Chapter 3 - Silver Tongue

It took Martin a full minute of cursing and the constant gentle breeze to let out all of his anger.

He looked at his own body. He wore simple clothing made of stiff material, a cape on his back, a simple dagger on his left side, and a sling bag with some money inside dangled on his other side.

'It's really just a game, Martin, there's nothing to be angry about…'

Now that he could think more clearly, Martin took a good look at his status screen.

First of all, he decided to let the most annoying thing get out of the way.

'Let's see what this Elderly Resilience thing is.'

=====================

Elderly Resilience

A skill that a seasoned man will get after going through the hurdles of life. The longer you stay still and do not move your feet, the higher the bonus you will receive on your vitality stat.

Due to an elder's deteriorating health, the skill made sure the owner wouldn't die easily from simply lounging around or falling from a slippery bathroom floor.

*Status' Note: Don't die too early from stupid things, old man.

=====================

"..."

All the dissipated rage almost came back after reading the skill's description, but Martin held strong.

Instead of letting out another series of curses, Martin continued reading the description of his other unique skill.

=====================

Magic IDE

A skill gifted to someone who thought of magic very systematically, instead of thinking of it as a god-given miracle.

An IDE (Integrated Development Environment) that is specialized for Magic (Includes AI to assist the user). The owner of the skill will be capable of analyzing magic, copying, and editing the analyzed skill. With enough assets, the user would also be able to create their own magic.

*Status' Note: You better not miss that semicolon, lest you want your spell to explode.

=====================

Martin activated the skill, and a text editor appeared in front of him.

'This looks very similar to the app that the IT guys always have on their monitors.'

With his will, letters began to appear on the magical, floating user interface, but nothing happened.

'I guess I will need to analyze spells first to start learning the programming language to use magic.'

Martin then proceeds to see his attribute stats. His passive and active skills were empty, as expected, as he had just started the game.

========================

Attributes:

Vitality: 1,1

Mana: 10,000

Strength: 2

Agility: 1,3

Endurance: 0,7

Intelligence: 4

Charisma: 7

=======================

'Isn't that a lot of zeroes?'

Martin was clueless about the number of values his attribute stats had, but seeing 4 digits amidst the 1-digit attributes piqued his interest.

His other stats seemed ordinary, other than his charisma, which was significantly higher than the others.

But his endurance stat definitely looked under average.

'Cardio is a myth created by fake fitness influencers…' Was Martin's response when he saw the stat.

Martin noted his status screen before closing it. Now, he was ready to go on his fantasy adventure in this virtual world.

Not knowing where he was, Martin took a look around his surroundings.

The sun was still rising from the horizon, and the warmth told him it was still in the morning.

Amongst the trees that surrounded him from all sides, a dirt road was visible between the trees.

Martin followed it, then found out that he was actually inside the woods near a city.

'Now that's a medieval city if you ever see one.'

Sturdy walls that towered about a dozen meters tall, guards with full body armor manning the entrance gate, and people lining up to enter the city.

Martin wasn't close enough to see details, but he could see their fantasy-esque clothing from dozens of meters away.

There was even a bird-like raptor creature pulling the wooden carriages instead of ordinary horses.

'Become an adventurer and see the world, huh? I guess that's true, there's definitely so much to see in this world.'

Martin walked towards the city, his heart beat faster and faster as he got closer to the towering walls of the city.

As a manager with many years of experience, Martin had definitely gone past the stage where one was nervous when going into an interview.

But being interviewed by full-armoured guards holding real spears that could decapitate you in a single swing was certainly not in the long list of experiences Martin had.

"What are you planning to do here?" The guard, who looked barely adult, sternly asked Martin.

"I'm planning to become an adventurer, sir." Martin smiled and slightly bowed his head.

"Become an adventurer? You are not one already? You're going to start adventuring at this age?"

Martin's brows twitched a few times, but he didn't let out the words that wanted to come out of his chest.

"Yes, sir. My mother was quite protective, you see, and she only let me go on my own after so long. Which I did the second I was allowed to, I have enough people calling me mama's boy."

Making bullshit on the spot was one skill Martin was proud of, and his status seemed to agree with him.

=======

Silver Tongue Skill Acquired.

It's not the skill that made you spew out convincing lies, it's because nice sounding logical bullshit came out of your mouth that the skill manifested itself.

Allows the user to create more believable lies on the spot. The higher the level of the skill, the more believable the lie is.

=======

'I'm not actually offended by this. This skill is a recognition of my long years of experience…' Martin nodded in approval.

The guard raised his eyebrows, grabbed a device from the table beside him, and told Martin to put his hand on the crystal orb.

The guard seemed skeptical at first, but it all changed after reading the bits from his status.

The crystal orb glowed a faint white light, and showed Martin's level, job, and job history, which showed 0, '-', and '-'.

No words came out of the guard's mouth. He took pity on the old man in front of him and gently held his shoulder instead.

"You're not joking when you said that… I'm so sorry for what you've been through, old man. May you regain your lost childhood as an adventurer."
