Chapter 196 - Chapter 196: If You’re Going to Rob, Rob Big

The Soulfall Mountain Range lay in the northwestern region of Central Plains. Shrouded in a perpetual cold mist, even sunlight struggled to penetrate this desolate land. Vicious beasts roamed freely, and the entire mountain range was considered a dangerous zone within the Central Plains. At its deepest point, nestled in the thickest part of the icy haze, sat a massive black hall—one of the Hall of Souls' branch divisions.

However, unlike the small division located in the Nether City, this branch deep within Soulfall Mountain was on an entirely different level. That one had merely two Dou Zun as guards. This one? Over five Dou Zuns were stationed here. Such a force was powerful enough to annihilate first-rate factions like Wind Lightning Pavilion.

And yet, on this very day, the skies above the Soulfall Mountains suddenly dimmed. A colossal transparent light tower descended from the heavens, enveloping the black hall. Within mere seconds, the light disappeared—but it didn't vanish alone.

So too did the precious soul essence hidden inside the branch vanish without a trace.

It wasn't just the soul essence. All the protectors and soul forms stationed inside had completely evaporated from existence. Only the corpses of the elders remained—but even they were devoid of any soul fluctuations.

All of this had occurred in the blink of an eye. The attack had been so swift that even the five Dou Zuns stationed there had no time to respond. Their souls had been obliterated before they could realize what was happening.

And this wasn't an isolated incident.

Earlier that day, over a dozen branch divisions had been destroyed in exactly the same way—by Xiao Yan.

With the terrifying speed of the Nine Nether Wings and his control over spatial power, Xiao Yan was able to traverse thousands of kilometers in a flash. From the moment he began his campaign to the time he crushed the Soulfall Mountain division, less than half an hour had passed. At this rate, he might truly be able to wipe out every Hall of Souls division in Central Plains in a single day.

For now, the ones he had destroyed were mostly standard branch divisions. But some, like the one in Soulfall Mountain, were what the Hall of Souls referred to as "Disha Halls"—larger and more critical than average divisions. There were twenty-four Disha Halls across Central Plains.

Above them were the even more formidable "Heaven Gang Halls," of which there were only three—categorized as Heaven, Earth, and Human. The Hall of Souls' main headquarters was the Heaven Hall. Though the Earth and Human Halls weren't quite as prominent, each was guarded by at least one Dou Saint-level powerhouse. Outside of the Ancient Clans, no force on the continent could dream of taking one down singlehandedly.

Maybe the Pill Tower had that strength, but they were too bound by tradition, always clinging to so-called neutrality. In Xiao Yan's eyes, it was only a matter of time before the Hall of Souls wiped them out. He still remembered that in his past life, the Pill Tower had fallen to Hun Dai'er. Even the supposed Pill Ancestor—a being formed from a peak-tier ninth-rank Pill—had been forcefully refined and absorbed by her.

Xiao Yan couldn't deny that even he had coveted that Pill Ancestor. A pill nearing the legendary Golden Nine Rank held deadly temptation even for someone of Dou Saint caliber. If he could obtain and refine it, he'd likely break through to five-star Dou Saint within a short time.

Of course, that was just wishful thinking for now. The Pill Ancestor was at least a five-star Dou Saint, possibly even stronger. If it came to a real confrontation, who would end up refining whom was still up in the air. Not to mention, Xiao Yan currently lacked the ability to fully refine such a pill, even if he got his hands on it.

By the end of the day, Xiao Yan had utterly wiped out every Hall of Souls division in Central Plains—save for the three Heaven Gang Halls. Even the twenty-four Disha Halls had been looted clean. His efficiency and speed were so overwhelming that even Hun Miesheng was left dumbfounded after hearing the report.

He hadn't even realized the Hall had so many branches in Central Plains!

After razing all those divisions, Xiao Yan finally found a quiet place to rest and tally his gains. On his person were over a hundred soul essence clusters of various sizes. If news of this spread, it would cause a massive uproar across the continent. Yet now, they all belonged to him alone.

For the current Xiao Yan, destroying branch divisions was as easy as flipping his hand. The only real drain was the sheer effort required to fly repeatedly across Central Plains within a single day. If not for Flame Mantra having evolved to the Heaven Rank Advanced level, he might not have been able to sustain the high-speed flight enabled by the Nine Nether Wings.

After meditating and recuperating, Xiao Yan returned to peak condition. He could clearly feel the efficiency of his evolved Flame Mantra now far surpassed the version he had crafted in his past life. That alone left him deeply curious—who in the world had created such a mysterious and powerful cultivation technique? He doubted even Dou Emperors could accomplish such a feat.

Pushing these thoughts aside, Xiao Yan began plotting his next move.

It had already been a day. Even if the Hall of Souls was slow to react, they must have started to notice the radio silence from so many divisions. Before they could take action, Xiao Yan planned to destroy one more.

Now, only the Heaven, Earth, and Human Halls remained.

He naturally ruled out attacking the Heaven Hall—it was the Hall of Souls' headquarters and far too dangerous. That left the Earth and Human Halls as potential targets. Xiao Yan understood that the stronger the division, the more powerful the soul essence inside. Even among the Disha Halls he had already destroyed, the clusters were larger and more potent than others. That meant the Heaven Gang Halls would be even richer in soul essence.

Before launching his assault, Xiao Yan extended his soul sense to scout the strength of the two remaining targets.

The Human Hall was overseen by nine Hall Elders. The strongest of them, the Grand Elder, was a two-star Dou Saint. The Second Elder was at the Half-Saint level, while the others weren't even Half-Saints—so they were negligible.

The Earth Hall, however, was much more heavily fortified. It was managed by the Hall of Souls' Vice Leader himself—a three-star Dou Saint. The division also housed two one-star Dou Saints and nearly ten Half-Saints. This lineup was nearly on par with the once-mighty Ancient Void Dragon Clan after its internal split. Under normal circumstances, sending a one-star Dou Saint to attack this place would be pure suicide.

But Xiao Yan was no ordinary one-star Dou Saint.

Since he had dared to consider targeting the Earth Hall, it meant he wasn't intimidated by that Vice Leader. After some thought, he locked in his next destination.

'If you're going to fleece, then fleece the biggest sheep.'

He was determined to maximize his profit.

And the Earth Hall was about to pay the price.
