ROAR!
The upended ground of the stadium shook once again.
Tearing through the dusty darkness, a twenty-foot-tall monster emerged, its beak-like mouth opening wide toward the ceiling as it roared. Then, with one more step, its arms appeared, too. Clawed, titanic, and longer than its own body. With the sheer size of those clawed hands, they looked less like arms and more like wings.
An inhumane growl escaped the monster's throat, the surrounding darkness fueling its rage and size even more.
Yet, despite its bloody eyes, there was a sanity in its behavior.
Fumikage Tokoyami, embedded in Dark Shadow's chest, controlled the huge transformation with his limbs as veins throbbed on his head.
Even before the Sports Festival, he had created an Ultimate Move — Abyssal Black Body — donning the Dark Shadow like an armor to make up for his close-combat weakness.
However, Battle Royale taught him that it wouldn't be enough.
It might certainly help him cross many obstacles in his career, but… it wouldn't be enough. Not when most of his classmates were already progressing faster than he was, creating even more Ultimate Moves or making the existing ones stronger.
So, instead of calling it a day, Tokoyami had begun working on another Ultimate Move right after Battle Royale.
The fact that he didn't need to spend more time on his Abyssal Black Body, because of his compatibility with Dark Shadow, had helped him, too, in this.
And the clear target of that newly found zeal to become stronger became his old trauma.
During the Training Camp, Tokoyami had lost control of Dark Shadow, who had ended up injuring his friends, further exacerbating the situation. He had never wanted it to happen again, the matter terrorizing him somewhere deep in his heart.
Despite that traumatic event, there was no denying that Dark Shadow's humongous transformation had defeated a Quirk Amplification Device-wearing Villain singlehandedly, too.
So, what if he could somehow control how much bigger Dark Shadow became in the darkness?
It wouldn't work, he had known.
Not as long as Dark Shadow kept fighting with himself, trying not to lose control.
Then, what if he could do it for Dark Shadow? What if he could let Dark Shadow work on controlling its size and rationality, while he controlled the movements?
It… could work, Tokoyami had concluded.
Sure, the resulting agility wouldn't nearly be as great as Dark Shadow controlling his movements by himself. However, the resulting strength could make up for the drop in agility more than enough, depending upon the circumstances.
All that had remained after reaching that thought was to experiment with his Quirk.
And that's what Tokoyami had spent most of his time on after the Sports Festival, taking help from Luke and Todoroki.
Luke could use his Delay to make sure that Dark Shadow wouldn't instantly explode to its full, irrational size. Meanwhile, Todoroki could control the intensity of his flames to dim or brighten the surroundings within a closed field.
With both of them scheduled to attempt their Exams next semester, they had eagerly accepted Tokoyami's request.
The current transformation, executed under the plan that 2-A had worked on during the last week, was the result of all that training.
Of course, Tokoyami had needed to change the name of his Ultimate Move, as the Abysmal Black Body hadn't been created to branch off to become something entirely new.
Ultimate Move —
Most of the lights on the ceiling directly above him had already gone out.
Even those that had remained around that dark spot flickered, giving the entire stadium a horror-movie type of look.
A setting that… Tokoyami reveled in.
— Black Abyss —
As Dark Shadow continued to growl above, fighting off the madness, Tokoyami squeezed his toes, digging them into Dark Shadow's body.
Simultaneously, the lower part of the humongous beast, which resembled a serpent, gained two feet-like protrusions, giving the entire lower body a lizard-like appearance.
Combined with the top's wing-like huge claws and Dark Shadow's beaky mouth, it made them look like…
— Dark Dragon!
Tokoyami pushed against the ground.
The dragon's feet annihilated the ground.
A loud BOOM echoed as Dark Dragon shot out of the crater that had appeared after Yo's use of Tremoring Earth, and landed outside.
Hearts gave out.
Even Yo from Ketsubutsu stepped back, Dark Dragon's bloody red eyes falling upon him.
"Move!" Someone shouted from far away, then. "I will take of this bird!"
Tokoyami lifted his head, along with Dark Shadow, and saw a row of students standing on top of half a hill, all dressed in ninja-like costumes.
"Seijin High School…" Yo thought aloud.
Then, without thinking more about it, he made a strategic retreat, deciding to go around the dark beast and attack other UA students.
Meanwhile, the Seijin student, wearing a red ninja costume, took out several bolts, holding them between his fingers.
"Here!" the ninja shouted from afar, throwing the bolts like daggers. "Eat this — YOU STUPID BIRD!"
The bolts rotated as they traced a direct path toward the Dark Dragon.
And the moment they crossed half the distance, they suddenly expanded in size, becoming as big as a car.
Tokoyami instantly crossed his arms, the Dark Shadow's clawed arms mimicking the action.
Loud BOOMs and BANGs resounded across the stadium, another cloud of dust rising as the dozens of bolts landed on the dark, red-eyed beast.
A silence fell over all the students watching it happen, their breath caught in their throats.
Then, just as the red ninja from Seijin was about to laugh in victory, the cloud of dust dissipated with a swing of a clawed hand.
"That…" Tokoyami growled, uncrossing his arms, narrowing his eyes at Seijin's students. "… hurt."
Run!
That was the first thought that appeared in all the students' minds, the beast's blood-red eyes sending a chill running down their spines.
Before they could react, though, Dark Dragon grabbed two of the incredibly heavy bolts like balls and…
… threw them toward the Seijin students, flattening what had remained of that hill!
