Chapter 9 - Ch. 9 — Homeroom of the Darkest Moon

Date: First Day of Class

Location: Room A-1, Grand Academy

They assigned us into five classes.

A to E. A is the highest — no surprises there.

All of the top sixteen landed in Class A.

Our homeroom teacher walked in without a word.

Not many could silence a room without speaking. He did.

Long coat. Cold gaze. Quiet footsteps.

He looked more like a legend than a professor.

> "I am David," he said. "Your instructor, evaluator, and overseer. Youngest Magnus of the Council. Disciple of the Witch of Daylight — Morgan Le Fay. You are expected to listen. And to survive."

No warm greetings. No false encouragement. Just truth.

But when he started teaching...

We listened.

He unraveled spells like riddles. Connected history to logic.

He wasn't just powerful — he understood what made power dangerous.

No one spoke after he left.

We began introductions.

Mostly mages. A few sword-users. Two heavy weapon wielders.

One spirit summoner — Yukari. She sat quietly, folding her hands in her lap.

She looked at me once. I'm not sure why it felt familiar.

Riya smiled warmly at her.

Anna tried to lighten the mood with jokes, bright as ever — small but impossible to ignore.

Alice was silent, observant as always.

Leander leaned back in his chair like he'd been born in it.

When class ended, Leander slapped my shoulder.

> "Forest party. Come on, we earned it."

I raised an eyebrow.

> "No. Seriously. Just some food, no death traps. Maybe."

Yukari was invited too.

Lily declined. Politely, of course — she always is. But I could sense a wall I wasn't ready to climb.

The forest was alive with laughter.

Anna brought sweets — too many. Riya conjured soft lights into the trees.

Elric, though not here yet, had apparently taught Leander a campfire spell. It worked. Barely.

Gideon showed up later. He didn't speak much, but stayed close.

We sat in a circle, eating, talking.

No duels. No exams. Just warmth.

> "So," Leander said loudly, "should I tell them how our tactician broke a record and broke Alice's ego?"

Anna choked on juice.

Riya covered her face.

Even Alice gave him a sideways glare — but she didn't deny it.

We laughed.

Not because it was clever — but because it felt easy.

For a while, I sat back and just listened.

To voices. To wind. To something like peace.

I'm not a stranger to life.

I enjoy it — in quiet moments like this.

No plans. No checkmate. Just friends.
