugh, and it was like his whole being came to a halt.
